  1. I'm glad you think so...
  2. Yes, because in 20-25% of his AB he'll only have, at most, Hicks in front of him...and not necessarily in scoring position cause no one will have had a chance to move him over from 1st if he only got a single and didn't steal. He certainly will never have two guys with RISP in that first AB.
  3. Hooray, let's give our best hitter with RISP LESS opportunities w/RISP!...
  4. And give him less opportunities to drive in runs when he is our best hitter with RISP?
  5. Is there a study, or some stats, that say #3 hitters are more likely to end the game in the on deck circle than #2 hitters...or really, more than any other spot in the batting order?
  6. 'If Gardy wants to keep managing (and he seems like the kind of guy who would) he'll be hired by someone fast. Don't you think?' Only one way to find out... :-)
  7. Who is our manager again? He just got done describing what he looks for in a number two. He likes doing all that stuff with his number two when they are capable of it...and Mauer, of course, is.
  8. Because he hits exceptionally well with RISP (better than anyone else on the team) and I'd rather not have him bunting someone over or sacrificing himself to move the guy to third base.
  9. As he should be
  10. The budget will be even smaller by next year and the next and the next...all these new guys coming in from the minors replacing what few high priced players we have left...they'll guys will be playing for under 1M for at least a couple years. We aren't going to make big FA signings...
  11. I don't know, I was just posting some info I found.
  12. still great seats available for the home opener. Section 114, row 13 has two seats available through the Twins MLB ticket section...
  13. 'Diamond is on the 15-day disabled list as he continues to recover from offseason arthroscopic elbow surgery, but he remains on track to make his first start of the regular season on April 12 against the Mets at Target Field.' April 12th is the 10th game of the season and when Hendricks would be making his 2nd start...so now we know who he'll be replacing...
  14. The Pirates ranked 20th in rotation ERA last year...Correia got bumped out of the rotation for awhile...and he's our #2 guy going into this season... Remember when the argument was he'd be our #5 guy...
  15. Of the options available, who would you have selected? Oh and he was better the last two months than he was before that...better at end of the season than the beginning. His 'decent start' consisted of an ERA over 8 in June and over 7.00 in July...his pathetic times consisted of ERA in the mid 3.00s
  16. Let's not forget Zimmer...
  17. If Worley can keep his weight under control, he's likely our best pitcher right now...he's got better stuff than Diamond.
  18. 'We've got another top of the rotation type pitcher coming in this summer's draft which should round out our 2014/2015 rotation...' I wouldn't bet any money on that...
  19. People always seem to think that if he doesn't catch as much as they think he should, it's all on him. Some things to consider: Doctors told Morny and the team that him getting worn down could cause a recurrence of his concussion symptoms. Mauer was the most logical choice to fill in for him when needed. Morny plays in the AL and is a good enough hitter where he can DH or fill in at 1B. Most catchers aren't good enough hitters where it'd be okay to bench starters in favor of them. The team actually has a MLB quality player as his backup where having him DH or play 1B isn't such a strain on the lineup....as opposed to say, Butera a the backup catcher. Gardy makes out the lineup card...Mauer doesn't. If he was in the NL where DH wasn't an option he'd catch more. If he was on an NL team that has a very good hitting 1B, he'd catch a lot more (cause the 1B couldn't be moved to DH).
  20. He's already claimed to know three generations of Pohlads...remember?
  21. Span was ranked as the 3rd best defensive CF in baseball last year..he's not flashy...probably because he takes better routes than most so he doesn't need to be. Offensively, he gets on base, he takes pitches...he does what his role asks of him. Hicks hasn't played one game above AA. I'm high on Hicks too, but saying he's better than Span right now has no basis in reality. Certainly can't put it out there as solid fact the way you did and continue to do. You're looking at ST stuff and minor league numbers below AAA as the basis. You don't know what he'll do over the course of a whole MLB season.
  22. I eat my food very seriously :-)
  23. Good call. I say my wife because she used to cook for a living...at some nice restaurants. Not quite Chef level, but a darn fine cook.
