  1. For me it's about being cautiously optimistic. Position C, if you will: Correia has looked very good and, despite his recent history, I hope he can continue and make a lot of people, including me, eat crow...cause he's a Twins and we want all of our guys to do well.
  2. I'm looking forward to having both of them in the OF for years to come.
  3. We're using the Twins barometer for good and bad. I guess if we're doing that, 4.46 is good :-) Though we have to consider than a 4.46 ERA in the NL. It's worse than his overall ERA for the season (4.21) and that 4.21 ERA translated to an OPS+ of like 88. No, I haven't looked at everything, but I doubt I'd have much of an issue with someone showing me some stats I hadn't seen...even if they didn't seem to mean much to me...or even if they presented an opposite viewpoint to the one I had. I certainly wouldn't just blow them off or give the guy who gave them flak for presenting them. The more info the better, IMO. That was my point. In any event, for my part, I think we've gotten as far as we're going to go with this. I am extremely happy with what he's done so far...apparently me mentioning his April history was off-limits to some, so I apologize for that.
  4. it's also possible that, in addition to all the cold weather gear he was wearing on his cranium, that because Florimon was coming out, he took a glance to see where Florimon was, and that caused him to lose the ball for a second and that messed up his reaction.
  5. maybe just say that next time? Historical stats are used all the time to try and form a pattern. The last three years are usually the most relevant. Using them sometimes and not other times seems like a strange policy. I don't see how pointing out his performance the last three April's prior to this one is any issue, whatsoever...especially with pitchers when they say to start the season pitchers are usually ahead of hitters. Seems April would be a telling month. Next we'll be cutting out pre all-star/post all-star stats. Away games and home games. Nothing wrong with looking at EVERYTHING. Because YOU don't see any chronogical pattern to a players success or failure based on certain time frames doesn't mean there isn't. Certainly doesn't mean the info isn't worth sharing. You say 'In 2011... Kevin Correia had a 3.40 ERA on June 1 so it actually lasted longer than April.' And that's fine, but what that doesn't say is that his ERA was under 3.00 in April and over 4.00 in May to make that 3.40 ERA. Then you say 'Matter of fact... He was at 3.73 on July 3.'..yeah, but now he's posted an ERA of 4.46 in June to raise it to that 3.73. If anything, looking at his July 3rd numbers without looking at anything else would make one believe he'd been pitching at that 3.73 rate for the first three months, it wouldn't tell you he had a very good April and not so good May and a bad June. If anything it shows how relevant pointing out April's stats was in the first place.
  6. I don't...Gardy just makes himself look worse every time he does it...and in Slowey's situation, he made himself look petty...which also isn't a rare thing for him.
  7. I agree, got to give credit where it's due. I think I did that in both posts. I'll absolutely enjoy it for as long as it lasts and hopefully it'll last the whole year. I would hope every Twins fan wants all of our players to do as well as they can.
  8. I'm not exactly sure what point you are trying to make. Is it that you think my info was irrelevant? Not even worth mentioning? What exactly? I mean, you post seems overly sarcastic, but maybe I'm misreading it. Is there something bad about giving this info? Something wrong with giving recent historical info on players?
  9. No, actually, it isn't...but the Twins made it public...the Twins slammed him publically (especially Gardy) for it and instead of whimpering to himself and keeping his mouth shut, Slowey countered. And, BTW, Slowey isn't the leader on the team, Gardy is. You wanna apply leadership principles to non-leaders.
  10. yes, he was unhappy later...but he didn't complain and whine about it right away...he accepted it, tried it, but he had issues doing it...so then he voiced the issues.
  11. In 2012 and 2011, he posted an ERA in April under 3.00. In 2010, it was under 4.00. He starts well....which is very nice...he's done well. I hope he continues, but like everyone else's stats, it's important to remember we're like 2 weeks into the season.
  12. yeah, except if you read the article I posted a link to and the quote I provided from it, it's doubtful they never really considered Baker for the bullpen spot. It also showed Slowey whole-heartedly accepted the move to the bullpen. I can re-post it again, if you'd like. And I didn't ignore IP or starts. If anything that info how they had tagged Slowey all along for the bullpen and that he never had a shot at the rotation
  13. What of my post do you think you debunked by posting this? Let's try this article Twins settle on Scott Baker as fifth starter, put Kevin Slowey in bullpen | twinsbaseball.com: News some quotes: Anderson said the club weighed several factors in deciding who should win the position, including the fact that Baker is coming off surgery in October to remove bone chips and spurs from his right elbow. IT TAKES LONGER FOR BAKER TO WARM UP because of his offseason surgery, and he has only served as a starter this spring -- posting a 2.84 ERA with 11 strikeouts and three walks over 12 2/3 innings in four outings. "I think it's a logical thing with Bake coming off elbow surgery," Anderson said, "and Slowey is healthy, and he's done it in the past. Anderson also said: 'Pitching coach Rick Anderson notified Slowey on Monday, and said Slowey was willing to embrace his new role as a relief pitcher. "Unbelievable," Anderson said of Slowey's attitude. "We talked to him about it and he said, 'Game on. Anything you want, I'm on board and can do it. I just want to help us win.' So it's awesome."
  14. Correia has done very well. He has a history of doing well in April, so it's good to see him continue that particular trend.
  15. I know what options are...and how they work. Thanks for the refresher though.
  16. Not only that, but one of the reasons Baker wasn't ever considered for the bullpen was because they knew he'd have the same problems Slowey had doing it...but with him it was okay to not even try it. Slowey goes to the pen, tries it, he has issues with it, and when he speaks up, he's slammed. Slowey, I believe, also had the best ERA of all the ones in the 'ST Battle' for the rotation. Put that all together, and I think he had every right to be ticked off.
  17. I think bio-pics lately have been lacking overall. Not that there hasn't been some good ones (J Edgar), but Lincoln for example. It wasn't about Lincoln. It was about the struggles to get the 13th amendment passed. I felt it lacking on so many levels based on what I expected it to be. '42' has undoubtedly had the same affect on many for the same reasons.
  18. yeah, sometimes people mess with Wikipedia entrees but I'm not sure why anyone would in this instance. In any event, it may be three days, it may be three games.
  19. For his career, Stewart had a losing record against the Twins (10-16) and had an ERA of 4.37. Maybe you meant just when he was an Oakland A? Steib did okay against us. Mid 3.00 ERA with a 13-14 record.
  20. Playoff Pettitte sure did...overall, seems Pettitte owned Baltimore even more...
  21. Have to factor in the amount of options a player has too...
  22. Gleeman wrote an interesting piece about how the Slowey situation was handled. Jim Souhan » AaronGleeman.com » Aaron Gleeman's Baseball and Minnesota Twins Blog Have to scroll down about halfway, dated Dec 9. The Souhan's quote makes me sick...
  23. Personally, I am rooting for him.
  24. Bereavement list The bereavement list may be used when a player finds it necessary to leave the team to attend to a serious illness or death in his (or his spouse's) immediate family. A player placed on the bereavement list must miss a minimum of three games and a maximum of seven games. The team can use another player from its 40-man roster to replace a player on the bereavement list. Paternity leave list The paternity leave list may be used when a player finds it necessary to leave the team to attend the birth of his child. A player placed on the paternity leave list must miss the next team game, but no more than three games. The team can use another player from its 40-man roster to replace a player on the paternity leave list. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Major_League_Baseball_transactions#Bereavement_list So bereavement list is even longer...not three days either...
