  1. How will any of us know? Player development isn't an exact science. I never put 2015 as the goal, I always felt 2016 or 2017 were far more reasonable. Everything both of us have said is generalities, that's the nature of the discussion. Strange that I name three key players that are big factors and it's "they aren't a team unto themselves". But apparently the regression of four players is enough to call it all falling apart.
  2. "Here Miguel - welcome to the big leagues and the tough adjustment that brings with big league pitchers. Oh...and now you're a utility player. Go get em" Said no one sane ever.
  3. Why does something have to be the end of the world to be a dumb thing to do? Why mess with the progression of one of your best prospects when you don't have to?
  4. Please, by all means explain the difference between the rebuild "disintegrating" and "failed".
  5. Nor does coming back to earth means the rebuild failed. That's just a preposterous assertion.
  6. I hate the idea of just sticking him in RF because he's got a big arm and isn't a clutz. Haven't we had enough bad play in the OF to nix that thought before it even happens? The DH spot is plenty open right now, play him there and get him reps at third. Plouffe isn't so great (or so young, or so long under team control) that we should be shoving Sano elsewhere. The only reason to move Sano is if the team doesn't think he can learn to play third. Anything else is a poor rationale.
  7. That's really overstating things. The rebuild is not "disintegrating", we're just debuting some of our best prospects, so drop the drama. But yes - Mauer is a gigantic problem. One the Twins are going to have to face off with and make the right decision. (Reduce his playing time)
  8. It was partially tongue in cheek. Frankly, Mauer deserves to be on the bench.
  9. I'm not seeing the connection between the F word and Republicans.
  10. DFA Duensing. Call up Sano Buxton Dozier Hunter Plouffe Sano Vargas Rosario Suzuki Escobar Let Mauer sit for a week and get his head right.
  11. I'd love to see Sano up and rotated in at 3rd for 2-4 games a week. Then deal Plouffe in July for some help at catcher.
  12. Maybe this will kill the all-star voting for MLB as we know it. I'd consider that a huge win.
  13. Truth is stranger than fiction indeed.
  14. Todd Walker had a pretty serious hype train if I recall.
  15. What is the Republican party doing to minimize the F word? Is there a fine for that coming? Cuz I'd vote Hillary if that's on a platform. If the Republican party keeps hammering losing issues like marijuana criminalization and anti-gay marriage - they won't win another national election for awhile.
  16. Just because we have a lot of bad hitters doesn't make Hicks a good one. You made the point about OFs and Brock said it nicely - yes there are clearly three better. Hicks problem isn't driving in runs, it's just plain driving the ball. Until he starts to actually hit the ball with authority I don't care how his approach changes.
  17. Maybe, but as bad as he is offensively it's certainly up for debate.
  18. Frankly, I think it's both. The reality of his talent level relative to the big leagues has lowered what I think of his ceiling.
  19. They need to fix the bullpen, if they don't we will be sellers by the all star game. Buxton helps balance the lineup tremendously once he starts hitting lead off.
  20. For me the list is much simpler: drop the social issues and work on smart, fair solutions to problems. We desperately need a party that wants to effectively inact solutions.
  21. To be clear, I don't want to give up on him. I've just conceded his ceiling has been drastically lowered.
  22. You're right about that, for me the difference with Hicks is the lack of progress over those at bats. We are no closer than we were 650 at bats ago.
  23. Relevant comparisons help keep a point salient. Almost every player struggles, ok, but 650 ABs is not the same as 150. At some point the sample is large enough to draw conclusions.
  24. Or, more likely, another reason to bash home-cooked error/hit rulings.
  25. To try and steer away from baseless speculation, I did mean to comment on this. People are getting caught in the moment that was my personal dealbreaker with Hicks. But let's be honest here, most of the time when our attitudes or impressions shift about a player it takes a dramatic turn at some point. Hicks didn't suddenly become a 4th OF, but he's been on the descent from "1st round pick, top prospect!" status to this for awhile. If it helps, Brian Duensing didn't suddenly turn into a pumpkin either but we all had our moment when we said "alright, enough of this guy", same with Stauffer. Could we have nitpicked that one moment to death and decided it wasn't the "right" moment to have that reaction? Probably, but it doesn't change the overall issue. It's not just this gaffe. Or his weak at bat with the bases loaded. It's the cumulative effect of all those moments.
