  1. Interesting article, but I don't see what a Larnach trade has to do with Lopez. The fact is they can't replace Lopez. There is no available free agent as good as Lopez and Larnach has little trade value. As others alluded to above, the Twins have a large stable of young starters. It's time to see who can play and who can't.
  2. Agreed. I would move Festa to the pen in any event. They are missing a big power arm at the end. Maybe Festa can be that guy.
  3. If it is unrelated, then when did the injury occur? Does anyone actually believe it happened on the first day of squad workouts? Even the Twins aren't that unlucky. This just sucks. To all the young guys vying for a spot in the rotation, now is your chance to show us what you got.
  4. According to Cot's it's $7 million guaranteed when you include the buyout for 2027.
  5. Was Bell even a good addition at $7 million? Ty France just signed a minor league deal, and he can actually play first base. I'm not saying they had the choice of either or, we all know things never work that way in the off-season. But was there a bidding war for Bell's services? Couldn't that money have been better spent?
  6. I want this team to succeed. I'm willing to give Tom Pohlad and Mr. Zoll the benefit of the doubt for at least a little while. They can't possibly be worse than what preceded them. In Tom Pohlad's case, honest answers would go a long way. The fans aren't stupid and we're tired of the corporate double speak. If the team is losing money just say so. No more "right sizing" the payroll and trading away veterans with no explanation and no communication of a plan.
  7. I assume they will carry eight relievers, so in theory they could have Funderburk, Banda, Rogers, and Chafin all on the roster. I think that's unlikely, but not the craziest roster management I've seen. No way they part with Funderburk.
  8. I understand the concerns with Stewart's medicals and that the Twins were never going to get a good player in return. In this situation it seems like the Twins would have been better served getting a low level lottery ticket that they wouldn't have to protect for a couple of years. In any event I'm not gonna lose sleep over this one.
  9. Interesting that he could only get a minor league deal. The Twins now certainly have left handed options to choose from. Maybe they can piece a bullpen together.
  10. No one ever mentions Lewis in the shortstop discussions. It was his primary position in the minors and he never really had a chance to be the everyday SS in the majors.
  11. No two-seamer??? Faster is not always better. A two-seamer with a little movement would improve all of his secondary offerings. Ask Brad Radke.
  12. I like the open concept in the main living area.
  13. I'm just concerned he's another DaShawn Keirsey. Good minor league numbers that don't carry over to the majors. Given the number of left handed outfielders in the system, I don't see where he fits in. Like Keirsey, the Twins will probably stash him at St. Paul until he's out of options and then cut him loose.
  14. I grew up in the late 70's and early 80's. The baby blues are symbolic of defeat.
  15. But is he good enough to make our bullpen? Would you take him over Adams, Klein, or Festa? I don't think I would. I guess some competition wouldn't hurt, although if they add someone else it means someone will need to be DFA'd.
  16. I don't see how he's an improvement over any pitcher currently on the roster, which makes me wonder what the plan is. I guess they can try and sneak him through waivers.
  17. I really don't know why they want to use up a spot on the 40 man for this guy.
  18. I think this roster projection is very close to what we'll see on opening day. With one exception, I think it makes sense. My one disagreement is that I don't see how they can hide Kreidler on this roster. All of the infield bats are suspect. They just can't afford to carry a glove first utility guy who will turn into a giant hole in the lineup during the later innings. They gotta bring someone else into camp via free agency or trade. If not, I would probably go with Gray. They also need another reliable bullpen arm, but there just isn't anyone else available on the market at this point, unless they swing a trade. Given who's in the organization right now, I agree with this projection of the bullpen.
  19. They can have the greatest rotation in the world, but it won't matter one bit if they can't hold leads in the late innings. I'm always receptive to out of the box thinking, but I just don't see a fit between Valdez and the Twins.
  20. Am surprised no one has mentioned the Joey Gallo signing yet. Sometimes you bring in a guy who's been struggling in the hopes he'll turn things around. In Gallo's case, not only had he been struggling for several years, but the Twins gave him ELEVEN MILLION DOLLARS. Let me repeat that...ELEVEN MILLION. And when it was clear he was toast the Twins kept giving him at bats.
  21. The Correa extension should definitely be among the five worst. Given that so much of his value was tied up in his defense, there had to be concern that he was not going to age well. Him signing that first contract and then exercising the opt out was the best scenario for the Twins. They should have quit while they were ahead.
  22. Whatever happened, the ownership/front office dynamics have created a mess. The bullpen, which was a strength, is now a glaring weakness. For some reason we have a collection of questionable left-handed hitting outfielders. We have no certainty at any infield positions. Maybe it's not all Falvey 's fault. Maybe the ownership gave conflicting directives on payroll. But at the end of the day Falvey has to execute within those constraints, and I just find it harder and harder to find method to his madness. My only complaint about his firing is that it should have happened at the same time as Rocco.
  23. This is what gets an NFL GM fired..... Spending piles of money for a "win now" type roster and handing the QB position to someone who has never played in a regular season game.
