  1. I wont hold against him that the majority of these were against baseball's worst offenses - he's been very good. But the "april doesnt count" bit is just a bit. They do count and Liriano's full season stats are still mediocre to subpar on the season. 2010 was far more impressive than this and how did he follow that?
  2. I dont know about the last five years, but you can pretty much pick your stat in 2009 and 2011 and he's one of the worst in baseball. Hell even Blacky had a K/9 better or similar which is supposedly the main reason to resign him.
  3. I typed something realistic and not obnoxiously fanboyish!!! OH MY GOD !!! We can't have that on the sire.
  4. By all means if I ever become a bubblegum chewing, cheerleading, reality denying schmuck about anyone feel free to hop on me for it. In the meantime recognize that and try and see how gooberish that is. Hell i hate Liriano but can still tip my cap at his success. Just the over-the-top apologist routine is so dumb.
  5. It was a great effort. Hyperventilating over a non-catch starts to look silly - it reveals that you're looking for his successes only and not his failures. That non-catch was not a failure, but he has many other failing aspects of his game that are concerning. He's having a hell of a 2012 though, I hope it continues to trend upward.
  6. Ben Revere....leading the league in Magical Almosts
  7. Can we play "in his previous" a bit further back? Apparently Liriano is a master of inspiring the Availability Heuristic.....
  8. Huzzah trade value....keep going buddy. Just a few more weeks before your wheels fall off again.
  9. So 8 games in July and we make Pedroia comps? Yowza.
  10. His lawyer said the cops/bouncers were all black and hispanic. But the charge is pretty backwards as Kobs points out. Has to be something he did to be arrested in order to resist.
  11. We agree there. Too much to hope Baltimore tries to go for those WC spots and ships out Matusz for him? Probably dreaming.....
  12. Hence the beauty of having Revere/Span there. Span's team control is ongoing for quite some time and his value will still be there. Willingham's value is only going to plummet from here. I get the appeals of keeping him, but I don't think it's impossible we could find a strong suitor for him. For instance, Baltimore could really use some help in the corner OF spots. Ditto the Mets, Pirates, and Dodgers. I'd argue we could get a solid young pitcher from any of those teams that would be worth pulling the trigger.
  13. Well if we address one of the starter spots with trading Span than it takes him off the team control list. Nit-picky but worth noting that we would have a corner outfield spot to fill. But, to be honest, I'd much rather see us shop Willingham than Span. If you can get a similar package for Hammer as Span, it would make much more long-term sense for the team. And at this pace, I think Hammer's value is about as high as it will ever be at the end of this month. These next few months are going to tell a lot about what hopes we can have going forward.
  14. You're getting a bad case of VD buddy. And not the usual kind.....
  15. You dressed your original post in a bunch of legal nonsense and excusatory drivel. The results were completely driven by you.
  16. So he can do what he wants? And all anyone else is saying is "if he can do what he wants, he should spend more money" You just overly complicated a very simple issue. You think it's unfair to criticize him for not going beyond the business revenue on player salaries because then it dips into his non-baseball wealth. Fine - all this other stuff was a giant cluster-funk that turned this thread into an obnoxious series of puffy nonsense.
  17. Really, it was only a matter of time before we heard the "Plouffe to second!" arguments come back. He's had a heck of a run here, but he's got a lot to prove to stay a part of this team's future. Two years ago we were saying the similar things about Valencia so people shouldn't get too far ahead of themselves. He's comfortable at third and hitting, let's not mess with that success. Putting him at a position he's never played or one that he was never that great of a fit for in the first place would be incredibly stupid.
  18. 2006 doesn't count towards his future. He was a different pitcher. We can hope for 2010 again but 2006 is never coming back. I too look back fondly on what might have been, but it's done and buried. I don't even count 2008 for/against him because his numbers are very erratic. Some numbers are good, others not. The problem with Frankie is that any extension 8M+ is bordering on taking up 8-10% of the payroll for a guy that has been awful more often than he's been good lately. If you want to toss him a contract with less than 3M in base salary and heavy incentives - fine. I have no problem paying him like an ace if he pitches like one. But guaranteeing him a significant chunk of the team payroll is a bad bet.
  19. You realize due to a major injury that only one of these two counts as a valid season? I've always given him credit for 2010. When I say 2.5 of the last 3.5 have been awful...the one that wasn't was 2010. The rest is awful.
  20. Nice. I read over a chunk of it. I'm encouraged by the kid. It would help this team a lot if he could play center. Though I'm a big fan of this team going after Getzlaf in 2013 if he hits the market. Or trade and resign him with the money we're shedding.
  21. Like I said - pure hope. This is borderline some kind of religious faith. Reality is that he hasn't even been average. He's been a poor to awful pitcher for most of the last 3+ seasons. I completely relate to the frustration of not having more top-end arms. But pretending Liriano is a top-end arm is just delusion. You're making him into something he's not because the team has no top-end pitching. If we're going to sink close to 10M+ into a pitcher, let's at least shoot for a guy whose performance actually reflects a top-end pitcher. It just boggles my mind that people hang on to this delusion about Liriano when the stats/reality say he hasn't even been as good as Carl Pavano over the last three years. You could argue, at best, that they're a wash. If someone was suggesting the same things in this thread about Carl Pavano we'd call them a lunatic - yet that's exactly what we're doing. And it's out of nothing more than blind hope.
  22. There is a FAR greater chance we just wasted 20 million. Just because you have the money doesn't mean you toss it at someone who is statistically a bad bet. If you haven't noticed, all the Liriano cheerleaders avoid posting statistics. The reason being? For roughly 2.5 of the last 3.5 seasons he's been one of the worst starters in all of baseball by most any statistical measure. You're welcome to hope he outperforms - just don't think you have much reason for doing so. Then your argument is more about what the Twins don't have rather than what Liriano actually is.
  23. Well, that much is true. Hard for him to get much worse than he has been for 2.5 of the last 3.5 seasons - nowhere to go but up, even if slightly! Have you looked at Liriano's stats though? He's been nothing close to an ace. Even in 2010 you could argue his peripheral stats were ace-like, but many of his other stats were not. I can understand the argument that says we should a purely incentivized contract at him. I can even understand tossing him a one year 12.5M in hopes of a pick and because we have a bunch of money coming off next year. But guaranteeing this roller coaster three years and 20+? No logical defense for that. Pure irrational hope and nothing more.
  24. It's not on Fox Sports North for you?
  25. 26 pages in that thread Joe...was there something in particular?
