  1. Bah, I keep being told how much we need Correia. All this talk about not playing dead-end old guys is lies I say!
  2. Wish I could help more. There is no ability to right click and the ads aren't always the same ones that do it.
  3. I know, just gave me a chuckle to go with the constant malware attacks.
  4. I have no problem with suggesting Hicks has high potential as a fielder, but he wasn't very good last year. Stats like this bug me because they are so silly on their face and yet propped up as meaningful. I can't help but feel most defensive metrics are little better most of the time.
  5. So, if I have this right, 6 plays that were subjectively determined to be "remote" got converted into outs four times and this is grounds to heap praise. im dubious about all small sample sizes and highly dubious of the subjectivity of many defensive stats. This is a double whammy of dubiousity.
  6. Right, but he didn't fully appreciate because he cited several keys parts to the job he hadn't been exposed to. That would be a grooming issue.
  7. What was Antony trying to say if not "This job has a lot more to it than I thought!"? Because he then cited his total inexperience with several vital things to support that idea, that's the issue. It's hard not to take that literally when that was exactly what he was saying. "I haven't done any of these things...so this is a new perspective!"
  8. Man Rocketpig...first your site spreads malware like a cough in a doctor's office and now I'm getting spammed about my phone contracts? The next thing I expect to see is a message from Riverbrian stating he's the King of the Congo and needs me to send him $2,000.
  9. Yup. It's basically subtle confirmation about what some of us have been saying leading up to ST. He doesn't really have a shot. AAA is a foregone conclusion for him. I also read his Deduno comments as making him clearly in third place out of the three. It's essentially Worley vs. Diamond from what I gleaned from this.
  10. I don't think ashbury was reading into it at all. He clearly states he "didn't notice" them. I don't think there is any way to read that but that his job is very narrowly tailored. Which, to Winston Smith's point, may speak to why Smith struggled with some components of the job.
  11. My god, I may need to change my over to an under on that 70 wins. This is one god-awful group. Especially without Arcia.
  12. They also gave him 19 starts at a 7+ ERA before that. So forgive me if I find this example FAR from convincing to put it nicely.
  13. Gardy and his staff have passed over talent for "veteran presence" more than once in the past, so I don't share your confidence. again, I ask, when exactly are they playing their way in? Meaningless ST starts against split squads? I'm genuinely curious when you envision their opportunity is.
  14. The 84M was invested in upside. The second year to Correia was not. Nor would redundantly adding to him on the roster with Saunders or anyone else.
  15. Um...Hughes was a 5+ ERA too last year. Diamond and Worley can't be "substantially improved" if they don't have innings to pitch in. I'm baffled by this notion that "Well, Worley/Diamond/Deduno just need to prove themselves and they will get a chance". Ugh - when exactly are they doing that? Meaningless ST innings? Mop-up innings? Shell-spitting in the dugout? You have to have a spot to show you can keep it or meaningful innings to prove it. Otherwise this is really just hot air. Once the rubber meets the road on this kind of analysis it doesn't work.
  16. Correia is the kind of starter you don't mind having around in AAA or your bullpen if you're the Tigers. For this team? He's irrelevant. He's unlikely to have much value at the deadline and he's not part of the future. So you're investing innings in, essentially, wheel-spinning. We also have Pelfrey, Hughes, Deduno, Diamond, Worley, Swarzak, Duensing, Gilmartin, Kyle Gibson, Trevor May, Kris Johnson, Ryan Pressley, Alex Meyer, Pat Dean, etc. Are some of these guys relievers? Sure, we also have been told they might be stretched out. Some have no options and none belong in AAA. So you're talking about 14/15 guys for 10 spots. Given that finite number of spots these guys can pitch in, adding "more" doesn't mean you get more value. More starters only gives you value if they are clearly better than what you already have. If I'm going to watch another 90 loss team, I'd at least like to get some answers about our roster. Not waste time on someone like Correia, Saunders, Santana or anyone else that is done with this team in October regardless of their performance.
  17. There is a very well written blog article detailing exactly that and this is the thread responding to it. I'm not sure why that needs to be elaborated upon. The Twins have plenty of "meh" pitching. The saying "you can never have enough pitching" is in reference to good pitching. Not roster glut.
  18. Yup, we already have Correia hogging a spot that might better be served to play someone that we can "figure out what you've got". We don't need a couple left-handed Correia's added to the pile too.
  19. Well, the Twins sure seem to think a diversity of personalities is a good thing.
  20. Ha! Yeah, not "you" as in you. But "you" as in "whiney baseball players who hide behind unwritten rules".
  21. Yeah, I read that and had the same response. The guy consistently beats up young player's for their mistakes in the press and gives passes to veterans. It's a major part of his inconsistent expectations. He's entitled to do it if that's what he feels will help. But it completely flies in the face of the notion that he has everyone's back.
  22. Some minimal level is probably impossible to avoid. Significant and consistent inequality? I've certainly seen that avoided. Gardy has entrenched a very inconsistent set of expectations on this team for a very long time. Kelly did too, especially in his latter years. Gardy brings many positives things to the managerial role, but his consistency in treatment and his encouragement of unique personalities is not among them.
  23. Very true, I think quality linebacker play is highly underrated by your average fan. It's also underappreciated as a commodity in the NFL.
  24. This is so salient. Like Gardy or hate him, anyone who suggests his clubhouse rules/expectations have been consistent for all players is simply not dealing in reality. Over his tenure he has always shown a bias against young players and made their path more difficult. Not as bad as Kelly did, but from the same family of management. Just from my experience, I think that's an awful quality in a manager and a tendency that does far more harm to morale than people realize.
  25. Apparently millions of dollars aren't sufficient to assuage your ego because you made a mistake. You have to hit people with 90 mph objects to do that. Or so I've been told thanks to the unwritten rules.
