  1. Is it the wrong attitude to say this Republican primary gets more awesome by the day? I know Trump is Trump, but it's not like he's any worse than Rubio or Cruz, so really what difference does it ultimately make? Hopefully they can blow up this whole party in the process.
  2. I also think there is a significant percentage of people that would just like to learn more about the analytics but aren't served too well by either this continual argument or (more especially) poor use of analytics
  3. I personally would prefer using better analytics than WAR, but I digress. I don't think you have to look very far to see how people grasp on to the small part that is wrong/misleading to try and discredit the entire system. It happens in everything.
  4. I just don't see what "the worst" is for a corner outfielder that has people so worried. If he gives up a few plays because of some hesitancy or so he doesn't get hurt that strikes me as an acceptable tradeoff. He'd miss more plays as a below average 3B. I think overall people are underrating the fact that Sano is a pretty decent athlete and the fact he is going to DH quite a bit. I think he'll be about what we saw out of Arcia, probably even a little better because of the arm. Yes you would want a better defender, but it isn't an atrocity and you live with it because of the bat.
  5. Many more people than you apparently want to admit.
  6. Or at least a footnote acknowledging it is a silly stat to take literally.
  7. Using analytics better. Being more humble in conclusions and emphasizing the limitations.
  8. I would say when the eye test is invoked and clearly ridiculous that your first point is taken care of plenty well. If analytics are used well I don't think you see much pushback.
  9. Indeed. The debate on analytics is basically over, to me the next big step from the media and the stronger advocates will be to take a step back and better explain the limitations. Drawing really strong conclusions from clearly flawed numbers is going to result in pushback and (wrongly) throw much of the rest of the data into question.
  10. I guess I'm not expecting Jason Heyward either. I don't expect a ton of range and he'll have some hesitancy around the walls, but he'll make most of the plays and have a cannon. I expect people to massively overreact to the occasional misplay, but overall it will mostly a non-story. Or he'll run over Buxton and break him in half.
  11. I predict on opening day he will be wearing his glove as a hat and only be wearing one shoe.
  12. I generally agree. I think this is the year that excuse should be put completely to bed. 2 full years in the system is enough.
  13. A journeyman might be a success for the individual but that would be a miss for the team. I would personally say that if starts for the Twins for 6 years at a #4 starter level (or pitches better for fewer years and blows out) or becomes at least a setupan in the pen, that would be the minimum needed to call it a successful pick.
  14. I would too - to manage innings as much as save future money.
  15. Top pitcher and hitter in the league, not bad. I thought Law (and Buster Olney) made an interesting point on their podcast - despite some of the complaints we hear on the board and elsewhere in local media - the Twins really are among the most aggressive teams in getting prospects to the majors and in not worrying about service time. I wonder if that will make a difference with Berrios.
  16. Those 3 started 5 games together last year.
  17. Good optimism from Gammons:
  18. OF is much easier than 3B.
  19. I don't know, they did more or less announce it in November, so I assume it was probably strongly considered for a while before that. My speculation would be maybe there just wasn't consensus for a while and they wanted to exhaust all options. If he could stick at 3B at all he would obviously have more value. I would have had him play OF the second half of last year personally.
  20. That was my theory too, but maybe they were actually telling the truth when they said they never shopped Plouffe because they never intended on having Sano play third.
  21. I think their actions clearly show they don't think he play third.
  22. It was first decided in November. Earlier than that?
  23. Earlier than the start of spring training?
  24. Reminds me of the apocryphal quote about Americans- They always do the right thing after they've exhausted all other options.
  25. That I won't be able to produce without more work than I'm able to do. But certainly a fair point, it is possible those opportunities didn't exist.
