  1. The Twins should listen to offers, but be in no rush whatsoever.
  2. I once tried to watch the game there with three pillars in my way. The ivy is cute and all, but a shrine? I think the urine saturation of that place long ago left the shrine element in the dust. Just my two cents. I appreciate the history - you can get that on a tour during non-game times. If I want to appreciate the game of baseball, I'll watch somewhere that makes watching it enjoyable.
  3. I don't need bells and whistles, but a legitimate place to get food and go to the bathroom? That's sort of important in my eyes. It's also one of the worst crowds IMO. Too many aging frat boys and people just there to feel important.
  4. Sending Vargas down would've made more sense 2-3 weeks ago when he was scuffling. Now as he's starting to get his groove going is a bit....odd.
  5. I don't think most saw that HR binge continuing. Almost certainly the expectation was for more than what we've seen, but I guess my sense of the fan base was different.
  6. Right, I think it was widely accepted that his season was an outlier before we signed him. Most reasonable people wouldn't set that as his bar for production. But I also think the bar most reasonable people would've set has also been a struggle for him. (In large part due to injury admittedly)
  7. It wasn't just the cleanliness, it was the layout and the convenience of it. It's horribly cramped, almost impossible to get food or drink, tiny aisles and seating areas (which, if you've met your average Chicagoan, doesn't leave much room for the rest of us), and the weather can really alter your experience. I'd honestly prefer the Cell over Wrigley.
  8. I don't find much merit in Souhan's thesis, but I think it's fair to say Mauer has not sustained even pessimistic levels of production that we had hoped for his early 30s seasons. That's the disappointing part, but resigning him was still the only smart choice.
  9. It's really good at comparisons among players at the same position. Especially over longer samples. It's a ridiculously helpful and valuable metric for that. The problem is that it's almost never used that way.
  10. Admittedly 4-5 years ago. Glad to hear it because the stadium was pretty awful in most every respect back then.
  11. UZR doesn't seem to think that. DRS certainly does. They may agree by the end of things but I don't think this argument works right now.
  12. Kauffman is still number one for me. Target Field is 2. Wrigley in the bleachers is special, but Wrigley as an actual ballpark sort of sucks in every other way for me. The Cell/Miller Park/Petco all seemed roughly the same in quality.
  13. I think Plouffe's problem was the angle he had to throw from at SS. But you bring up a good point, you can help an infielder get better with his hands. I should've been more specific talking about outfielders.
  14. I tried googling it but I can't find a place that lists a record of what the pitcher did during their outing. Anyone have a site that tracks that? I was curious to see if Ricky was working backwards more than he had been previously. (It seemed like a lot more off speed pitches last night)
  15. I think most defensive ability that guys possess is a god-given baseline that is really hard to budge. You either got it, or you don't. Arcia definitely doesn't have it.
  16. I will say this, the stuff on display last night from Nolasco was very different than anything I'd seen from him previously with this team. If that continues he might trend the right way.
  17. Wouldn't that make him the shooting guard by default?
  18. I believe you may still be confused about how you misused WAR. In any case, yeah, I'm not seeing anything thus far to see this as sustainable. The lack of strikeouts will catch up to them and I still feel like this bullpen is an implosion waiting to happen. That could seriously mess with the pitching staff if/when it occurs.
  19. I'm curious, if Lavine is so awful at the point (not disputing that) - why does Flip insist on playing him there? We actually cleared the deck to give him minutes there.
  20. So, Molly....you dodged the Boyer bullet twice. Can we stop playing with fire now?
  21. More I thought about this, the more I thought it belonged here: I'll be really curious to see the leg kick in action. As a fan I have two things I want to see from Hicks early and often - the ball getting actually driven and his play in CF looking less like it deserves a Benny Hill soundtrack. Do that and I'll be very excited about his prospects for contributing.

  23. I sincerely hope that he's ready and the Twins are ready for him.
  24. You're right, they may once again have it screwed up. But at least it's a different kind of screw-up I guess if that's the case. But neither of us know that. My bigger issue is that you are basing far too much of your argument on Schaefer and not Hicks. Schaefer is irrelevant. His play is irrelevant to what is right for Hicks. If Plouffe gets hurt tomorrow and Sano isn't ready, you want them calling him up too? I would hope not. Prospect development should be independent of major league roster developments. (Good and bad) I just cannot disagree more strongly with the logic that a bungling of the current CF situation requires us to bypass what is right for Hicks in order to fix it. That's compounding the problem if Hicks isn't ready. They can get a long look at him if he comes up in June too. The problem is if this is "too soon" then it's over for Hicks. I'm just not ready to give up on him yet and I don't think he's sufficiently worked on what they want from him or he'd be up already. So good for the Twins being patient and finally putting his development in front of their MLB needs. At least that's how I see it.
