  1. It's your thing so obviously your call, but I was curious why you'd add international signings since they don't go on the 40 man payroll. Be like adding the draft bonuses for the draft.
  2. Bert pronounces it correctly, Bremer doesn't. It's hilarious.
  3. Drives me crazy the way Bremer pronounces Arcia's name. Anyone else?
  4. I've exhausted my point on this though and it really is way off topic, so I'm done with this line of the conversation.
  5. Santana, Hunter and other Twins certainly friggin cared. They felt they were in a playoff hunt and Ryan decided to trade a leadoff guy hitting .300, getting on base at over a .350 clip and playing good D and got NOTHING in return. Nor did he go after anyone to help them for them make a run at the playoffs. Anyway, the original point of bringing up the Castillo trade was that a poster said the Twins are usually looking for quality with trades around this time, so I mentioned that trade by Ryan that happened close to the deadline, which netted us zero quality whatsoever.
  6. The cheaper replacement in Span? The guy who didn't even follow Hunter because they went out and got another CF instead. A guy who only got his break that year cause of Cuddyer getting hurt. We do know both Torii and Santana both asked why should they stay there if the team is always rebuilding. We know Torii wanted an extension before the 2007 season, a contract like Gary Matthews had just signed, and he wasn't approached according to him. I like how you cut my quote to exclude the part about Santana and how he did and how we couldn't know for sure he'd have gotten hurt if he stayed. I also didn't say for sure it haunted us as if it was 100% fact. So give me a break
  7. As always, in your never-ending quest to defend Ryan and the Pohlads at every turn, you missed the whole point. Did you even bother to go back to the beginning of when I mentioned Castillo and see the quote I was responding to? Something about how the twins always want quality back in trades towards the deadline. Name the quality we got back. And yeah, that trade may very well have haunted us. Likely slammed the door on any chance of signing Torii that offseason or extending Santana with how ticked they both were with that trade of such a horrible player. Before Santana's injury is mentioned, there's no way to know if he would have gotten injured had he stayed and he did very well his first three seasons with the Mets, especially his first when he led the NL in IP, ERA and quality starts with over 200Ks And we all know how Torii has done.
  8. He was a productive player for us, we got nothing in return, and the players felt Ryan gave up on them. And yes, we were 7 games back, but we also were 54-51 and in third place. We had the talent on the team and we were playing decent ball at the time. It wouldn't have been unheard of to make a run then. I can see why the players were ticked off. I was too when it happened. It's not like now when we're 7.5 back, in 4th place and sitting at 36-44.
  9. and for us? He had a positive UZR in 2007. He played the turf well.
  10. yes, a bad play for sure. like every player in the history of the game. buckner was a fine 1B, he'll always be known for the ball through the legs. he held the record for assists by a 1B until Pujols broke it.
  11. By that logic, why not trade Torii at that point too? It was his last year and they hadn't even made an offer to him at that point. And yes, he wasn't a GG caliber 2B at that time, but still above average.
  12. Bad enough to have Torii and Santana speak out big time against it. He didn't perform too poorly for the Mets either...especially for the remaining part of that year or 2009. Certainly better than our rotation of dregs at 2B.
  13. My question is this. At this moment in time, is Duensing better? For those saying he is, how do we know? Because of history? Would we say Trout wasn't as good as, say, Adam Jones at this time last year because Jones has history of being okay to above-average while Trout was just a rookie? Who would you take right now and going forward, Puig or Nelson Cruz? Duensing didn't hit the majors till he was 26. Thielbar is 26. It doesn't matter what Duensing did in the past. Who is better now and going forward? Seems the consensus is Duensing. I have my doubts.
  14. Okay, well, everyone seem to think he's still good. I must be wrong. And, yeah, I didn't double check the innings on that, so that's my bad there.
  15. He was horrible as a reliever in 2011. ERA over 5.00 as a reliever that year. He had an ERA in the high 3.00s in 2012 as a reliever, but he also allowed his share of inherited runners. And he's been bad this year too.
  16. Well, if I remember correctly, the last time Ryan did a trade at the deadline, he traded away our GG caliber, .300 batting, leadoff hitting 2B for a box of rocks.
  17. Yes, he had a bad 2010 so Milwaukee let him go. He was picked up by us the same season he went to independent ball. Currently, the only thing we can say for sure is that we haven't seen enough of Thielbar in the majors. We can't say for certain that, as of now, he's worse than Duensing. Duensing has also been horrible for us the last two and a half seasons.
  18. You know for sure that Duensing is better? I'd be interested in why you believe that.
  19. You think so? Do you remember him and Torii publicly thrashing Ryan for dealing Castillo in the middle of a playoff race. Saying if they are always building for the future there's no need for him to be there. I also remember him wanting to get an extension done prior to the start of 2007 and being disappointed that the Twins never approached him (same with Torii).
  20. So Gardy himself said it last night or someone else said that's what Gardy told them? I ask because Gardy also said Thielbar would get more meaningful innings before Monday's game, then he brought Burton in to blow another game and then last night he uses Thielbar when we're losing by 6 runs.
  21. I believe you, but do you have a source.
  22. We could decide to just let him bat right handed full time and see how that works out.
