  1. I would certainly drop Strong for Friedrich. If Strong clears it gives the Twins yet another arm to evaluate.
  2. I thought Polanco might make more sense, not sure if that was considered from either end.
  3. My initial thought is make sure Kepler is good and then figure it out. If he explodes on the scene then it probably will be Plouffe that goes. But certainly no guarantee that Rosario or Park will be everyday guys or that Mauer will stay healthy. Good having some depth and flexibility. And yes, I imagine the baseline plan is LF two years, 3B for a year or two, then move over to 1B. A very logical progression for his skill set.
  4. Obviously these are impossible questions to answer. But the team won 13 more games, exceeded expectations, and almost every player and field staff member gave credit to Hunter. I'll take the easy route and believe them.
  5. Two years of a reliever with some elbow questions for four years of an everyday guy with foot problems. I'll bet on everyday guy and years. I imagine it would have taken Kepler.
  6. Quite confident they checked in, not sure if it progressed much, and glad it didn't - I wouldn't want them to match that package. Good trade for the Rays.
  7. I just don't see how a season or two in the OF makes it impossible for Sano to move back to 3B or 1B. There is enough talent coming up that flexibility is a good thing, and let the players sort it out. Perfectly acceptable way to start the season, and has the benefit of keeping as many good bats in the lineup as possible.
  8. And maybe Hunter had an impact on the team that is not completely captured by WAR. If his teammates say something, maybe it is actually true. It seems Hunter gave the time what they needed, when they needed it, for as long as they needed it. And it was great for everyone that he rode off into the sunset.
  9. If you don't count the fact he got hit and then injured, Pressly had a great year! I'm actually relatively high on him, I expect a pretty good season, rendering a lot of the consternation about relievers moot.
  10. Unless they don't trust McGee's medicals, I'm pretty sure the Twins would have traded Arcia for him. If I'm the Rays I would rather have Dickerson in a heartbeat. How's that for a narrative?
  11. After the trade the Rockies DFAed Christian Friedrich. I would take a shot on him. His numbers are pretty brutal, but he does significantly better against lefties and significantly better on the road. Maybe a change of scenery could lead to a rebound. He had first round pedigree, and I think he has plenty of stuff from when I watched him.
  12. They other thing I would add is that his TJ surgery and delayed debut make this a little bit of a unique case, could make it more of a discount than we might think.
  13. I think they think they are competitors too, haven't found a reliever deal they liked.
  14. Which is probably why they have signed Nolasco, Hughes and Santana in that time. Almost $180 mil.
  15. I think pitchers are different than position players in this type of contract. A team taking on risk by guaranteeing 4 years can buy an option cheaper than it would for someone like Dozier.
  16. I agree, I don't get this at all for Rockies (depending on the other pitchers of course). I thought McGee was the perfect guy for the Twins to target, but don't think they could have matched Dickerson.
  17. I have two big things for the next President: 1. Will they be extremely hesitant to send ground troops again to the Middle East? 2. Will they avoid the temptation to inflate an asset bubble to jump start the economy (while acknowledging this isn't 100% about the President, but economic priorities will say something)? As of now I only really think Clinton, Bush, Kasich and Christie will qualify, but that list could certainly shrink.
  18. I would say the Twins are wise to be a little conservative in avoiding locking up too much money more than 4 years down the line. If everything shakes out as hoped they will be looking to lock up two elite guys and several other good players, they will need space for that. They could do some short term stuff in the interim, but they aren't getting high end free agents on short years.
  19. So the Twins were 18 last year and (about) 17 this year. I assume that means you are relatively pleased with the amount, if not necessarily the distribution?
  20. I think it could be higher than $3-4 mil higher. I don't think that gets much of a reliever.
  21. Would anyone consider an extension for Gibson? He is last year pre-arb this year, followed by the 3 arb years and free agency. 28 now, would be 32 when he hits free agency. Would probably do a 4 year deal with an option buying out the first free agent year. If he makes the leap would be a nice bargain going forward, if he stays solid it would be fine, if he regresses/gets hurt would be a loss.
  22. Foreign policy for me. Same reason I can't support Cruz, Trump or Rubio.
  23. It is a good class, but is driven by a uniquely good group of in state talent. Will be interesting to see if they can rebound with a better year next year on the field (I think they can) and keep some momentum going with recruiting outside the state. When Kill retired there was always going to be an impact, the key is to make sure it doesn't extend past this season.
  24. Mlb and nfl are slightly different in how enthusiastically they pursue peds.
  25. Carl Pohlad is dead. Has been for a while. Are you going to forever hold the son accountable for the sins of the father? Jim sets a budget, gets out of the way, and gives the occasional charisma-less interview.
