  1. Also, the Ranger just signed Odor to a long-term extension a few months ago, I am pretty sure they are not looking to make a major 2B acquisition quite yet.
  2. While Forsythe has scuffled for the Dodgers, he hasn't been their primary 2B this year anyway. Dodgers 2B in total have a 123 wRC+, 2nd in the NL and 5th in MLB, versus 91 for the Twins. Utley has a 96 versus Dozier's 97. Chris Taylor has the second most starts at the position and a 148 wRC+. Enrique Hernandez now has a 100 wRC+ over 3 seasons with the Dodgers in a utility role too. Dozier has been solid so far but has shown his HR binge was exactly that and not a new norm, I am not even sure if he is a great target anymore. If the Dodgers want offense, they might be better off acquiring an outfielder or even a first baseman. Although they have a team non-pitcher 107 wRC+, tied for 3rd in the NL / 5th in MLB, so they may not yet think offense is a major area of need.
  3. It would be hard to "know they are going 9" if they are somehow still in play at 1. If that's the case, there might still be a decent chance the player goes before 9, and Boras might still be working to achieve that, and leveraging the #1 interest to increase his bonus wherever he is selected. Can be pretty complicated!
  4. Meyer yesterday in his second start vs. the Tigers in 2017: 6 IP, 3 H, 1 run (unearned), 4 BB, 9 K, 1 HBP. I think that counts as "fairly effective." MLB career high 101 pitches (59 strikes). Highest pitch total anywhere since May 2015 at Rochester. Still doesn't know how to win, though, as he took the loss while the Angels offense was shut out.
  5. Heston was previously claimed off waivers by the Dodgers on May 26. Assuming waiver priority was granted based on the standings through May 25th, 24 MLB teams passed on him at that time, including the Twins: http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/?year=2017&month=05&day=25
  6. Actually Heston still has an option remaining. In fact, he has been optioned this year by both Seattle and the Dodgers already.
  7. Guessing Rosario is optioned for the 25-man spot.
  8. Should be a father's day promotion coming up too.
  9. I doubt Wheeler has any complaints. He got a few extra days of MLB service time and salary while he was in DFA limbo -- that was $3000 per day, plus inching toward pension benefits. That turned out much better than simply getting optioned. And he is still on a 40-man roster getting more minor league pay than before, even if he is playing his home games in Oklahoma City rather than Rochester. (Plus he went to an organization that actually wanted him on some level and didn't simply have persistent rights to renew his minor league contract.)
  10. I didn't anticipate a trade (I don't think anyone did), but my point stands that the DFA did not represent "walking papers" regardless of where he ended up. And actually Wheeler was optioned, so he is in Oklahoma City, not California. Had I said AAA instead of Rochester I would have still been correct!
  11. But Jose De Leon does!
  12. Actually Wilk was outrighted, not optioned. So the 10 day rule shouldn't apply. Not that it would make much sense to add him back so quickly.
  13. DFA is not "walking papers." It is just a common procedural move to send him back to Rochester.
  14. Why not? That group was largely injured and/or ineffective prior to 2017. Chargois' 2016 was basically the only full effective pro season from the bunch. Granted Jay had some extenuating circumstances in 2016, but Burdi and Reed in particular had pretty weak pro resumes entering 2017. Not that they couldn't succeed, of course, but there's no excuse for counting on that group very much for immediate contributions.
  15. If one spot is Wimmers, and no 60-day DL moves are made, the other spot would likely have to come from the following group: Jorge Melotakis Romero Rosario (Randy) Garver Murphy Velma Granite Palka
  16. Good point. His appearance Monday wasn't even a start. It was his first pro appearance from the bullpen outside of rookie league ball (where starter/reliever designations are largely meaningless anyway). Another reason not to read too much into his performance in this particular game.
  17. Neshek might come fairly cheap at the deadline, but I don't think he would come that cheaply right now. He is on a very modest contract and performing well. They can always deal him for marginal return at the deadline, so what incentive would they have to move him for marginal return right now? They are not eating any of his salary right now, that is sure.
  18. Wimmer is thoroughly uninspiring. Although if he takes the one open 40-man spot, it would mean another current 40-man guy would have to come up (assuming no 60-day DL moves). Can't be Vargas or Rucinski yet, so that would suggest a AA reliever? Unless they called up a third catcher...
  19. Thanks for the tip! From their list, Shields and Norris were dealt last June, with pretty dreadful results for their new clubs. In 2015, Bronson Arroyo was traded in June, but he was hurt so it was pretty much a cash component. I'm guessing those are the kinds of guys on offer right now too.
  20. Should be interesting to follow De Leon going forward, I'll try to keep an eye on him and update this thread. I remember Alex Wood was rumored at the end to be available too (Wood to Seattle for prospects to include with De Leon?), he was off to a fantastic start but has landed on the DL. Willie Calhoun is still looking like a decent prospect too, his power and patience playing up in his AAA debut. And holy cow, were they right to make Bellinger untouchable!
  21. He had one injury which he already returned from (which suggests it may not be severe or long-term), and he's pitched in 2 games under unusual circumstances since being activated. Any data is new data, but it's a minimal amount. If he had been healthy these past 2 months and repeating his 2016 AAA/MLB performances so far, I wouldn't say it made much of a dent in your position either (which I actually more or less agree with, I wasn't high enough on De Leon to pull the trigger on a straight-up swap).
  22. Starters often split spring training games, meaning the "games started" stat isn't particularly meaningful. Also Duffey had at least one minor league start during spring training to get extra work in, and others did so too. Basically, he was a starter all of spring training -- there was no talk of converting him to relief.
  23. You are posting pretty much the same opinion now as you did then, with little in the way of new data. That's pretty much the definition of reaffirmation, right?
  24. It's definitely interesting to follow. Forsythe was injured for a month already which is a complicating factor in evaluating anything at this early stage. He was doing all right at the plate before the injury, albeit with a high K rate and a super-high BABIP... and now he's doing poorly since his return, with a dropping K rate but also a super-low BABIP (.000 for his last 5 games). Only 76 PA overall so far, though. Forsythe is actually covering 3B right now with Turner out, so that might be a "benefit" that Dozier wouldn't have provided. Chris Taylor has gotten the 2nd most starts at 2B after Utley and he's had a pretty impressive season so far (154 wRC+), so it's a complicated mix.
