  1. I was going to come on here and write that if no one else had.
  2. Ben, thanks for sharing your stacker theory. I think it has a lot of merit. Interesting discussion as well. I have a bit different take on this. We know that a ton of failed starters have turned into excellent relievers. And we know that relievers generally pitch better (including faster) in shorter outings than they do in longer starter roles. So my question is, why not scrap starters (and stackers) entirely? Could you manage a pitching staff with a completely bullpen approach? Maybe each pitcher gets once through the lineup. Then no batter gets to see a pitcher a second time. It would take some calibration to figure out how many pitchers you would use on a given day / how much rest they get. It seems like this would result in better overall pitching staff numbers.
  3. I’m seeing a trend with the front office. They definitely like grabbing AAAA / post-hype guys near their age prime. Robbie Grossman, Jake Cave, Tyler Austin, this guy. Doesn’t seem like a bad strategy.
  4. That’s right. They wanted to get a-tent-ion.
  5. I want a manager who gets Buxton and Sano to play to their potential. (And who gets Joe Mauer a World Series ring.)
  6. Which reminds me, why did the campers jump up and down?
  7. That was a way better way to retire than those ridiculous “tours” that Jeter and others did. And so much more Joe, too. Well played, Mauer. Congratulations on a great career, Joe.
  8. Definitely an impressive season by Kiriloff. But by and large, not too many standout seasons from the hitters in the system.
  9. They expect Lewis and Kiriloff to be top 3? Amazing. And if I read the parentheses right, Lewis is already #1? Wow.
  10. I was totally with you until that very last part, and then you lost a lot of credibility.
  11. Berrios Gibson Stewart Gonsalves Odorizzi Pineda (Romero) Interesting to see this rotation over the last month. Is the Trevor May in the rotation idea history?
  12. A’s were 1-9 in RISP, and the “1” resulted in an out at home. I was trying to figure out wha the “100 Club” was for Rosario. 100.6mph on that throw, wow! Stewart did alright. Hopefully he builds on this going forward in his next few starts.
  13. He fell victim to one of the classic blunders.
  14. Thanks for this article, Ted. I’ve enjoyed rooting for Joe his entire career. I’ll enjoy watching him in the playoffs next year. I am still predicting that he is playing the long-game, saving up a first-pitch swing for a key spot in the World Series.
  15. I think I’d have gone with Larnach and Enlow for the POD’s. Seth, have you ever gone through and done a player of the day leaderboard?
  16. Well, I’d vote for him, anyway. Off topic, but nice sequence by Rosario there.
  17. Quite the crowd tonight. Um, I meant quiet crowd tonight.
  18. This is the wrong question. The question is, how many games over .500 will they finish? When they are a bad team, the season is lost, and they are in the vicinity of a top-5 pick, I have “rooted” for losses, which was really rooting for a better future team. Very glad the team did poorly down the stretch a couple of years ago and landed Royce Lewis. Really wished they could have lost five more games in 2012 so they would have drafted ahead of the Cubs in 2013. Anyway, this isn’t a bad team, and I like their chances for 2019, so I’d like to see them finish the season on a roll. I think they have it in them. Forsythe will carry them.
  19. Stewart and Gonsalves were both drafted (out of high school) in the same year, and promoted on similar timeframes. Stewart was the top pick, while Gonsalves had the chip on his shoulder for being drafted later (fourth), due to some questions about character. Gonsalves has produced better minor league numbers than Stewart and has generally passed him as a prospect. But it makes sense that Stewart got the opportunity first. Good luck to him, and congratulations!
