  1. There are 45 starting pitchers in the AL that have enough innings to be considered qualified for stats. While he's started enough games, the fact that he has given us barely 5 innings an outing in his 15 starts doesn't quite put him over the edge to be considered qualified for stats. If he had just a few more innings, he'd be ranked 45th out of 46 in ERA (right below Diamond at 44). He's been bad. His FIP says not as bad as his ERA shows, though. His FIP says he's been better than Correia. He is getting better though. Three of his last four outing have been quality starts.
  2. I'm sorry, I probably misread, but did you say Tampa needs a 3B?
  3. He hasn't been as awful as expected, yet...but he's starting to move in that direction and his FIP right now is 4.70. He has stayed healthy and he's giving us innings, which helps I guess. Half his starts have been quality ones, though 5 of them were in April and only 4 since then. For those who put stock in Fangraphs value numbers, he's in line to be worth what his salary is...so far.
  4. Your post sure seemed to suggest you were arguing exactly that, since you're advocating it's a good idea to lose games then you talk about how we want to have playoffs wins in a counter argument against someone saying they don't like the idea of wanting the Twins to lose.I'll take your word for it you didn't mean that and I misunderstood. Yes, having better players on your team improves your chances of making the playoffs...but those are players that get to the major leagues and actually prove they are better players. Since a drafted player doesn't go directly to the majors after being drafted, we don't know for sure they are better players. Plenty of busts to show that. We had 6 chances to get Pedroia in one draft and passed on him. Boston got him with their first pick. Talent can be found in rounds other than the first, or high in the first, but yeah, there's a better chance they best players come in the highest parts of the draft as a general rule. How many high drafted picks have the Pirates and Royals had in the last, say, twenty years or so? When was the last time either made the playoffs. I say root for them to win, period. They'll lose plenty of games, I don't need to hope they do. That's me though. You have your own way to be a fan, that's fine.
  5. I root for my team to win, period. It's not conditional on playoffs, though of course that's what we all want to happen. Having high drafts choices doesn't guarantee winning playoffs games. Certainly there's plenty of examples to disprove that theory. Even if it was true, have to pick the right guys, develop them properly, and then they have to be used properly and work out. Also have to utilize all ways to get good players. There's a lot to it, and losing to get high picks doesn't guarantee playoff victories.
  6. I agree with all of that, but I'd still rather have him catch. I think it's where we get the most value for him, but if they moved him to 1B, I think he'd excel there defensively and continue hitting well.
  7. 19 of the top 30 this year are from the DR.
  8. Every team does, but we are not using every way possible to do so and that can frustrate some people. Unfortunately, tht makes us villains because we dare say so on a site that is supposed to be for all fans to discuss their team. In the case of international prospects, they've done well in the past (never said they didn't), and I hope they continue to do so. So far they haven't this year, which was my point. Didn't say they wouldn't, I just expressed my desire that they focus on quality not quantity, like the Cubs did.
  9. What you want is nothing even close to negative. You're to the point where you're making assumptions, and judging people on those assumptions. My viewpoint isn't all one way or all another way, lik some who blanket defend EVERY SINGLE THING the FO does or doesn't do. I look at things by each individual thing. But whatever. It's your site, you make the rules. You're doing to me exactly what the people in charge are telling we mere mortals not to do. You're attacking a poster instead of the points he makes. I asked before what did I say in that quote you replied to that wasn't true. You've yet to respond, other than to tell me that you can read my mind about what I meant, as if I couldn't just come out and say it clear if I meant what you say I meant.
  10. And all I did was point out what they have done so far with the international prospects, and what I hope they'll do...get more quality than quantity, like the Cubs did. I didn't say they wouldn't, did I? Did I say they are never aggressive in the international market? no. All markets are crapshoot. The first year player draft is a crapshoot. You go out and get the best you can based on the info you have. We need quality players.
  11. And there are some who think Ryan is too conservative overall in how they acquire players. My comment was for what they've done, so far, in the international market this year, and it was in response to someone else saying the same thing and no one is slamming his comment. I also never said they won't end up signing more top quality guys, did I? I expressed what I'd HOPE they'd do, address quality not quantity. Is that a bad wish, Brock? As of now they haven't sealed the deal on any of the top 30 guys except one. Is that a true statement or not, Brock? Have the Cubs signed the 3 of the top international prospects as graded by scouts? Yes or no? What about the part of my post you quoted is wrong, exactly? Where's my accusation, exactly, that you have an issue with? Talk about having a perceived notion.
  12. Some people have a hard time wrapping their head around the idea of wanting their favorite team to lose. Not sure why you have such a hard time understanding that.
  13. That's for the correction on how much money they had. Did you see the question mark cause I wasn't quite sure. I wasn't stating it as fact. It's not like I said, for example, there are 32 teams in MLB, like you did. Here's one for you. There are only 30 teams not 32 like you said as if it's fact. Second, my original post was in response to this post: 'Besides, the international free agent market is well underway and all of the top players have signed deals. The Twins still have about $1.5 million in cap space left. The Twins will not necessarily spend international draft slot money even when they are able to.' How is my response to his post not applicable to that post? Third, I don't care about them spending the money, I care if they spend it on quality instead of quantity. Regardless of what some think, there are scouts who go down there and see enough of those guys to get a feel for how they'll be. The rankings aren't meaningless, or why do they even bother to scout them or give them ranking to begin with? Just because SOME don't feel there's any validity, doesn't make it true. Cubs went out and were aggressive to get players scouts ranked high. Finally...the conniption fit comment? How is that necessary? You think that kind of comment fits the spirit of how the people running this place want exchanging of ideas to be?
  14. There's a new tradition I hope you continue into next year. Definitely something I would love to do, but can't this year.
  15. I think that's less of an issue than thinking they'll sign short-term contracts that are incentive based when other teams will over longer term contracts for a guaranteed amount.
  16. So the scouting is different? There aren't professional scouts ranking these players? Better to just pick the names out of a hat and sign them, right? Heck, might as well do that with all drafts, including first year player's draft, since it's more or less a carp shoot anyway if we go by the way you're arguing your point. The Cubs went for it with the money they had for the international prospects. The Twins, so far, have not. That's the point.
  17. Yeah, they had, what, the 2nd, 3rd most available money but signed the 10th ranked international prospect (an OF to boot) and no others in the top 30? Cubs signed the #1, #3, and #17 ranked international prospect.
  18. His career BA in Boston is .321. His career BA is .322. Then again, Boston has had some very good pitching over the year so he wouldn't be facing them. Not sure if that gets him to .400 though :-) His slg% is a good bit higher than his career slg% though along with his OPS (mostly because of the slg%).
  19. Well, he's pitched very well against us in limited games that's for sure.
  20. There's business reasons for that too. All hitting free agency at the same time. Ryan has mentioned that too. Can't bring a bunch up at the same time or it gets real expensive in 5, 6 years.
  21. Might I add...3)Walking a batter is a sin. and #4) a leadoff walk almost always scores, but somehow a leadoff hit doesn't.
  22. Thanks for the info.
  23. Doesn't comparing relievers to starting pitchers in this instance give one a false comparison? Over 2000 innings compared to 140ish innings? Wouldn't that have to be taken into consideration when saying their BABIPs aren't too far apart.
  24. I asked because his last outing he just seemed off, like he wasn't really focused, not completing his motions. So I wondered if maybe his head was, understandably and uncontrollably, somewhere else.
  25. After reading my whole post, not just the part you quoted, didn't I pretty much say that just in a different way?
