  1. indeed...here's to hoping he gets back to that.
  2. okay, but did you read his post? It was all about comparing OPS to others at different positions. The whole post changes when it goes from .791 to .756.
  3. Plouffe didn't have a .791 OPS in 2012.
  4. My initial post in that discussion was 'money might have also been a factor' I guess if one really digs deep they might conjure up that means 'spend enough money and anyone will come to Minnesota. ', but as much of a stretch as that interpretation is, me clarifying it by saying that I was only saying that might be a factor for some free agents should have clarified what I meant and wouldn't have needed 2+ pages of continued, um, stuff..
  5. Koskie was also always a 3B...even in the minors..but he did eventually become a good 3B.
  6. Man, you are so lucky to have seen Sano play so much 3B. I, personally, haven't been so lucky so I have no idea if Sano will ever get to be better than Plouffe.
  7. yup...eye test says, he's clearly below average right now...
  8. I did not know he qualified for that...good for him.
  9. Who is writing him off? We have the guy till he's like 31 anyway, so he's gonna be around :-) BTW, Baseball reference says he's arbitration eligible in 2014 but not a free agent till 2018. 4 years of arbitration for him (2014-2017)? That seems odd.
  10. I believe in the first month it just goes by MLB record. I wrote the following in a post at the top of this page: 'Something I didn't see mentioned in there is that I believe within the first month of the season, waiver priority is determined by win/loss record regardless of league...so I think that means Astros have first shot, then Cubs then Rockies and then us until May comes around'
  11. I'm not doing that...I'm just saying his defense stinks at 3B, unfortunately. Hoping he gets better soon.
  12. I think I read that Sano gets too low with his glove to start and that causes him to lose range that way.
  13. So, what metric or stat can we use to talk about whether or not he's an average defender at 3B or not? They're all discounted, even though they all say he's well below average. So it's just the eye test? Matter of opinion then...nothing more? I wanna know.
  14. My eyes don't tell me he's average defensively at 3B. I watch a lot of baseball outside of the Twins and he's below average defensively. He may improve to be an average defender at 3B, he may not. One would have thought after years of playing shortstop he might do THAT well too. Certainly had enough practice. Didn't work out there.
  15. I edited and added info...please re-read.
  16. I understand the argument against UZR/150...again, I provided DRS too. And, again, he doesn't pass the eye test. You wanna say you can't judge whether he is or isn't average or not, that's fine. Where was that statement to badsmerf when he said Plouffe was an average defender at 3B? What evidence is there to suggest THAT. Certainly nothing from last year...and if we can't use this year...then what says he's an average defender?
  17. he doesn't pass the eye test either...he's not, at present, an average 3B defender...he's below average....which was exactly my point. Saying he has an OPS close to .800 while also saying he's an average defender is false. Yes, his OPS is close to .800 right now, but it's early. It was in the mid-.700s last year. If one is gonna praise Plouffe, a more honest way to go about it would be something like: 'I like Home Runs. He can hit home runs, so I can deal with all his other shortcomings.' I know there are people who don't like UZR/150 or UZR or whatever...that's fine..I also provided Defensive Runs Saved.
  18. He was 'mocked' as you put it because he kept saying money was never the factor...that it was always the other issues that kept FAs away. I remember distinctly because when the discussion as to why FAs weren't coming here was going on, I wrote that money might also be a factor and he tore into that idea...even after I told him I didn't say it was the only factor, but could be a factor for some. He blew it off as impossible.
  19. Do you believe he's league average 3B defensively? Last year, there were 18 3B who played 800 innings or more...Plouffe ranked dead last for UZR/150. He was 16th out of 18 in defensive runs saved... and he hasn't started off well this season.
  20. I see what you did there on #2....funny!
  21. yeah, the offseason following the 2006 season and 2010 season really stand out. The offseason after the 2006 season it was like they thought we were so good, we didn't need to do anything really, just get some filler and everyone will do as well as they did in 2006 and we'll be right back in the playoffs. After the 2010 season, it was like well we won a lot of games, let's ship off our middle infield and most of our bullpen...surely we can absorb that...cause everyone else will repeat their season. It's like they don't see the need to try and get better every offseason...even if we have a great season, we still need to try and get better.
  22. Here's the breakdown: Understanding the MLB Waiver Process | sidepoints.com Something I didn't see mentioned in there is that I believe within the first month of the season, waiver priority is determined by win/loss record regardless of league...so I think that means Astros have first shot, then Cubs then Rockies and then us until May comes around It also explains 1. Why Mauer got put on Waivers that caused people to say 'they want to trade him, they want to trade him' 2. Why he wasn't claimed
  23. well, you wrote 'Ben Revere has a .273 BA & a .315 OBP. Who do we have for CF right now? A guy hitting .044 who strikes out 39% of his AB's.' It seems like there's a comparison there since Hicks stats followed directly after Revere's. Overall, I wouldn't mind getting Borbon...though I'd be leery of his home/away splits. Texas is a very good hitter's park and his splits are considerable. It would alos concern me that the last good year he had was '09
  24. I think there's a reason those clauses are put into contracts and to say for 100% certain they're meaningless when it comes to determining playing time is laughable. If Ryan tells Gardy he doesn't want Carroll's option to vest, Gardy better make sure he isn't in the lineup long enough to reach the vesting goal. I doubt that's what is going on here, but still...it's not out of the realm of possibility.
