  1. I have said this before...truly believe the days of 5+ year deals being handed out like candy to players in his age range at a parade are over. Not saying he won't get someone to bite but I bet that is the type of deal he is looking for. Max the Twins will offer IMO if they do offer is 3 years. I anticipate a great year from Doz. Here is to hoping it happens. He will be paid well somewhere for certain. Win Twins!
  2. Ditto. I didn't see that either. Perhaps it was done so Berrios can start game 1 in Puerto Rico?
  3. Congrats big shooter. Looking forward to a great season of Twins baseball.
  4. The 'banned' substance I believe was 'stanozolol'. If that is incorrect I am certain someone will correct me. Just don't understand why you would take something that is not given to you by someone not affiliated with the organization that employs you. You just cant be 110% certain it is what the bottle says it is. Not the best way to start the '18 season. With that disappointment yields opportunity for someone to step up in his absence. Hopefully that is what occurs. WIN TWINS!
  5. Really like the signing. Lynn will be pitching for his next contract. We should get his 'A' game this season. To echo others and the obvious it is a super low risk venture. He is a solid MLB pitcher IMO. Certainly helps solidify this rotation. You really cant look at any starter and say 'oh goodie goodie' look who we get to tee off on today. With the payroll flexibility down the road in '19 and our farm system looking stout this organization is looking well prepared in the current/future. WIN TWINS! Santana (when he returns) Berrios or flip he and Odo Odo Lynn Gibby That is a rotation a guy can look forward to watching pitch. Not a layup there if we can get back half of '17 Gibson performance not 1st half. Gotta give huge kudos to the FO boys! They have done a fantastic job this offseason.
  6. Couldn't agree more. I think the closer it gets to paychecks being deposited into accounts etc. the remaining pitchers will have to face the facts that teams are no longer going to hand out 5+ year deals like they are candy at a parade. It will be interesting to see what materializes the next 2 weeks or so.
  7. Wouldn't it be a HUGE addition to the staff if Mejia could pitch to his full potential. We see it at times but not enough of a sample size to trust him. Would be great to have that trusted lefty in the rotation.
  8. Refreshing to hear a player realize how fortunate they are to be in the position of playing ball for a living. All MLB players are extremely talented for certain. However my thought is some of them lose sight of the privilege they have and earned by their talents in being paid to play baseball. Gibby seems to have that figured out. As far as how much they are paid you cant fault any of them for trying to maximize what their employer is willing to pay them. It seems like insane amounts of money at times but that is how the game is played. Here is to Gibson having a full year in '18 of second half '17 Gibson. WIN TWINS.
  9. I didn't see anything that he said that implied 'he does not want to be a Twin any longer'. He is looking forward to becoming a FA and having teams bid for his services. What is wrong with that? How do we know that a draft pick would hold more value than Dozier? We have the same opportunity as every other club in that sense if he does become a FA. My thought is he wants a 5 or 6 year deal. If the Twins seriously want him back my gut tells me the max they would offer would be 4 preferably 3 in their eyes. I don't see him taking 3. If the $$$/yr. makes him feel good I could see him taking 4 and staying with the organization that gave him a shot. Then you need to ask yourself do we forward think to the trade deadline? If he is raking do see what teams would be willing to offer in a trade? Or if we are in position in the standings do we say lets go for it WS or bust and look at adding pieces at that point in time to make the club even better? Lots of decisions/scenarios to go through for certain. WIN TWINS.
  10. Ditto on Sano...if he is suspended lets hope it is the wake up call he needs in his career.
  11. I agree he is the starting 3B. No argument what so ever.
  12. Let's hope this is some added motivation for Sano in that aspect. My guess is he will also spell Mauer some on days where a lefty is going and Mauer gets a day off here and there on those days. You roll with Sano/Morrison back to back assuming Sano hits 3rd that pop written all over it. Very nice pickup for the club. If he performs in a similar fashion to last year that is a HUGE bat in the lineup. To echo many fans thoughts it is probably the Vargas/Grossman show now. My gut feeling is Molitor prefers Grossman. His career OBP is .351 vs. .311 to Vargas. In the past I don't feel as if Molitor trusted Vargas. Personally I love Vargas's pop. The 64K question is can he figure it out long term. I think you know what you are getting in Grossman. He isn't going to wow you in any sense but he is a solid bench player who would know his role on this ball club. My worry is we release Vargas someone else claims him and he turns into Ortiz 2.0. On the flip side this would be his 5th year in the big leagues so maybe time has passed in the sense for him truly figuring it out. Questions FO will have to think about for certain. WIN TWINS!
  13. I say that with a great Kirby quote on my posts.
  14. Kirby was never WS MVP but I get the genesis of your points. Joe has been a very good player over the course of his career. Did he have some not so spectacular years by the high bar he set yes he did. Like Morneau it would have been nice to see how he would have played without suffering the concussion(s) throughout his career.
  15. Random thought...very surprised MLB scheduled a 12 game home stand in early April...not the best place for a 12 gamer. Good piece thanks for the time in putting it together.
  16. Certainly some classics in there. The old 'Get to Know Em' and 'Gotta See Em' ones circa '02/'03 years were really good. Twins marketing team represented themselves very well.
  17. Holy Hannah I had no idea. Certainly speaks to why drafts are like throwing darts blindly at times. He sure did look good in a Twins uniform in his late years. What a fantastic career and by all accounts a great man. Never heard a bad word about him in the media or from his peers.
  18. Fantastic stuff Tom thank you. I really enjoy hearing the younger kids show the respect towards the veterans. That tells me they are listening/watching how they approach their job. You don't last double digit years in MLB by mistake! I see 2018 as another year of significant progress in the younger players. Can't wait till it gets going.
  19. He was worth the price of admission by himself on days he pitched.
  20. He turns 32 during the season I believe. The max I would offer in duration would be 5 years. I would be willing to go more per year on a 4 year deal. I doubt he would sign a 4 year deal. No way I would go 6 years. Have a good one.
