  1. The Twins have 5 Hitters in the MLB Top 100 Prospects - The instructors may mess up 1 guys swing along the way, but I would say that the overall results are positive. I'm sure Span put a mixture to his swing as well (his and Twins way). Worked out either way for him.
  2. Yep - BA Missed that one. I assumed he was on there. Can't leave off a guy who throws 100 and makes it work for him and the team.
  3. A friend of mine has the 2013 Baseball America Prospect Handbook and they listed the following Top 30 +1: 1 Sano 3B 2 Buxton OF 3 Arcia OF 4 Meyer RHP 5 Gibson RHP (Top 2013 Rookie) 6 HIcks OF 7 Berrios RHP 8 Rosario 2B/OF 9 May RHP 10 Kepler OF 11 Santana SS/2B 12 Bard RHP 13 Melotakis LHP 14 Polanco 2B/SS 15 Chargois RHP 16 Michael 2B/SS 17 Harrison 3B 18 Herrmann C/OF 19 Benson OF 20 Hermsen RHP 21 Mata RHP (Breakout Prospect) 22 Boer RHP 23 Ty Jones RHP 24 Jorge RHP 25 Wheeler LHP 26 Goodrum SS 27 Salcedo RHP 28 Tonkin RHP 29 Vargas 1B 30 Summers RHP 31 Walker OF (+1 Bonus Pick & Sleeper) Slightly Different than MLB's list & Seth's list - I can't wait to see whose list turns out most accurate at years end.............. Each has a different philosophy within their choices.
  4. I like how you think Nelson. .500 is a realistic possibility if the breaks fall our way. I'm a believer until all hope is gone.
  5. I'd like to see a thread that rated the minor league coaches per their specialty (Pitching / Hitting). AAA on down
  6. Thanks - I forgot about Thomas and Boggs. Are they both considered fill ins until they call up Hicks and Benson or other prospects. Do they have a legit chance of staying within system?
  7. Not all Cubans lie about their age. But I guess if I could sign a David Ortiz or Miguel Tejada for a $10,000 signing bonus because I could (meaning we hold all the cards) - I would think your way too, about latin players. Make blanket statements like the one you made above....................
  8. Who will play where in Spring Training & Who will play where on various Opening Days? AAA = Bigley & Ramirez only (waiting for Hicks / Arcia and/or Benson) AA = ???????? A+ = Ray; Morales; Goncaives; Rams; Ortiz; A = Leachman; Roberts; JD Williams; R = Kepler; Buxton; Walker; Jimenez; Finally - as they possibly call up Hicks; Arcia; and/or Benson in May/June - what will be the trickle up effect for lower level OFers in your opinion?
  9. Seth - As the AA roster (New Britain) has no outfielders listed on its website roster - do you think that some of the lower level outfielders in Rookie - A and High A have a chance of moving up an extra level if impressive in Spring Training. How do they plan to fill some of the empty roster spots at these various levels? Could Nate Roberts go to AA or Kepler or Walker (older) go to High A or even a kid like Jonathan Murphy move from GCL up to A or High A because he is an older prospect ? (until draft and/or incoming OF prospects shape things out) What happens to those vacant roster spots within the next 2 months?
  10. He has the ability and frame to play 1st, but he is too good of an outfielder to move any time soon. Besides the Twins have two very solid prospects in Vargas and DJ Hicks at 1B / DH. The Twins will end up trading some of their OF prospects in the next year or 2. They have 6 or 7 potentially solid regulars and some solid 4th OF prospects: A. Hicks - B. Buxton - A. Oswaldo - E. Rosario (?) - J. Benson - M. Kepler - A Walker - N. Roberts - R. Jimenez - JD Williams - A Morales - D. Ortiz - J. Pineda. All that said - Kepler will stay and man an OF spot (LF)
  11. Hey - he was only 20 in Appy and will be 21 for all of A ball. He was a young college kid. If he can keep up his production from league to league - He will be fine. As a 20 year old he was Top 5 in HRs / RBIs / Runs / TBs / SLG % (7th) / & Triples. He does need to drop K %, but I will take other category rankings every year. Between Sano; Vargas; DJ Hicks & Walker - The Twins are getting big and powerful quickly.
  12. What are the opening day lineups for A - A+ - AA & AAA? Curious as to what knowlwdgeable followers might think? Just position players. CEDAR RAPIDS FT. MYERS NEW BRITIAN ROCHESTER
  13. I keep envisioning Randy Quaid and his buddies banging on thier drums in the outfeild bleachers. They are verbally bashing the Indians in the beginning of "Major League I". I hope all the fans don't start the season with the same outlook. Every team will have the same record come April 1st - Just ask those movie "Indians" or the 2012 Oakland A's. The question is - Was Randy Quaid a true fan or always looking for something to go wrong throughout the season? How many of you guys rival Randy Quaid?
  14. Matt Thomshaw will become the left handed version of Shaun Marcum. He will be older when he finally gets a chance, but it doesn't mean he won't be as effective. He should make it to AA this year by seasons end and will get an invite to camp next spring. We may be tired of pitching to contact, but some guys make it an art form!
  15. I left off the offensive stats on purpose -- You are absolutely right - They were an awesome team offensively. I just want to give this staff a chance to fail. There are some respectable pitchers on this staff if they can remain healthy. I'm in the minority when I say I am anxious in a positive way. I have a feeling that the Twins will be a much better team than 2012 and that these pitchers will surprise. The problem I see when they do surprise is - "Where would we have been had we brought in 2 better pitchers this off season" - Will TR be applauded or disgusted regardless?
  16. Isn't the only time that a #1 is guarenteed to face another #1 during opening day? If I were the Twins: I would put one of my random #5's to face other teams #1's and put my 4's against their 2's and my 3's against thier 3's and my 2's against their 4's and my #1 against the opposing teams #5. At that rate, if all the cards fell right - The Twins would be close to .500. They have enough random arms to play the season that way. This way some of those pitchers coming off injury could rest from time to time and last longer through the season. Hand pick your starts based on match ups. Unconventional but sounds like a plan Figuritively conceed some games to assure better performances in other games. Outside the box. Crazy but yeeaahhhhh
  17. It is a different world than when A-Rod came into the league. There is so much more of an emphasis on health and conditioning. Players are staying in better shape than they would have in the past. Players are going to pre-spring training workout facilities to get in shape for Spring Training. Guys in the past didn't put as much work into conditioning as they do now. That in itself should and could keep a guy like Sano at 3rd base longer throughout his career.
  18. I guess I look at true athletes like Matt Kemp who lost 20 pounds while in his 20's and had an all star caliber 2011 & 2012 season. That's how I look at the human body working. It's about the "Want to". If you want to be special you will do the necessary work to stay in peak condition and shape.
  19. If he takes his conditioning more seriously as he moves through the system - I would rather compare him to A-Rod defensively and Cabrera offensively with his current size. Strong arm with decent agility. He is athletic enough - just needs the maturity and discipline to stay there. Great players tend to stay in shape for the peak of their careers. Hopefully he aspires to be great.
  20. I get it - I think his (TR) way of building this franchise back to playoff bound is right on point. I want to be good for the next decade and I think his way is the way to do it. Through the draft and trades. When these prospects find their stride (thru process of elimination) - surround those players with key FA acquisitions. Overpay then. Not now. So I'll agree to disagree. Signing off on this thread Oh - He will pay more then, because I believe he will, despite no track record for the last 28 years. I just believe and have a gut.
  21. We did make the playoffs in 2009 and 2010 didn't we? You could be the Cubs - Pirates - KC - etc. - We made the playoffs just 2 seasons ago. - WOW
  22. My point is you've been saying the same thing for 28 years and they don't hear you. Make them hear you a different way (cancelled season tickets like you said). As to my example about cleaning your room - Are you the parent who ends up grounding your kid because he didn't listen or the one who will say the same thing "day in and day out" until he "hopefully" responds? And if you ground him - at least see if that method works. Don't stand over him while he cleans making your unheard point - heard. It seldom works. Hit him where it hurts and move on.
  23. All great GMs think outside the box. Give TR a chance to fail his way or succeed. He already made a change in his draft philosophy and is listening to Saber guys in the FO. Give him a couple a years to build something. See if you still suck by mid season in 2014 at least.
