  1. I look at the Brewers as a model of the future. They lost Grienke mid season in 2012 and Marcum for a large portion of the season. During that time frame, they were way out of the playoff hunt. They went with their young call up prospects and made a true run for the wildcard. This year they made no attempt to bring in an established frree agent SP and made no attempt to bring back Marcum. They are going into this season with strong beliefs that their young SPers can take them into the post season. Maybe - Just maybe - Our June call up pitchers (Meyer / Mays / Gibson / Hendriks) can bring some immediate hope for the future to this city. If not, maybe we can make some late season trades to assure some other top AAA prospects (SP / Middle Infield) help for the future. Brewer Fans happy with the promise of the future despite being on the shoulders of prospects. TR can test the health of the inexpensive vets for the beginning of the season and always go to the young prospects to finish off the 2nd half of season if sh___ hits the fan. If you pay for too many years to FA pitchers you would never pull the plug on them for your young prospects. This way we have nothing to lose. Win Win or Lose Win (prospect experience)
  2. I agree that chemistry is not all that's needed to win. I do believe that when you don't have the better talent - Chemistry is a MUST We obviously do not have top end talent throughout this 2013 squad - Thus the need for chemistry at its highest level. This year we need chemistry - 2014 and beyond we will have both (Chemistry and Talent). And yes winning pitchers win!! No secret there. All of the top run supported pitchers are from excellent hitting teams as well (except Diamond). That is why we need to build a culture of GRINDERS this year and make the most of it with chemistry guys. Guys will fight for other fighters before they fight for the talented SOB who only cares about his numbers. Not that all the missed FA's were the ladder, but that Correia is the Grinder / Fighter that guys will fight for is where I'm coming from. Let's See?
  3. Speak for yourself -- I was born a winner like Correia - lol Winners compete and give their teams a chance to win everytime they touch the field. I will wait and see what he brings. I hate watching quality slow working pitchers who bring no energy to their teammates and end up losing because they get no run support. I know they are all professionals and are supposed to do their jobs, but everyone knows the games I'm speaking of. Or the guy that never gets run support and you wonder why? Because they are human beings and chemistry is the needed ingredient to make things right - not always money. Give me a flow to the game where teammates are engaged in the moment. That's how everyone flourishes in a winning program. Don't hold the ball until the shot clock goes down. Work well together, because it's not all about the numbers - It's about winning.
  4. Sounds about right to me - 12 Winning Decisions. Games in which he gave his team a chance to win. That's all any ball player wants while standing on the field. Give "us" a chance. Correia cashed in on 12 of those opportunities thanks to his run support and teammates. That's definitely how winning is done. I'm sure he has no problem acknowledging that, like any great teammate. He will give the Twins a chance to win 12 games this year as well and his teammates will be proud to take the field with him. That's the chemistry TR is talking about. Scott Diamond had the 2nd most run support of any pitcher in MLB last year. Despite his mentioned flaws - teammates played hard for him. Thus he was a winner. I want winners that bring out the best in each other.
  5. Look at the Rangers rotation and Offense and Look at the Angels rotation and offense in 2012 - The A's won the West. Not in your wildest dreams would you have thought that. But it happened. That's why you play the games. Things on paper sometimes get shreaded. We probably won't win the Central, but we may surprise alot of folks with some quality wins. Games are about match ups and your #1 might frequently meet an oppoisng teams #4 or #5. Let's pray that happens. Match ups
  6. 12 Wins - Winning Record (12-11) Bottom Line - Technically he is a winner. If the Twins were one game over .500 - You would say the same - that they were winners?
  7. Twins management must get what I'm saying. They signed him. The rest will be wait and see for results - regardless to all of the blogging GM hats we wear. Most of the bloggers believe that all their personal moves would result in grade A moves. And if they don't believe that - then give management a chance. I believe in TR
  8. 12 Wins - Obviously 12 of those 28 starts went 5+ innings andhe earned those 12 Wins!!! Again - 12 is double the wins of all Twins pitchers not named Diamond
  9. I agree with gmarais66 - I don't believe in stats as a tell all - unless it's about Wins. Correia won 12 games last year Twins Fans. That's is twice as much as any player on the entire Twins team not named Diamond. Twice as much. Why doesn't anyone acknowledge that he did some good in 2012. And he played for the Pirates, who had 1 superstar hitter. We at least had 2. 12 Wins!! Why can't he duplicate that with the Twins - even in the AL. By the way the last 2 WS champions were from the NL. I get tired of hearing how the switch to the AL for a pitcher is such a major adjustment. An adjustment - yes. A major adjustment - no. Pitchers have to pitch, like hitters have to hit. A game of adjustments. Let's see what Correia can do and support the man in his first few outings without reservations and I told you so's.
  10. Everybody is excited about Toronto's new team - Which is in many ways similar to Miami's stars last year (Johnson / Buerle / Reyes). I'm not buying the hype and glad we didn't overpay for guys like that. What you have is a potentially stable staff (no stars) and some up and coming prospects earning a chance by June in MN. That should allow 2013 to serve as a season for fans to see their young prospects emerge. I'm sure people in Oakland are excited about Parker and Cespedes even though they were unproven rookies in 2012. All you can ever do is hope and pray that your returning players have equal to better seasons than their best ever seasons of the past. Would you want to have Cliff Lee on your team now at his current contract? Do you get 2011 or 2012 Cliff Lee? Is there a secret to making the right choice?
  11. Watch for Josh Burris to be a sleeper this year in Low A and Matt Tomshaw to be a sleeper in Ft. Myer & New Brittan. MY SLEEPERS Nice list though
  12. In reference to "what if" Sano doesn't pan out? What if all the pitchers develop Tommy John injury? That should be another thread. Arcia - Sano - Rosario - Hicks - Meyer - Mays - Berrios - All have high chance of being quality starters at MLB level. Some have star potential. If 3 of 7 become a future All Star - Lookout
  13. I agree Shane. Let them both stay at 3B. I was saying that they need not draft another 3B with 1st pick as was suggested (what if?). I like Harrison at 3B. Not saying he is gold glover in the making, but he deserves chance to get better at such a young age.
  14. 2016 - 1B - Parmelee (25 HRs) 2B - Rosario (Doubles machine) SS - Costly Free Agent Gem 3B - Sano (30+ HRs) LF - Arcia (one of MLB Elite Hitters by 2016) CF - Hicks (Jack of all trades / Great OBP) RF - Roberts (.400 OBP) and / or Walker (20+ HRs) DH - Mauer C - Hermann or guy from Kepler trade Buxton to CF in 2017 (@ 22 yrs old) & Hicks to RF Kepler traded for MLB ready SP Pitcher or Catcher in 2016 as he is by now a Top 50 MLB Prospect Pitchers from 2012 draft and higher pitching prospects ready by 2016 (Atlanta Braves Pitching Prospect Ready = always ready when called on)
  15. Manea LHP from Indiana State with 4th pick- We need a flame throwing Lefty to go with influx of other RHP flame throwers in orgamization. He might not be ready by 2015 though. But upside..................
  16. I agree with using 1st round picks on some Shortstops, but not third basemen. Shortstops can usually play anywhere on the field. Most 3rd basemen either go to 1st or hopefully a corner outfield spot. Most 3rd Basemen are somewhat slow. I agree with draftig third basemen - just not giving them all $1million plus for a limited skill set position. And yes they will draft who they want. I'm just stating my opinion as to what they will do. In other words guessing like everyone else
  17. I agreee to a point. The problem is you end up with keeping players at certain levels because you don't have spots to move them up the ladder at the pace they might need. There will be the same problem with outfielders in 2 years. They will be traded or get cheated in their ABs. There has to be a happy medium in drafting best player on the board every year. Sometimes you need to draft a need. Does that mean that the Twins will take High School OF stud from MN in this years draft with 4th pick?
  18. Oh yeah - Some high energy Fans would help as well.
  19. Who knows what the Young pitchers on my above list will do in 2015? What the Twins need is High Energy players who feed off each other. Pitchers and Position Players alike - High Energy thru the lows and highs leads to Championship Caliber Play
  20. Winning Teams are about chemistry and not always Saber stats: 1991 World Series Champs Harper - Puckett - Mack - are only .300+ hitters Not 1 player had 100 RBIs Only 2 players had 20+ HRs What they had was great OBP% and Tons of Doubles Pitching Staff Comparisons Pitcher - SO/9 - H/9 Morris - 5.9 - 8.2 Tapani - 5.0 - 8.3 Erickson - 4.8 - 8.3 WORLD SERIES TEAM Anderson - 3.4 - 9.9 West - 6.6 - 8.3 Pitcher - SO/9 - H/9 Diamond - 4.7 - 9.6 Worley - 7.2 - 10.4 Pelfrey - 5.9 - 11.0 LAST YEARS PITCHING STATS Harden - 9.9 - 9.5 Correa - 4.7 - 9.3 NOT KNOWING NAMES WHO WOULD YOU HAVE WANTED? Chemistry amongst young players can go a long way.
  21. Then I would say we wasted alot of money on high draft picks / FA's who play 3B in the last 4 years. Not going to happen in my opinion. Sano is 3B for the future. Harrison is back up plan. If they do daft a 3B - then Harrison is trade bait. Power hitting 1B are easier to find because you can move guys to 1B as their careers wind down. Harrison 3B Goodrum (could move to 3B / I keep hearing) Sano 3B Not to mention we still have Plouffe That's alot of money spent on these guys to project at same position
  22. C Mauer (Joe doing Joe) / Hermann (defense) DH Vargas (power) / Mauer 1B Parmelee (power) 2B Rosario (hitter) SS Santana / or Cuban FA (Aledmys Diaz) - (defense) 3B Sano (power) LF Arcia (hitter) CF Buxton (5 tooler) RF Roberts (OBP) / Walker (power) (Kepler promoted in 2016) (Hicks and Morneau traded for more top pitching prospects) Starting Pitchers Bullpen Meyer (1) Gipson (2) Mays (3) Worley (4) Diamond (5) Berrios promoted by 2016 I like it
  23. I've said this counless times - Many of the top defenders in the MLB struggled in their early minor league careers. Harrison has the potential to be decent at 3B. Let the kid work on his understanding of the position (like Sano) and move thru the system patiently. He is a young kid. I see Ex. Spr. Training to ETown and then maybe CR for him more so then CR and Ft Myer.
  24. I'm just saying he was 3 for 3 - Those kids at ETown seemed to get along so well together - Maybe he / "They" can do it again. As you said they were very good last year.
  25. I like commenting on my ETown boys. This kid hit .300+ as a Freshmen in college and .400+ as a sophomore in college. He cut his K's down during his final year in college significantly. He led all NCAA college hitters in BA for Friday night games (usually the night you compete against other teams Ace pitcher) during his final season. My point is this kid seems to make corrections in his game every season at various levels. He always states in interviews what his preseason goals are, and he seems to make those stated adjustments throughout the season. Either way this kid is a winnerand I love how he works on his game. Baseball America | Blog | Baseball America Draft Blog | Stats For Top 200 College Hitters On Friday Nights This Walker kid has won a championship in each of his last 3 summer leagues - Great Lakes Summer Collegieate League (teams 1st ever) / Cape Cod League (teams 1st in 20+ years) / Appy League (key 9th inning HR). I agree about K's but the kid is a run producer at every level and that is the bottom line. Oh yeah - and his teams generally win
