  1. Depends. How'd he do?
  2. Hit probability is a function of exit velo and launch angle correct? Seems to be missing a third variable: horizontal angle. Balls hit right at you are harder to gauge depth wise than ones hit to either side. That was a damn tough catch. edit: Kepler's too. Same issue. What was Statcast's hit probability on that one?
  3. Of the 7 teams in the AL wild card chase, the Twins have the easiest schedule by this measure: https://www.twinkietown.com/2017/8/10/16123302/wild-card-chase-comparing-remaining-strengths-of-schedule
  4. I've long suspected Mauer's decline had something to do with changes to the strike zone. Would you say Mills' presentation supports or refutes that?
  5. Was there any discussion as to why TOS surgeries are on the rise? Is it related to the hunt for velocity (eg. practicing with weighted balls) or just better detection?
  6. He's 37, its not a stretch to think he'd perform significantly worse, on average, without adequate rest.
  7. Seth if we're going to throw out the appearances where a reliever gets knocked around then literally every reliever in baseball is awesome.
  8. That's exactly why he needs another couple arms he can trust IMO. Can't just be the Rogers-Belisle show when they inevitably hit a stretch of close games.
  9. Half game back!
  10. Strange coiennsidence for an AL strike out guy.
  11. Easy Jimbo it's only the top of third.
  12. On the radio Provus said the Brewers think this Davies kid could be like a Kyle Kendrick who throws harder. I'm not seeing it.
  13. Fingers crossed for another 7 Ip, 0 R performance, just like Colon did on Wennsday.
  14. Um... http://memeguy.com/photos/images/when-a-stickied-post-on-rgifs-is-looking-for-classic-reaction-gifs-and-then-says-theyr-rreactiongifs-91654.gif
  15. I get the impression that where you fall on the buy/sell debate depends on how you value the Twins finishing the year competitively, if not primed for a deep playoff run. They're not going to add anyone that puts them in the Houston / LA tier, or even Boston or New York probably. But how much would you be willing to spend (in prospects) to finish ahead of the Royals? How important is that?
  16. I don't know if he's the best guy but I'd think Gene Glynn is probably a favorite internally. Evidently Levine has sung his praises for his infield work with Polanco and Sano. Suggests maybe he'd be one to emphasize fundamentals, which if true would be welcome IMO. He obviously has experience managing too. No idea where he is at with analytics.
  17. Michael Rand wrote about the Twins playoff hopes changing since Jul 30. http://www.startribune.com/twins-played-their-way-again-into-a-fun-awkward-position/439423223/
  18. Holy crap its true. Mike Trout = overrated!
  19. Full interview here: https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/2017/06/20/legendary-umpire-joe-west-dishes-players-managers-and-replay-5-000-game/412332001/#
  20. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/the-unexplained-home-runs/ Another juiced ball study discussed on FG, this one with a decent sized dataset of FBs hit at Tropicana from 2015-2017.
  21. FWIW, Gladden's great. He's a dinosaur with analytics, but he has some really keen in-game insights.
  22. From the stretch he'd have to step off the rubber before firing home. I'm 99% sure, maybe an ump (Spinowner) could pipe up to confirm.
