  1. See my post above -- deferred money, including bonuses, is always the responsibility of the team he earned it for -- in this case, Arizona. Houston only has to worry about the 2019-2021 salaries and any deferred payments of those specific salaries, plus the small trade bonus, less the money Arizona is including in the trade.
  2. Any deferred money he has already earned, including any deferred signing bonus, is still the responsibility of the team he earned it for, meaning Arizona. He will only earn $76.5 mil over the next 2.5 years, including the trade bonus. And of course, Houston is only responsible for ~$53 mil of that now, per their trade agreement with Arizona.
  3. More like 1 month left to audition, unless he comes up to Minnesota in September, which seems like a longshot given his AA numbers. Kind of a crowd too for pitchers, no? We're still auditioning/rotating quite a few ahead of Diplan...
  4. Hopefully the front office figures out faster than that -- we're on the clock here, people!
  5. Diplan was DFA'd, but teams won't be able to trade for those guys after the deadline. Only waiver claims at that point.
  6. I guess Diplan can take Lewin Diaz's place in this offseason's 40-man crunch.
  7. And I just checked, his BB/9 has actually increased with his move to the pen this year (6.2).
  8. Diplan is in AA, has never appeared in AAA let alone MLB, and was DFA'd by the Brewers 2 days ago to make 40-man roster space for Jordan Lyles. Edit: not to imply he's bad or anything, I don't really know -- just clarifying for anyone reading that he is not a major league addition here.
  9. Pomeranz has actually been all right this year, outside of a disastrous May.
  10. That's fair, although anticipating high prices is also part of a GM's job. That should have been a factor when selling Pressly a year ago, and making Blake Parker our only offseason pen acquisition.
  11. Better call in to work after 3 PM, to see if you've been traded!
  12. Sure. There is no limit on how soon a player can be traded again, once they are on your official roster. Plenty of guys have been traded the same or very next day. (Some 3-team trades take this form.) There is waiting period for trading new free agents signed in the offseason -- May 15th, I think?
  13. To be fair, I think it was free pitchfork night at Target Field recently. Next homestand features Falvey and Levine Effigy Night. Edit: to be *even more* fair than twinsnorth49....
  14. It seems really, really unlikely in this case. Lavelle's report had zero insight into the Mets deal with Toronto, which a Mets source could have presumably improved. And why would the Mets be feeding this info to Lavelle but no one else? And perhaps most importantly, it was a very unfavorable report for the Mets, basically saying that talks were over and implying they would not resume. How does that help the Mets get a better offer from someone else?
  15. Yeah, her reaction might depend on the quality of the lawn and/or child.
  16. It's been discussed here, but any team that could use Schoop for the next 2 months probably also wants to keep their worthwhile relievers. (Or get a better future return, if they are selling now.)
  17. Better mow the lawn before 3 PM today -- there's no August lawn mowing period this year anymore.
  18. But have you tried using the excuse, "Even Yoda did not prevent the rise of the Sith"?
  19. Interestingly, I was thinking of a similar analogy after the Syndergaard/Buxton report! In my analogy, "I didn't have time to mow the lawn" corresponds to Lavelle's report that "the Mets asked for Buxton to be part of any deal". Here are those same two phrases again, with added context: "I didn't have time to mow the lawn, after I spent the afternoon cleaning old decorative beer signs"*** "the Mets asked for Buxton to be part of any deal, after the Twins informed them Lewis and Kirilloff were unavailable" *** yes, I actually did this just the other day. Wife didn't mind, although the lawn still hasn't been mowed.
  20. It was almost certainly a Twins source. It was a local reporter (Lavelle), and the same article from Lavelle contained info about the Twins negotiations with Toronto. National sources had the Mets ask as both Lewis and Kirilloff earlier.
  21. I think other teams have done similarly. I'll bet the Yankees did it after the Johan trade in 2008 -- "the Twins demanded Cano to be part of any deal" (when Cano was already an MLB all-star) when it's possible the Twins only asked for Cano after the Yankees said "no dice" on Hughes, Melky Cabrera, etc. (Seems like Lester or Ellsbury were indeed on the table from Boston, though. Ah, memories!)
  22. Yep, no way I would fire them. But maybe I'd dangle them in trade? They might be at peak value. See if we can get a couple 40 FV GM prospects for the future.
