  1. I think half of Twins Daily is facing prison time...
  2. I am just amazed that people are paying $1700 for a ticket. Well played. Now, turn that $2000 around and buy a ticket to Brazil to watch the World Cup?
  3. He seems to have the highest upside of anyone in the draft. If he falls to the Twins, I hope they select him, to make it three straight years of snagging "highest upside." That's what you should be doing with these picks. If he is gone, my vote, which counts for nothing, is Nola. He has a lower ceiling, but not really that much lower (although a different way of getting there), and to me seems like the risks are considerably lower with Nola.
  4. I don't think anyone is arguing that college numbers are the only factor in eventual big-league success. But track records certainly count for something, or else why would players stocks shift so much over a single college season? (Rodon's stock dropped with a bad month or so of college play this spring, as an example. Maneaea last year is another example.). You brought up the college comp of Wimmers to Nola. That didn't look right to me. Tyler Beede looks like a better comparison to Wimmers to me.
  5. Except that he didn't. For example, Wimmers posted a 4.5BB/9 in college.
  6. Would be cool to have Gonsalves and Aiken teamed up though.
  7. He really crushed that ball off the wall.
  8. Lefty, lots of helium this year. I'd prefer they pick someone with a longer track record of success, though.
  9. I think the most obvious impact this has is that Bonnes isn't going to have to work quite so hard to come up with a "big switch" this week.
  10. Oh. Just saw it in the Star Trib. That's good news.
  11. Eddie Rosario. I'll take sausage and pepperoni on my pizza. I don't need anymore kids.
  12. I was talking about 2013 only. At this point, I would be very happy if we have to worry much about Hicks' service time in the future!
  13. Going into the season last year, they elected to promote a guy from AA to Opening Day lead-off CF. He had an up-and-down record in the minors, repeating levels and having clunker years. It could have worked--he could have excelled immediately. But it could have very conceivably failed, leaving them with the option of admitting error and demoting him, or digging their heels in and sticking with him. Alternatively, by starting him at AAA, there were no bad options. If he did well, he could be promoted (and saved a FA year in the process.). If he failed, the move would have shown he needed time in AAA. I don't know what strategy game is the right analogy, but choosing a path very likely to leave you with no good options over a path with only good options/outcomes seems pretty bad. Not to mention the fact that the decision seemed to fly in the face of the recognition of where the team was in terms of it's point in the rebuilding process.
  14. Here is what I posted on the Nola thread: "I'm liking Nola more and more as the draft comes up. Even if he doesn't wind up as a big strikeout guy, his ability to limit walks seems like an 80-grade tool. (A tool that is also hard to develop.) For some reason, I am envisioning him coming out of this draft as the best pitcher by far, with teams kicking themselves for passing on him. ... "The biggest reason not to draft him is that this might be the last chance the Twins have for a while to have this high of a high draft pick, and therefore it might be the last really good chance to get the SS of the future in a guy like Gordon." Right now I am hoping for Nola or Gordon. Reasons to be scared of drafting a HS pitcher two years running. Rodon also seems to have some red flags.
  15. I looked through his game logs this year...mostly 100-115 per outing.
  16. Meant to reply to Dave about the dislike button. Post fail.
  17. OK, fine. It was a lousy place to start. I take it back! Plus, I really don't think Nola will be as good as Maddux. The downside on Nola, I think, is that he isn't tall enough, doesn't throw it fast enough, and doesn't have one dominating pitch. But if Nola can turn into a pitcher with 3+ K/BB rates, <9 H/9, and keep HRs down...wouldn't that be an exceptional pitcher?
  18. Here is a comp: Maddux: 6'0", 170lbs, RHP, Career rates of 6.1K/9 and 1.8BB/9, 8.5H/9, 0.6HR/9. Nola: 6'2", 170lbs, 9.4K/9, 1.4BB/9, 6.5H/9, 0.5HR/9.
  19. I'm liking Nola more and more as the draft comes up. If they were able to sign him for below slot at #5, they could take an overslot HS pitcher in the second round. The biggest reason not to draft him is that this might be the last chance the Twins have for a while to have this high of a high draft pick, and therefore it might be the last really good chance to get the SS of the future in a guy like Gordon.
  20. As the college season has progressed, I have wondered why Nola hasn't gotten more positive reviews. Is it that he can't throw hard enough. To me, he looks like a very good pick at #5.
  21. Butterfingers has really looked good this spring. He'll probably go in the 12-14 range.
  22. After reading the Hoffman news, I was starting to hope for a Freeland/Hoffman first two picks for the Twins. what are the chances Hoffman or Trea Turner fall to the Twins in the second?
  23. I like the Snake Plissken reference. Was the Hughes contract really "widely derided nationally?"
