  1. Well, good thing we're all being consistent here. Thought we sucked and it didn't matter? Let 'em work it out? No?
  2. I've been as down on him as anyone, still am probably more pessimistic than many, but his approach doesn't look like a fluke. He looks like he knows exactly what he is doing. I'm not convinced yet, but the line-drives and more solid contact seems to be vastly improved. Like they said on the broadcast - really want to see that walk rate improve if he can. Would live to see him swipe bases a bit more often too. Not sure if he's on a leash or not.
  3. Yeah, Mauer, Burton, and Revere belong here too. Revere has really shown some impressive improvements in his plate approach this year. I'd put Perkins on this list too, mostly because there was part of me that still thought last year was a mirage. But nothing mirage about him - the guy absolutely throws gas.
  4. I think I heard Pseudo's head explode reading that.....
  5. It's a cop-out answer. It's like seeing someone abuse their child and saying "That's not ok" only for them to retort that you've never been a parent so who are you to tell them it's not ok. It's an automatic fail argument and it sounds really juvenile and stupid. Even in the context of this argument there were far better ways to acknowledge the human element.
  6. This is an excellent demonstration on the role of data really. I think everyone can acknowledge the human element of the game, the problem is that data is far less transferable, reliable, or comparable as a means of evaluation. The weaknesses and strengths are purely subjective in anecdotal and isolated data. That doesn't mean statistics are the game or the only viable source of information, but they are a far more robust and reliable form of data. Resorting to "if you didn't lace em up you don't understand" arguments sounds like one step short of threatening the size of one's father. It's pretty friggin stupid.
  7. Declining the option + the way he was treated medically = my thinking.
  8. If declining the option doesn't burn the bridge, I'd prefer Baker over Liriano. I just trust the make-up and the consistency more. I guess I'll take the devil I don't know in this case (TJ surgery) over the devil I'm done with.
  9. I think he almost certainly gets more than this. I would guess he'll get a base salary closer to 3 with incentives going up from there. Pitching is hard to come by and Scott Baker was a very good pitcher prior to injury. I'd like to see them offer him a three year deal, but I also question if declining the option won't finish burning that bridge.
  10. You mentioned how it is short-sighted to build a stadium for your current team. I'd argue it was equally short-sighted to acquiesce to your current roster and start mixing up the park to appease them when they start complaining to the public after one year.
  11. The hype sounds awesome...I guess I'm just tempering my expectations. Maybe the Wild have crushed my inner-enthusiasm more than I thought the last ten years. I'm a big Phillips guy though, love his potential as a Brad Richards-type. Good skill comp ceiling ya think?
  12. Well yeah...it's the anti-Duensing of Minnesota Twins trading. No one can compare to his trade value.
  13. Woohoo for this migrating with us!
  14. I think Croyle is a candidate for sure. It's hard to say on Granlund...I worry about the reports that he has slow foot speed. I'm also a big believer in Scandella - I think he's going to be a top 4 defenseman in this league, but I admit I don't have much to go on with that. This team should sniff the playoffs, but it still needs quite a bit more scoring help.
  15. I think they're just waiting for something to get behind. Even the inkling of the playoffs would bring them back. But I agree that the team is struggling to stay relevant. I just think a weak FA class is a bad time to start unloading money, because they will end up way overpaying these guys.
  16. To be honest, I wonder if this is really the best time for the Wild to be splashing like this anyway. I'd almost rather they wait until Backstrom's deal is off the cap and we could take a run at guys like Perry, Getzlaf, Fisher, Roy, etc. If they both come here that's great - they are losing a ton of money next season with Bouchard and Backstrom gone, but this team's bright future isn't for a few years at least. (If at all...)
  17. Quotes cannot be slant. A direct quote is not slant. Taking a quote, verbatim, and presenting it is not slant. You can't dismiss it. You can present counter-evidence. You can present further context. You can even present blood-intoxication results. But you can't dismiss the quote itself, only argue about interpretation. Hence why you were wrong to say: Please go on and explain how his 101 PA in AAA and one extra base hit transformed him into the beautiful MLB swan today. What I said numerous times was "he attributes" "he said" etc. You seem to believe that "quotes = interpretations" with no ability to discern one from the other. I'd just advise that you try, because you're being unnecessarily confrontational based on that fundamental misunderstanding. Oh and when can we "Weasel Baby" us some Ben Revere word filter style?
  18. Nope it's cool. Jokin hit on it later in the thread - it's the organization pulling the trees, it's TR saying they are changing their draft style for the field, it's Dick, Bert, Coomer, Gladden, etc. all mentioning what a bad hitter's park it is every time they are broadcasting, and I could go on. It sounds like validating an excuse. And it sounds like some Twins are buying into that excuse. As you rightly said - it seems like a lot of short-sighted complaints and unusually loud squawking to the press for it to sit right with me.
  19. That's fine. Remarks like that are open to be interpreted to a degree. I can see how someone would label it crying - some of the language by the Twins players is a bit "ridiculous" to use one of their own terms. Removing the trees seemed a bit petty considering lots of parks have CF attractions. And there is something to the way the organizational mouth-pieces keep repeating the same complaints. At the same time, this park is not good for left-handed pull hitters or a guy like Mauer. So I understand their frustration. I'm not sure I'd label it crying, but I am bothered by how much it is being used as a crutch.
  20. That wasn't my point. You made that my point and then argued it. Classic strawman. (go ahead, go back and read it. I never made any such claim - I said he worked on some things and came back better. That strawman was all you.) Which is exactly what you're doing here as well. Someone posted quotes. You can call them slanted or put your own spin on it - but they're quotes. You don't refute them just because you wave a magic wand and say "I don't believe it!" Which is exactly what you've done. At best it's bad form in a discussion. If I thought you were doing it intentionally I'd call it trolling. Essentially that's what it amounts to though. If you'd like to provide more context to those quotes to prove your claim - I'd be interested to hear it. If you don't have that, then put the magic wand away and stop dismissing them. I think several players on the team have gotten too comfortable with the idea that they can't hit homeruns here. They've let their perception of the difficulty cloud them to the point that it is effecting their play. That bothers me and to that degree I'd say they are far too negatively focused on that aspect of the field.
  21. Everything always has context. It's ok to say "Yeah, they said that. I wonder if there is more context?" If you were honest about your speculation that would be fine. But as you continue to demonstrate - you prefer to dismiss a direct quote in favor on context you are speculating/assuming that you have no evidence for to refute the quote. That's the silly stuff. Speculate away, it's a message board. But if people back up their speculation with direct quotes, you aren't on equal ground with the nonsense of "well there may be more context....". Either provide the context or another quote or acknowledge the quote for what it is. It's basic discourse/logic/argument 101 - you can't dismiss a strong argument (bolstered by a quote) with speculation. It's like refuting fossil records with the Bible. You do a nice job dressing it up like your points are valid - but they're not. They're pigs in prom dresses and that's what you're being called out for.
  22. I tend to agree with Bonnes. If not the wrist, it's something. This happened with the neck injury too. He struggles mightily and then we find out 7-10 days later it was some undisclosed injury.
  23. I've been here a week and it's clear this guy doesn't understand the concept of a quote. I'm sure a butter-knife steak was the real culprit here or something equally as absurd.
  24. That's a valid point of view - I would disagree, but I would accept it as valid. The only thing I would caution is that we're putting the development of this guy in the hands of Gardy who was trained by TK and who has taken a very different approach with similar players - notably Bartlett.
  25. Again, why not say the same for Sano? Arcia? "Fill-in-name-of-other-minor-league-guy"? Yes, Dozier is 25, but he also basically skipped AAA. There is no one in the system coming up anytime soon. He'll have this chance to audition for at least the 2013 season. Why do we feel the need to keep him up even when he's scuffling badly? At what depths of offensive and defensive play do you stop this line of thinking? I'm genuinely curious. He's sub-.600 OPS now for well over a month. He's committing errors at a rate higher than anyone else in the AL. He's had 2 XBH in the last 3 weeks. I still think he can be part of this team's future. We have to look at what's best for Dozier and drop this nonsense about the team's play. The team's play, because it is so bad right now, is totally irrelevant. It isn't a valid justification. I've yet to hear anyone make a solid case for why he should continue to take a beating at this level when we aren't seeing progress.
