  1. Polanco was already using those options -- he had to be added to the 40-man in November 2013 to protect him from the Rule 5 draft, thus he had to be optioned to be sent to the minors out of spring training in 2014 and 2015 (and 2016) anyway. Calling him up for a few days in those seasons did nothing to affect his option or contract status (other than give him a couple days service time). Like Randy Rosario this year -- he was already on the 40-man, so the option was already used this spring. So calling him up and sending him back down later this season was a "free move" as far as options are concerned.
  2. Man, the AAA starter situation is pretty dire. Would be nice to see a quality AA guy get moved up to AAA so we'd at least have a chance at avoiding this fate next time.
  3. Silver lining: since Wilk isn't on the 40-man, it will likely require DFAing Heston or Wimmers to make room for him, and we could turn around and DFA Wilk again shortly thereafter. So it should effectively force them to free up a 40 man spot. Although I guess the most likely use of said spot is adding a reliever and cutting Breslow or Belisle, which would already involve opening a 40 man spot.
  4. Romero is already on the 40-man (was required for Rule 5 protection last winter). Same for Polanco when he first came up to Minnesota.
  5. Shouldn't we be looking to promote from AA to AAA though? Curtiss has a 12.8 K/9, Bard a 14.8 K/9, Melo 10.7 and left-handed, plus Van Steensel and Rosario... But the only pitchers we've promoted from AA to AAA are Turley and Eades (both of whom they shuffled back to AA later). And since the season began, we've added Chapman, Heston, Melville, Mickolio, and Wilk to Rochester's current staff from outside the organization. And the only AAA guys that have departed the org have been Wheeler and Tepesch.
  6. Doesn't seem like Enlow was a tough sign, sounds like he is quite willing to sign for roughly 35/37 pick money. So I'm not sure the round or extra night really bought them anything in regards to him. I think the plan must have had Leach in it, even at the risk of losing Enlow. (And perhaps they did lose Carlson over it.)
  7. Haley just played "long toss" yesterday, and has a bullpen scheduled for Friday. After that I imagine they will do a rehab assignment (and not rush him back from it, like last time): http://www.cbssports.com/fantasy/baseball/news/twins-justin-haley-gets-through-long-toss-tuesday/
  8. I don't know. Seems like the teams picking 38-56 or so wouldn't have had much trouble meeting that price for Enlow. And Enlow takes some risk staying on the board until 76 -- what if the Padres grab him at 69 and offer $1.6 mil? Now he either has to take a couple hundred thousand less to sign, or pass up signing altogether, just to help the Twins and get another $100-200k?
  9. The Twins had the #35 and #37 picks. They could have used one of them on Enlow, and signed him for basically slot. They could have used the other on Rooker. Might have cost them Leach if they didn't think he'd last till 76 (or Rooker, if they preferred Leach at 37 instead), but my point was that signing Enlow (which appears to be their biggest over-slot move so far) didn't necessarily require any savings at 1-1, given the picks they had. I wonder if they could have instead gotten Enlow at slot at 35, plus Carlson at 37 over-slot with the Lewis savings? Will be interesting to follow.
  10. San Diego is tied for the second-worst record in MLB, they probably aren't putting extra value on MLB readiness. Tampa may have thought McKay's MLB readiness was not appreciably worse than Wright's (and they have enough controlled MLB pitching currently that readiness is probably not their chief concern either). Hard to say at this point, should be interesting to watch.
  11. Rhett Bollinger is reporting Enlow's bonus will be about $2 mil, which is basically equal to our #35 slot. So it seems we could have been able to draft him and pay full slot at #1, had we wanted to do so: http://m.twins.mlb.com/news/article/236268358/twins-expect-to-sign-blayne-enlow/?topicId=27118388 Not that it means the draft was bad or anything like that, but at this point it looks like the drafting of Lewis and the drafting of Enlow aren't too closely related. (Leach might be the guy we would have missed had we drafted Enlow at 35, or a later over-slot guy.) We'll see how all the bonuses shake out soon, of course.
  12. I hope they're not judging the whole group this year on a guy who failed his audition last year (Wimmers) and probably the least experienced guy in the group (Rosario).
  13. Save it for the TD cabinet meeting!
  14. Wimmers was pretty bad, in low leverage, with no future. Obviously the hope is that Pressly won't be as bad as before. Might as well find out before the July trade market heats up.
  15. For Midwesterners looking to avoid blackouts, Sling is a very interesting option now. "Sling Blue" at $25 per month gets you a streaming package that includes your local Fox Sports, plus FS1 and TBS for some national games including playoffs. No contract, cancel anytime, so the cost per season is only $150. There are usually promos to get a free streaming device too like a Roku or a Fire TV Stick.
  16. I missed it yesterday, but apparently Heston was sent down for Jorge Polanco's return too? Pitching staff down to 12. Interesting there isn't really a "long guy" right now, hopefully Good Kyle shows up tonight and renders that a non-issue.
  17. Like, he wears too much eyeblack? Or too little?
  18. I don't have a deck, but I have an ugly lawn with a bunch of old plastic chairs strewn about. One of them was held together by tape (and not even good quality duct tape, more like cheap clear tape), and it was starting to fall apart even before the recent storms kicked it around the yard. I think I'm going to call that chair "Belisle." Another has been chewed a lot by squirrels, maybe that one should be called "Breslow." I do have some intact chairs in the garage, but those are only "for company."

  20. Dozier was called up almost 3 years after his draft (June 2009 to May 2012).
  21. Stick a fork in bachelorhood! Or, if you don't have any clean forks, a spoon or spork will suffice.
  22. What if you pass on those too? Are we building hotels on Baltic and Mediterranean?
  23. I don't think stadium/market matters to draftees, especially now with slots and hard caps. And I don't know that the post-Friedman front office rep is bad for Tampa. Silverman, Neander, and Bloom all served right under Friedman. Obviously different for MLB free agents.
  24. Why? They have been a pretty good organization for a while now. I doubt David Price regrets being drafted by them. They develop well, promote timely...
