1. What are you talking about, why would a guy be pissed he was still in A+ ball when he's only been in the minors four years? It's his own fault they decided to make him a 2B, cause of all the OF depth, delaying his rise up the minors. Anyway, since they won't tell us what really happened, nor should they, we can all take what few words they gave us and just assume it was the players fault 100%
2. Rules for outright waivers. November 11 - April 30 (or the 30th day of the next season): The club with the worst won-loss record in the previous season has priority. May 1 – July 31 (31st day of the season – July 31): The club with the worst won-loss record in the current season has priority. August 1 through November 10: The club with the worst won-loss record in the current season has priority, but American League clubs have priority for AL players, and National League clubs have priority for NL players. So it's all about when.
3. Am I the only one who finds irony in him saying that thing about condescending Ps around here when, not so long ago, he started a thread by saying: 'To all the people whining Gardy didn't pull him after 7 innings......... learn the game! ' ?
4. Okay, but now that the first month of ball is over, doesn't he go through the AL first before the NL teams even have a chance at him?
5. Hey, what's it like in the locker room and in team meetings? You have such a grasp on how he is with pitchers and what kind of leader he is based on....what? How is it that one player is responsible for the lack of talent on a team? How is one player going to make this team a contender...magically give these players way more talent than they have? These guys are professionals who have played the game probably their whole lives. I'd like to think he leads by example in the way he goes about playing the game.
6. He also promised to do whatever he could to greatly improve this year's rotation...and seemed eager to tell anyone with a microphone how he did just that. Happy about all the quality depth he had acquired.
7. This...it boggles my mind. I mean, he's not my favorite player in baseball (Tulo) or on the team (Morny), but I don't get not being a fan of his. I know one Twins fans whose sole purpose, it seems, is to go looking for good things said about Mauer so he can slam them. All the things wrong with this team, and yet he focuses on what MAUER doesn't do. He's one of those that thinks the new contract should have morphed him into the type of player he isn't. He's also one of those people who claims to know so much about the game, but couldn't figure out that Mauer's 2009 was just one of those seasons that was never going to be repeated....so he complains and complains about Mauer's contract and how he's not the kind of player he thinks he should be instead of marveling at the fact we have a player like him on our team. He's already said Mauer has practically no chance to make the HOF. Went ballistic when someone suggested he's a first ballot HOF.
8. Anibal Sanchez: 2.77 ERA, 55 IP, 68Ks, ERA+ of 158 going into tonite where he was two outs away from a no hitter before Mauer broke it up. Had to settle for a 1 hit complete game shutout.
9. Ryan could buy a whole new rotation with that money...and by that I really mean 5 starting pitchers. How much is he paying this season for the three he brought in, less than 10M?
10. and more next year and the year after.
11. talent is normally added in a draft...this is nothing new...it happens with every team every year. It's also not news the GM has little to do with the draft.
12. Especially important when you keep lowering your payroll...
13. backups are backups and having to fill in here and there he's fine...more than a capable overall backup catcher. If we can get someone to take him off our hands, that's good, but there's no actual rule that says a backup catcher has to be great defensively but carpy hitting. He hits more than fine for a backup catcher when considering how other backup catchers hit. All teams take a hit when they play backups. There seems to be a growing belief that every player on our team needs to be a star or an above average, or even average, MLB starter. It's not realistic. Most every team has weak spots in their starting group and weak players on the bench that don't fit the criteria...doesn't mean those players have no value to the team. Doumit has value as a backup catcher. And, to extend that out, true he's not hitting right now...but it's not like he can't or never has. Most of the team isn't hitting worth a carp.
14. It might be time just to have him as a backup catcher or trade him...
15. He mentioned Doumit, and that's fine, but Doumit has caught less than 10 innings from the guy.
16. I heard the whole team walked by a black cat, broke mirrors in the locker room, and walked under some ladders.
17. yes, how many the TEAM won is the most import...the TEAM, by fielding, hitting and pitching (both starter and the relievers after the starter left). Phil Hughes wasn't better than Felix Hernandez in 2010 because he went 18-8 while Felix went 13-12. Additionally, if you add up all the wins and losses by your starting pitchers you won't come close to accounting for all 162 games, so again, win and loss record by pitchers...meaningless in determining how well the pitcher did.
18. The other way around...he started playing more 1B than OF when Morny got his concussion...check the games played. His arm may play in right field and he's a good baserunner, but the bat is what will get him drafted.
Point is, there's NO comparison to the amount of games played in the OF between Colabello and Parmellee prior to hitting the majors. 13 games to almost 300.
19. So, is it staying up? I guess that's a yes... I had more, but I had to edit...would have been deleted and I would have gotten a warning or worse...
