  1. When I was in the Air Force, I got sent down to Biloxi to the NCO Academy. One of the things we get evaluated on towards the end of the course is outdoor marching drills. Thing is, they have a regulation at that base that says if it's below 50 (or maybe it was if AT 50 or below), then outdoor drills are suspended...even if it's for an exam. Having lived for years in N Dakota for years, I found this funny when it came time for the outdoor marching drills exam and it was cancelled cause it was 49 degrees and all we could do was indoor drills in the classroom.
  2. I grew up in California...was at school during a 4.2 quake...it happened at lunchtime and no one even noticed we had a quake... As far as the below 50 comment...that's more of a Southern California thing...
  3. My comment was just 'in general'..not to anyone in particular whatsoever...
  4. People are getting worked up about a lot of things already. It's just too early to make any judgements on our 'improved' pitching or some of our struggling hitting. Let's enjoy the series win, but 3 games doesn't mean anything.
  5. For the record, how long do you think Buxton will spend in the minors?
  6. 1st time in the last three seasons we've been at .500 or better.
  7. Do you only watch Twins games? I've watched Correia pitch PLENTY. He has an average ERA+ over the last 3 years of 78. I'm sorry, what did you think people were gonna say when Ryan said he was going to seriously improve the rotation and he brings in Correia. We all want to eat crow when it comes to him...but one game doesn't change anything...it's extremely unlikely he comes to the AL and IMPROVES.
  8. Well, going back to the original discussion I was having with Brock, it was about what kind of career he may have. The comparison was him to Juan Pierre and it originally centered around the WAR stat. I guess I should have been clearer on what I meant. My bad.
  9. Cardinals are #1 AND their must see affiliate is Triple A. NICE!
  10. Baseball is the only sport I'll watch no matter who the teams are. For NFL or NCAA college football, I really only care about a couple teams. If they aren't playing, I can take it or leave it. Hockey is the same way. I don't even watch basketball...especially NBA...it's a shell of the game it used to be. Baseball though, every time I went through Baltimore on my way to or from a deployment, I'd make sure I'd catch a game if the Orioles were in town. I'm not an Orioles fan and at no game that I've watched there were they playing any team I like, but I didn't care. Good times.
  11. well, we've already seen a good percentage drop in attendance from 2011 to 2012. I imagine it'll be somewhat similar this year. Additionally, from what I've heard (and correct me if I'm wrong) but this year there was a decent drop in season ticket sales as well. We have another year like the last two, you don't think that trend will continue? It seems it's already affecting things...yes, many fans won't care one way or another...the park will never truly be empty, but the dropoffs are pretty steep already, percentage-wise, and the new stadium smell still lingers in the air...
  12. It's the same as any other product being provided. If I go to a nice restaurant and the food and service are bad, I may blow it off as a bad night. If I come back another time or two, and it's the same, I'm not going to keep spending my money on it till I hear things have changed...which will likely result in a turnover of management and personnel. The only way to voice our concerns is through our pocketbooks...since money is all the Twins management cares about.
  13. How do we know they are lying? Their lips are moving...
  14. anyway, this isn't important enough to continue...no minds changed. We'll see how it plays out.
  15. This is what you said about UZR/150 :'You're getting too hung up on UZR/150 (which isn't used in WAR anyway)'. That's not playing semantics? Obviously I'm talking about UZR, and obviously I only used UZR/150 because we're looking at him being a full time player. Then when I mentioned the actual UZR stat you never refered to that in any response.
  16. not Revere's historical trends. We're talking about Revere. As far as the UZR/150 versus UZR thing...that's a technicality, nothing more. The way you dismissed it was as if it didn't matter in the WAR equation when UZR/150 is just a projection for a whole season of UZR, was pure semantics. You wanna play those, that's fine, but it's not helpful in a discussion trying to get to the truth...it's just petty. The point was UZR (I only used UZR/150 for a projection since we're trying to figure out what it might be in the future as a full time center fielder and opposed to full time RF)...and then I showed the UZR actual difference...and you ignored that.
  17. Yeah, I believe that's the link I used earlier
  18. and how much of a sample size are the stats you're using? Well, I can see there's no convincing you...so I guess we're at an impasse. BTW, you never did tell me what replaced UZR as the defensive metric in Fangraph's WAR calculation.
  19. I know fans who have pretty much guaranteed he won't make the HOF and that it's silly to even think people should be talking about the possibility...
  20. It's my opinion that by moving to a division with tougher pitching his offensive numbers will go down. The fact that it's a smaller park MIGHT also hurt his offensive number because the OF will have less room to cover. I believe he'll lose value as a CF defensively off last year in RF. He'll still be very good defensively, but the people he's now compared to defensively as a lot better than the RFs he was compared to.
  21. You mean like...DRS defensive runs saved. -1 in 2011 in CF, 11 in RF. A 12 run difference even though he played like 70 more innings in CF
  22. likely cut down on DRS
  23. it also means less OF chances, I'd imagine. it'll be interesting to see how that plays out.
