1. This guy doesn't have a clear argument, he just jumped into being ridiculousness with both feet and is trying to figure out how to swim. Tell me, how much would you pay for Ryan Rayburn? Or Brent Lillibridge? I can probably come up with many more examples. This is what Danny Valencia is. He's about as valuable as the rest of the AAA filler like Slama that your initial post said could be bundled together for a quality player.
2. If Adelman gets all the credit for the turnaround, then he also gets all the blame for some wheels just spinning.
3. Yeah, he's right - Adelman does need to be able to coach these guys into the rotation.
4. He was BRILLIANT in 2010. Made a believer out of me and had me going into 2011 excited that we had our Frankie back. Then 2011 happened. There is nothing but speculation to the idea that Frankie would accept a team friendly deal. And while some like to throw around "prove the negative" fallacies to answer that charge, it's nevertheless true. There is virtually no reason for Frankie to take a discounted deal at this point. And, to me, anything more than an incentive laden deal with minimal guaranteed money is a bad investment. Just because you have money doesn't mean you have to feel compelled to spend it on high risk bets.
5. Um yes - Valencia has zero trade value at this point. He was demoted from one of the worst teams in baseball because he couldn't hit or field. Someone would take him for nothing, but they're not giving up something quality for him. Oliveros has some value, but not enough for what you're suggesting. Bullock was a much different case than Anthony Slama or Kyle Waldrop. Your argument is ridiculous.
6. Government has plenty of incentives to screw people over. They're just better at covering it up and have the legal authority to do so. Insider trading is a good example. Government power is best limited. That doesn't mean you have to let corporations run the world - there is a middle ground.
7. Valencia is a good example for why we cant get ahead of ourselves. He has been extremely encouraging at the plate and in the field. With how fast this came on and how ir bucks the trend on his entire minors career we have to be cautious. Lets hope this keeps up.
8. It still irritates me so much that this team has good speed and yet can't seem to steal a base when it matters. This just has to be a Gardy thing.
9. Agree with much of this - I've limited my responses mostly to Psuedo because he's a little more left than I think he realizes. Especially in terms of legislation/government structure. Though I appreciate his more moderate stance on many other things. While I agree that the main issues are the "entitlement" spending programs, the welfare approach to social problems is dragging down the country in really profound ways. From student loans, to child care and medical benefits, to tax breaks - there are so many ways that people can (and do) manipulate the system to do less and get more - that we're screwed unless we fix this. As I used to say on (Hmmm...elysian fields is taken....Avalon work?) it makes more sense in many ways to be in the lower class than it does in the middle class in this country. You work less and have roughly the same standard of living. That's a huge problem. I can't overstate how enormous that problem is to setting things right. I generally like your points below though.
10.

2011 MIN 26 24 9 10 0 0 0 1 1 134.1 125 81 76 14 75 112 5.09 1.49 .249

Frontline baby. Frontline.
11. Great trade value if we can get some GMs to join the cult. Those numbers look a lot like the last time he "turned the corner" in 2010. Then 2011 happened.
12. Effectively wild tonight, but probably still enough to build some more trade value.
13. So rather than acknowledge you overstated your argument to the point of ridiculousness....you double down? Heh.
14. The Cult of Liriano scores games differently. It's currently 2-2. Liriano's Ks-Runs Scored Against. You're not properly valuing our stud frontliner.
15. I'm not opposed to it, because it is a better use of the funds. The problem is that people may be content to keep those jobs rather than seeking out full employment. The left-wing dependency state that has been built in this country is built on solutions like this that aren't thought through all the way. It could work and I would welcome it as temporary solution along with more temporary benefits. I've always thought unemployment should come with some form of skill building/education after a certain period of time as well. Whatever it takes so that it's not so exploitable.
16. The government cannot and will not jump start the economy. It's simply too large a task for such bureaucracy to handle. Large number of public tasks do need to be completed, in fact they were "shovel ready", how'd that turn out? There is one major advantage to leaning on the private sector - they almost always prioritize the need to make money which does lead to economic revitalization. The government's motives aren't always to make money as evidenced by the above example. The problem isn't that we need more tax breaks, it's that the tax breaks need to be better oriented to job creation rather than blanket tax breaks as glunn said. We also need to put the banking industry back in the business of lending money as their primary vehicle of profit rather than the current mega-bank model. (Glass-Steagall Act again)
17. While we are skewed too far one way, it is true that you can restrain economics by over-regulation and taxation. Once again we come back to the stupidity of going too far either way.
18. So you plan to convince a 36 year old career NL pitcher to come to the AL's worst team and then convince Marcum to join the same awful AL team? Yeah I'm sure we will be the highlight team for both of them. If we get Marcum I'd be happy but more than that is unlikely at best.
19. Yeah, our BYTO wishlist from the Angel's glut at a few positions would look really nice right now.
20. Bastard. I just made a cartoon-esque saddy-face reading that.
21. Well, I guess Capps could wander out of the bullpen and stab Willingham. That's about all he has left to frustrate us with right?
22. At this point...what haven't we complained about already? It's so frustrating we won't be able to deal this loser in the next week.
23. Going forward we can be concerned about the health of Mauer, the health and age of Willingham, the fact that Plouffe's June is highly unlikely, Revere's walk rate and BABIP, Carroll's June spike, and Doumit's .800 OPS June. Just cherry-picking one month to project a year or more in the future is rife with potential problems. Could all those things maintain? Absolutely, and I hope many of them do. But this team is still facing a major pitching shortage for the next few years and banking on sinking 100-200 million dollars to fix that in the offseason is ludicrous. Everyone is always looking for pitching, it's not like we'll have the market cornered.
24. Didn't you hear? We can combo Waldrop, Slama, and a few other AAA filler for a quality guy!
25. Well said. Not only that, but neither party will get behind the idea of restoring the Glass-Steagall Act which just makes too much damn sense. The middle class is being pounded on by both left-wing and right-wing nonsense constantly.
