  1. I'm not as optimistic as she is about the offense; no speed, questionable power, few clutch hits, lots of Ks.
  2. 84 million is a lot, but that does buy 9 seasons' worth of starting pitching. Hard to say addressing your primary need with a couple of the better pieces out there for sane contracts is bad.
  3. I always thought Kubel was at least an average fielder as well; better than Doumit in the OF at least, and Willingham as well.
  4. When did Butera ever hit 15 HRs in a season, or as high as .279, or drive in 88 runs? I know, it was a few years ago, but Suzuki has produced as a major leaguer. Butera hasn't even crossed the Mendoza line as a major leaguer.
  5. I like this signing because a better guy like AJ would likely push Pinto to the bench more often than not. Now it's up to Josmil to grab that starter's job and leave Suzuki the backup role.
  6. We've seen higher-rated, older prospects throw for a higher ERA at lower leagues when healthy than this guy did last year in AAA with a sore shoulder. His college, first year, and AFL numbers were all pretty good. Seeing that trading Doumit itself hurts nothing, I like the trade - all I can say about this and the Butera trade is, more of the same please.
  7. I can't help but be reminded of a very similar 2 year deal completed last off-season, and the vitriol and doom-foretelling that took place. I expect similar results.
  8. So many times last season Pelfrey would have a great start for 5 innings, then collapse. I hope that another year removed from TJ will reveal a solid sterter good to go deep in games.
  9. Everyone knows the starting rotation was job 1 for Ryan, but let's not forget how crap the offense has been these last 3 seasons: 2011, 13th in AL runs 2012, 10th 2013, 13th Dead last in home runs 2 of those seasons. Sano is a long-term piece that can held reverse that trend. To trade him for more pitching would be a big mistake.
  10. Regardless of ranking, that is one nice top 5. (I think/hope Stewart will be the best of the bunch)
  11. Canadien rediscovers power in Rocky Mountains - book it. We gave them a batting champ, how about an RBI champ to boot.
  12. Oh hell no! That would be playing right into Beane's hand.
  13. I'd say decent more than mediocre. They won a lot of divisions, and played some meaningful games. Toronto would be my definition of mediocre, or Washington.
  14. Given Perkins team-friendly contract, I wouldn't. Walker seems like a good fit because he is also a boom or bust proposition. It could end up a win-win trade for both teams.
  15. Outstanding stuff Seth. Very interesting to see the characteristics that allow these guys to succeed.
  16. Billy Beane is no dummy, and prying him away from Oakland wouldn't be cheap, regardless of health issues. It is a classic high risk/high reward proposition.
  17. Funny how a big guy like AJ has managed to stay behind the plate without major health issues.
  18. I like these 2 picks.
  19. Thanks to you guys - I became tired of the bickering/negativirty on the Twins board, and this place has been great, knowledgable commentary coupled with mainly respectful discourse. Hats off gentlemen.
  20. Wouldn't it be crazy if the Vanimal rediscovered his mojo, and the Twins could trot out a MLB average rotation? Good start with Nolasco. The Twins need to become relevant again.
  21. Wasn't that a sequel to Night of the Living Dead?
  22. At 1st, Mauer has a chance to age gracefully as a previous poster mentioned. Paul Molitor might be an apt potential comparison.
  23. His home runs and ops have declined two seasons in a row, 38, 30, 25, and .981, .940, and .819. He is well-protected in a stacked line-up, yet his walks have also dropped over the same period. He turns 30 in May. This may add up a trend, maybe not. However, you'd have to ask if those numbers are worth that money, even more than with Mauer.
  24. What about the light rail and the Coaster? Plenty of buses too. I had no trouble getting around there without a car. Probably different if you are living there as opposed to visiting.
  25. If you've ever been to San Diego, it's pretty easy to see why. Nice city with great weather.
