  1. Are we the barometer to compare Ryan to or are 29 other GMs the barometer? In any event, HE didn't even see Corriea. HE said so himself. So HE didn't judge Correia at all.
  2. Then we can wait until after the Super Two date next year and bring him up then.
  3. Quick question. Where was Berrios ranked on most draft boards? My memory may be failing, and probably is in this instance, but wasn't it said that we reached to get him and could have gotten him a pick or two later? Again, not sure, that's why I'm asking. edit. I just looked at a mock draft from that year that had him as the 47th pick going to Oakland, which was after our 3rd pick.
  4. Season isn't over yet, and he's cooled off since his fantastic April. I'll give Ryan credit for the Correia signing if he ends up under 4.40 ERA (not that ERA is better than FIP, but to appease some people, I'll go with ERA)
  5. There is no way they spend more next year than this year. With the money coming off the books, cheap minor leaguers coming up, no one due any significant raises, and Ryan's reluctance to go after expensive players, I can't see how it could be more than last year. Especially when you consider everyone else is getting that extra money too.
  6. As much to it as those seeing the defense as worse. Except that the ones seeing it as worse have things to back it up, besides just their eyes, so really not even as much to it.
  7. As if that matters...it more fun to bash the most extreme side of an argument, even if the extreme part of the argument was never made. Asking the twins to stick to spending 50-52% of revenue is EXACTLY like asking them to spend like the Dodgers and Yankees...
  8. Not that 'The eyeball test says they're better defensively than last year.' was a compelling argument to begin with...
  9. I think it will be many years before payroll gets above what it is right now as we keep bringing up cheap talent and some of our expensive talent goes.
  10. Again, the bump in payroll for 2011 was mostly for players already on the team getting raises (like Mauer's big one). They gutted the bullpen and middle IF and they didn't go hog wild on the FA market in an attempt to go for it.
  11. Well, that settles it then :-)
  12. But if they wait till mid June next year, they'll gain another year of control. Why bother promoting him this year in a throw away year? Then next year we wait till he's past Super Two... :-)
  13. Well, Hardy wasn't last year. On top of that, you're underestimating how well Revere and Span did last year...Revere had a UZR of 15.4 (with his UZR/150 the best for any RF in the game), Span was 2nd in the majors for CF at 7.7. Hicks and Parmelee have negative UZRs . Nothing slight about the downgrades out there. Additionally, it may all even out over the course of the whole season. Could improve. I'm just providing the data, I didn't create it.
  14. Do you think, at this point, he's sitting there wondering what in the heck he has to do to get promoted?
  15. I don't think he's arguing his yearly numbers. He's saying that after a bad start, he's doing much better. Defensively he's been well above average. Let's not forget this is only his second year and that he has less than a years worth of games under his belt. just sayin'
  16. Overall, according to Baseball Prospectus, we rank DEAD LAST in the MAJORS in defensive efficiency. Last year we ranked 18th.
  17. And although the Twins are very surprising, I'm not sure they're more surprising than the Rockies or the Pirates. I think an argument could be made for all three if we're talking about a team be surprisingly better than expected. Washington and the Angels have been surprising in the other direction.
  18. Correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't you one of the posters who strongly backed up the FO not spending this year because it's a lost season anyway? If you were, and you now believe we have a shot at the playoffs as this post I'm responding to seems to indicate, does your stance change on the whole spending issue?
  19. Okay, so it's not just me. Good to know. :-)
  20. I'm very happy with our win total so far. I'm happy we've had some entertaining baseball. I'm not sure I expect the wins to continue. I still think we end up under 70 wins, but would love to be wrong.
  21. But his FIP is 4.68. I'm kind of wondering why some people like the xFIP more than FIP.
  22. Do you prefer xFIP to FIP?
  23. And by production you mean HRs, right?
