  1. Only 2 hits allowed and 7 strikeouts from Odorizzi through 6 innings... this is what I'm talking about!
  2. Odorizzi is mowing these guys down with that chin-high pitch. Good show thus far.
  3. Nobody's really talking about him, but Zach Duke had a perfect Spring Training (0.00 ERA) and I think he'll be able to shake off a rusty 2017 season (5.29 FIP + 5.9 K/P) and look more like the guy he was in 2014-2016 (2.74 ERA + 10.4 K/9). Speaking of Bard and Chargois, I saw on Roster Resource.com that Justin Haley is projected to make the Red Sox roster as a long reliever. I didn't think he'd resurface in the majors this fast.
  4. I think Grossman is a lock and the final spot is down to Granite or LaMarre. I think we should be learning the winner of that spot very soon now...
  5. I didn't see anything in Berardino's tweets but I did find a source here: https://www.twincities.com/2018/03/24/injuries-to-phil-hughes-zack-granite-complicate-twins-plans/ If Hughes hits the 15 day DL, I wonder who the 5th starter would be. I think it could be Tyler Duffey or maybe even Fernando Romero, but I don't think these two are stretched out enough. Maybe Aaron Slegers? I don't think it'll be Gonsalves or Jorge.
  6. This situation reminds me of Sean Burroughs in 2012. I remember he was a longshot for the roster but had a good Spring Training and was able to make the team. He then ended up getting 2 hits in 18 PAs and was DFA'd and never showed up in the majors again. LaMarre would likely end up doing something similar... it's not like he's going to be getting many PAs.
  7. Remember when Park was crushing Spring Training last year at this time? Then he didn't make the team... but it turned out to be the right decision. It's fun to see LaMarre crushing Spring Training pitchers but the Twins should keep him in AAA for now.
  8. Busenitz is coming off a great 2017 season in both AAA and the majors. A handful of lousy Spring Training innings isn't suddenly going to make him expendable. Duffey hasn't pitched well since 2015, so his roster spot should be getting tumultuous.
  9. It seems Hughes will be making the team as a reliever and playing the role of the mop-up man for any short starts. They're going to put him in the rotation as the 5th starter on April 11th (I believe that's the date when they need a 5th starter) for better or for worse.
  10. It's funny you say that because many said that having both Adrianza and Aybar is redundant. Granite gives the Twins a legitimate backup outfielder so Grossman doesn't have to be playing out there as often. It seems like they think Sano isn't going to be suspended, but there's no way to confirm that right now.
  11. I'm a bit disappointed about Busenitz, but I know he'll be back soon. And it's the same for Moya, as if he doesn't make the Opening Day Roster, he'll be back within no time. I don't think he's taking Rogers spot... Molitor trusts Taylor and isn't going to ship him to AAA after a rough Spring Training. I thought they'd stick with Duffey but I'm glad they decided not to because he's been a poor pitcher the past couple seasons. I'm not sure what can be done with him, but he's reaching the end of his rope. He needs to figure out something at Rochester or it's curtains for his Twins career.
  12. Do the players know much about the prospects in the minors? Maybe I'm not the right one to say this but I would think that Polanco wouldn't know much about that situation. Oh no, the Twins drafted a shortstop first overall who will arrive in 3-4 years and he might not even stick at that position... I highly doubt that's why Polanco was juicing. Though it might be worth mentioning that if he gets caught for using this drug (vitamin?) again he'll get a full season suspension. That's something to keep in the back of your head if or when a team is giving him an extension / new deal in the future.
  13. I think the "boring" approach is the best way to go in this scenario. Rotate Escobar and Adrianza at SS and try not to put Aybar's name in the lineup too often. If Gordon is heating things up in the minors come May, I would be tempted to call him up, but he's got a lot to prove. He's not ready quite yet and I think it'd be a bad idea to rush him. On the other hand, I'd love to have a Rosario scenario where Gordon gets called up when it's clear he's not ready but he thrives in the majors and never looks back, but I don't think we should count on that.
  14. If I have a vote for Sire of Fort Myers, then I'm voting for Fernando Romero. 8 no-hit innings is really impressive.
  15. A 27 year old who has yet to pitch well in AA probably isn't going to be claimed. He'll probably be ready for the majors when he's 29, and that's if he's ever ready.
  16. So I take it Duffey's no longer in the run for a rotation spot? I guess he'll be the 6th/7th reliever in that case.
  17. I'm surprised Mejia is already out of the race, so it's basically Hughes vs Duffey for the 5th starter at this point... although they won't need a 5th starter until the 2nd-3rd week of the season. It'll probably be Hughes, methinks.
  18. I'll have to disagree with this. Both of those teams' rotations have legitimate aces that can shut our offense down. The Twins lack that and last we saw Berrios and Santana in a playoff game against the Yanks, things didn't go well. Lynn's a nice addition but I don't think Odorizzi is going to help as a starter in the playoff hunt. I can't see the Twins rotation silencing the Astros lineup either. I would have still made the Darvish move but Plan B seemed to be just as good as Plan A.
  19. I'm not worried about that happening, Lynn still has a few weeks before the season starts. Morales signed in May, when the season was around 33% progress. I would hope Sanchez or Kinley, but maybe it'll be Vargas. The only reason he's still here is just in case Mauer/Morrison gets hurt, which I think they can risk. If not, Slegers/Enns might be next up because they don't project to be anything more than AAAA pitchers.
  20. Well, I certainly didn't expect to see this happening. I'm surprised he took the Twins deal, especially when we heard that they had offered him something in the ballpark of 2 years $20M. The rotation of Berrios-Lynn-Odorizzi-Gibson-Mejia/etc. is really solid now with Ervin due back mid May and with other guys like May and Gonsalves on the way. Tons of depth, only cost $12M, great stuff! I trusted this FO to make some signings this season even when some despaired after not getting Darvish... I say great job to Favley/Levine taking advantage of the slow market and nabbing Morrison and Lynn. Clearly the Pohlads didn't object to the payroll increasing to approximately $135M. In summary: Fernando Rodney, Zach Duke, Addison Reed, Logan Morrison, Jake Odorizzi, and Lance Lynn. That's one heck of an offseason, outside of not netting an ace. And there's still plenty of prospects in the system if they need to go out and make a big trade midseason.
  21. Really? I hadn't heard anyone talking about this and I was assuming Dozier would get $60-80M tops on a new deal. I would offer Dozier a deal in the 4 year $60-70M range but if someone's offering $90-100M, then that's goodbye. Eddie's a free agent in 2019 too so there's no guarantee he's back. I doubt they go into 2019 with him re-signed as the starter.
  22. Unfortunately (IMO) you're right that Hildenberger isn't a lock. When interviewed, Hildy said that he was pitching as if he was competing for a spot in the bullpen. I'm not sure how much we should care about spring training box scores though. Grossman is what he is at this point, I don't think a poor ST signifies anything.
