  1. How about Canning and Carlson at 35 and 37?
  2. How about Carlson and Rooker at 35 and 37?
  3. Pretty amazing that, here we are, on draft day, and we really don't know which way the Twins are going. I don't think it would be a surprise if the choice is Greene, Wright, McKay, or Gore. Four pitchers. Doesn't seem like Falvey has the Theo theory of no pitchers, but if he did, Lewis and Willihammer's favorite Adell would be in the mix. Whoever it is, I hope the kid a) turns out to be best player in the draft and allows them to pick someone with top-15/20 talent with the 35/37 pick. That's all I ask.
  4. I saw Steve n Seagull in DC a few months ago. They were great, and also kind of hilarious. Great victory...Berrios worked through some tough spots, and Vargas destroyed that ball. Guaranteed a winning road trip (6-3 with one to go), a series win, and sets up the Nick Turley era.
  5. Yes, I definitely am in the "trade him now" camp. A strong argument could have been made to trade him in the off-season, and he's put up a great first half to make him much more valuable. Career norms: 4.02ERA, .250BAA, 1.27WHIP 2017: 2.44ERA, .156BAA, 0.93WHIP Trade him now before he regresses too much. He should net at least two prospects with 6 years control. I'd target at least one starter. I love the fact that the Twins are competitive this year, but trading Santana could help set the team up to be extremely competitive for a nice 5-6 year period.
  6. Um, I kind of like the rocks. I liked the win more. The umpire was awful, Nolasco was good, Berrios was good but a bit lucky, and the bullpen did their job. I've never personally seen a game end on an overturned review play, but they got it right.
  7. While I wish Alex Meyer was still a Twin, I am glad that the Twins have Berrios in the rotation instead of Nolasco. Oh, and let me chime in very late with Greg Maddux...slightly ahead of Pedro.
  8. Let's go A's! I reaaaaaaaally want the Twins to finish May still in first place. Remember, momentum is only so far as tomorrow's starting pitcher. (Which is who, by the way?)
  9. This definitely doesn't include all of the factors that go into making a good outfielder. Playing the wall and arm strength / accuracy in throwing out runners not included. However, it does shed some light on which players make the best reads, take the best routes and are fastest (and likely make best plays on balls nearly hitting the ground). It's a small sample size of two months, but that list of eight players who have made 6 or more 4 and 5 star catches looks like a pretty strong list of the best outfielders to me. Grossman is on there. Just need to set filter to 0, not 25. He is 0-4 on 4/5 star opportunities, and 9-9 on 1-2 star opportunities.
  10. They now have a sortable page up where you can look at opportunities and conversion rates of outfielders on 5-star, 4-star, etc. https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/catch_probability_leaderboard?min=25&year=2017 I'd suggest that this forum be a place to discuss these stats throughout the year. They are new, so it is going to take some time to get used to them in order to figure out what they mean. For example, Buxton is currently (as of 5/31/17) 0 for 7 on 5-star plays. Meanwhile, Ender Inciarte has converted 4 of 7 of his 5-star opportunities. Does this mean Inciarte is the better outfielder? Perhaps one way to start looking at these stats is to look at all of the 4 and 5 star plays together. That represents all of the balls that 50% of outfielders wouldn't normally catch. Here is a short list, of all outfielders who have recorded at least 6 of these plays on the year: Jarrod Dyson 9 out of 14 = 64.2% Odubel Herrera 7 out of 12 = 58.3% Byron Buxton 10 out of 18 = 55.5% Jackie Bradley 7 out of 13 = 53.8% Kevin Kiermaier 6 out of 13 = 46.2% Ender Inciarte 9 out of 24 = 37.5% Mookie Betts 7 out of 19 = 36.8% Keon Broxton. 6 out of 19 = 31.6% Other players of note: Max Kepler, 2 for 6, Alex Gordon 1 for 8, Aaron Hicks 0 for 11, Mike Trout 0 for 7, and Denard Span 1 for 10, Billy Hamilton 4 for 12. Is this a good way of looking at it? Then again, Dyson has missed two 3-star oppportunites this year, as has Jackie Bradley, while Buxton hasn't missed any. This would be an interesting set of stats to monitor throughout the season.
  11. I got it, he has struck out in 8 consecutive at bats. He's still the most likely player on the roster to win the game with one good swing.
  12. Sure, he's struck out against Chris Archer. Still want a prolific home run hitter up in that situation.
  13. The Rosario out at third was overturned against the Twins.
  14. Let me just say one more time, Dozier was safe at home.
  15. Not focused on tomorrow. Right here, right now.
  16. With a two run lead, Buxton should be laying out for that ball.
  17. Dozier and Rosario both should have been called safe on those plays.
  18. CBU: Mauer raises his average from 265 to 285 this afternoon, hits game tying homer.
  19. Or...set up Mauer for the elusive walk-off triple? Edit: Trying to envision how to accomplish. Clearly it involves an overthrow at third that allows him to scamper (yes, scamper) home with the winning run.
  20. That was huge. Crowd should be fired up for a rally in the bottom of the 8th here.
