  1. The Twins are NOT going to extend Ryan, nor probably should they with the CBA negotiation looming, his age, and their self-imposed budget. Given that, the real choice is 2 years of Ryan for about $14M and then a comp pick in 2028 vs. whatever value they can return via trade. That is the actual analysis to make.
  2. How about something like: Buxton, Jeffers and Ryan to the Mets for Alvarez, McLean, Benge, Tong, Sproat, Pena, Reimer and Santucci. We get to become part-time Mets fans in the process! :)
  3. 1/3 of the contract is deferred money--the new way to further distort the salary situation. Also saves the player a boat-load of taxes as he can move to Florida or Texas and avoid state income taxes by the time he actually receives the income.
  4. Depends on the deal. He is our best player (not saying that much), but he is frequently injured as is VALUABLE. His contract is modest and he gives another team great value. I mentioned last night that a package of Buxton and Ryan/Lopez to the Mets should garner a huge young talent transfer to the Twins (and save our beloved owners a ton of $). Personally, I love watching him play but if they are going to tear it down, let's do it.
  5. I wonder whether Buxton would waive his NTC to go to the Mets? They need CF badly. Package Buxton and one of the SP's and we could put together a heck of a package coming back.....
  6. "Is there any world where Harmon Killebrew is an option at First Base for the 2026 Twins"? /s
  7. Gives you an idea of what it would cost to extend Joe Ryan. Aint gonna happen here, that is for sure.
  8. I would add whether or not they trade Jeffers. Or they could stun the world and extend him! /s
  9. Gray gets to pitch for a contender. Cardinals had to pay $20M of his remaining contract and got a 26 year old RHSP with an ERA north of 5 and a decent looking Lefty prospect in high A ball. Not an overwhelming return for Gray. Have no idea if this takes the Red Sox out on a potential Ryan trade....
  10. Only thing positive about this move is they moved on from Kiersey. Sorry to be harsh, but he can't hit.
  11. If the Twins trade one of those SP's for Volpe it would be criminal negligence.
  12. 30 year old catcher who is only adequate behind the plate and completely inadequate at the plate. Perfect! World Series here we come! /s Seriously, what is the point of these kind of moves? Whatever you think of Eeles, this guy is going nowhere as a player. Aren't we going to try and go young and see who can play and who can't? We already know the answer on this guy.....
  13. If the Twins cut payroll by moving any combination of Lopez, Ryan or even Buxton, I would like to see a few of the preemptive extensions to players like Jenkins who the Twins FO thinks are prime building blocks for the future.
  14. I want Gonzalez to be up and hitting at MLB, too. There are enough at bats to go around as long as Larnach, Kiersey and the like are moved off of.
  15. Twins extend Ryan? In what alternate universe? First, they wont spend the money. Second, they probably shouldn't as he would be getting paid big $ for his ages 32-3? years. Only big market teams can afford those kind of gambles. It's one thing to sink money into an older veteran position player. It is entirely another to do so for a pitcher who is literally one pitch away from being on the DL with a career-threatening injury. So I don't think it will happen, nor do I think this franchise should do so anyways.
  16. It is certainly possible to have both a hard salary cap and floor and STILL put more money in the Players' collective pockets to make the system acceptable to both sides. Whether there is the collective wisdom to achieve that is another matter, but the basic blueprint from the NFL is there to emulate.....
  17. I actually think Buxton has the highest trade value--assuming he waived his no trade clause. He had a terrific year, was relatively healthy, and is cheap! I do agree that Ryan is likely to be traded, and I hope they get some very, very good talent back for him.
  18. This thing may drag on so long that Falvey will be effectively paralyzed from making any significant moves until FA is 2/3'rds over and other teams have made the trades they want to make. Sheesh, do we have a mess for ownership for the hometown 9.....
  19. hitterscount, I would surely swap our lineup for Oaklands right now, in a heartbeat. I don't care where they are playing.
  20. Can the answer be: None of the Above? Sure, Lewis and Wallner COULD be part of our core going forward, but they are in prove it years as far as I am concerned. Lee is almost in the same boat, at least until Culpepper is ready to get his chance. Ober is ok, and he is likely worth his arb number but does not move the needle much beyond that. Sands has some promise, but, again, has this year to show what he can do out of the 'pen. This should be, as far as I am concerned, a Year of the Youngsters. Get them all out and up here, play them, and see what we have. Trade Ryan and possibly Lopez for more young players and see if we can form a true core of good players. The A's have seemingly done that; we can to with luck and skill.
  21. Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't Clemons a FA? The Twins may re-sign him, but we don't "have" him as of today, do we?
  22. MLB Trade Rumors posted that the O's want and need SP at the front of the rotation. Twins could potentially move either or both of Lopez and Ryan. O's top prospect is the interesting Samuel Basallo. LH hitter with tons of contact and power. Defensively he is a big young man who can play 1B and C, although he needs work on the C apparently. If the Twins retain Jeffers, he could be the 2nd C and otherwise play 1B as his power and hitting justifies 1B. Does this make any sense for both teams? (This is not the whole package, just framework for a deal).
  23. I have zero problem taking an elite college pitcher. Ask the Blue Jays about Yesevage or the Pirates about Skiens..... Getting a young stud SP is always good......
  24. Article on mlbtraderumors discusses that the Giants owner wants to add starting pitching. But he doesn't want a multi year big FA commitment for SP. So Ryan would appear to be a perfect fit for them. Eldridge is the kind of young promising piece the Twins should be looking for. Playing off the Giants vs. the Red Sox (and potentially the Mets and Yankees) should generate a good offer for Ryan if they want to move him.
  25. The more I think about it, the more I believe the Twins will trade Ryan and keep Lopez as a veteran, calm presence to anchor their other young pitchers. They can always move him at the deadline if they are out of contention. By all accounts Lopez is a consummate professional and a credit to the team. I wish him all success. (This all assumes someone does not offer a massive overpay for Lopez that the Twins cannot resist.)
