  1. I think it is obvious, but you are also conflated two things in your previous comments. For example, your last post Most religious leaders do say this (or some variation) constantly and repeatedly. They are also not part of the political realm, and media is not going out of its way to give it a platform. I'm not even upset about that because it really doesn't matter. I'm not even that upset with political "Christians" either. People are going to do what they feel they need to do to win elections and gather up power. That's human nature. There really truly is a battle within the church in all of this that is happening just below the surface. I'm a huge proponent of separation of church and state, because trying to mold together the two corrupts both, and the church most especially. I think you'd be quite surprised at the number/percent of Christians that feel the same way. They may be passionate about politics and desire a certain candidate, but they want no part of it in their church.
  2. I would be careful with saying "most" here, unless you are specifically talking about people in the political realm.
  3. I completely agree. But I do differentiate between a candidate who is almost certainly pandering, and a religious leader who endorses a certain candidate and the reasons that they cite. That said, the best religious leaders are people we haven't heard of because they don't bother with this nonsense.
  4. Let's make a list of all the actual prospects that Punto blocked. It's a very short list.
  5. My favorite all time memory of Punto is him sliding headfirst into first base on a foul bunt.
  6. I would be leery of lumping everyone on the right wing together. Falwell is a special kind of amazing. As someone who personally cares about the church, I am thankful that Trump, for everything else he has done this past year, has at least lured out the true religious charlatans.
  7. I think the Obama steam is very fringe, no chance. I stand by my prediction that Obama nominates a competent, slightly liberal moderate and there is a lot of huffing, puffing and gnashing of teeth but the nominee is eventually confirmed with no filibuster. I think the Republicans came out strong initially, but the cold political calculus will be too strong a force to reject a competent nominee outright.
  8. Would you prefer a spending pool or just a free-for-all free agency? Because the latter would be a disaster for baseball in my mind.
  9. Teams will be penalized in the first draft, they aren't getting off free. That said, I would like to see the Twins jump in and blow past the budget. Early stories seemed promising but haven't heard as much steam recently, which is a little discouraging.
  10. I agree. And I think you can look at the end of his season in Rochester and have some cautious optimism for this year.
  11. What also can happen is a hs student can do basic the summer before senior year and then start their specialty training right after graduation. Split it up a little. Or at least they used to be able to do that.
  12. I generally like the strategy of a couple guys in the 800k-1.5 mil range and the several low 6 figure guys, but if you really like a guy nothing wrong with going for it on occasion. As you said, it is out of character, and something that people call for them them to do in major league free agency. And if there is one place the Twins absolutely deserve the benefit of the doubt, it's international free agency.
  13. I think this would be less hard if there 5 other guys that were performing fine (if not better), which I anticipate there will be.
  14. This would be my 25 too at the moment, though I think Pressly has a really good chance to break camp over Tonkin or someone else. Not likely those 12 pitchers all make it through spring training healthy anyways.
  15. I used to pay but stopped. I think you get just as good (or better) rankings/capsules for free from mlb.com. I pay for BA Prospect Handbook - don't like their rankings as much on the top end (which are free anyways), but much more thorough in their breakdowns/information throughout, especially beyond the top 10s.
  16. I might be picking nits, you are probably talking a standard deviation confidence range or the like, but floor does get thrown around way too optimistically for pitchers.
  17. I agree that is the highest likelihood outcome for Jay if he doesn't become a starter, but his floor not pitching in the bigs, or maybe being an up and down type guy. Stewart has a much more likely floor of never pitching in the bigs.
  18. Here is his b-ref page: http://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.cgi?id=bass--002ran If someone put up a line like that today people would be going crazy he wasn't up halfway through the first AAA season. Probably couldn't catch up to a mlb fastball, right?
  19. Way too high on all the floors, especially Stewart and Jay.
  20. I'm not a strong advocate for this, but does seem to be a next logical step to protect teams a little bit and provide added disincentive to juice. I also suspect the player's union wouldn't go for it and could be more a problem than a good thing for increased and more thorough testing going forward. I'm probably a little more advocating this because the Twins got especially hosed by a juicer. Your point about being a free agent again is good, but also would help explain why it just wouldn't happen all that often.
  21. I think the number of situations that would result in a voided contract are really small. Perhaps only Santana and A-Rod in recent memory. And it would require an additional step of appeals.
  22. And a nice note on Jake Reed too.
  23. They live in Minnesota (though they also have a house in Florida). I'll leave the other speculation to you guys.
