  1. And Price is one of many "aces" you'll find out there with horrific post-season success. People seem to forget we had one of the best pitchers in baseball for much of our last run and it guaranteed nothing. I'd rather have one than not, but I'm not going to fall over myself in FA to get one if my dollar could go farther on, say, Chris Davis or Matt Wieters.
  2. All that matters is that you get good performances. Who that comes from varies wildly. Just ask David Price. Or San Fran's other big hero: Ryan Vogelsong. It's a cute phrasing, but all you have to do is go look at actual box scores to see it isn't that simple.
  3. I really hope this doesn't go down the "you have to have an ace to win in the playoffs" path. It's totally incorrect and massively overrated. But having an ace for the regular season grind is beneficial and the team should be on the hunt for one. Personally, I'd rather invest our trade assets and money into offensive players at this stage in the rebuild.
  4. Gambling on productive players seems like a fine general strategy.
  5. The Twins have plenty of money. This isn't the 1996 Minnesota Twins anymore, let's bury that notion for the rest of the offseason please.
  6. Ben, it was apples to hamburgers. Upton was a sub Mendoza hitter owed buckets of money, Pek is an inside scorer that just can't stay healthy who is overpaid. Since virtually everyone is overpaid in the NBA and post scores are hard to come by, their trade status/value just isn't comparable at all.
  7. Pek staying healthy at all is going to do a world of good for his value. That alone, production aside, is going to be important.
  8. The a Twins have even admitted money is king in FA. Face it, it ain't the weather, it's the frugality.
  9. I'm not saying you have to trade him, just that you might find more suitors than the BJ Upton comp. I'd rather just ride his deal out.
  10. I agree and I don't blame Sanders for skirting that issue a bit, but Maher laid out just how effective that strategy would be. I think, though, that Hillary answered that socialism question well in the debate. I thought she made a good case for what the Dems should stand for (reigned in capitalism from time to time, curbing the excesses, etc.) and that message will work for moderates. Where Sanders is going to get killed is the Vermont health insurance point that Maher made. Or other nuances that make his populist appeal less appealing. I feel like every time I hear him say "free college" I put it at about equal intellectual merit as "I'll make Mexico build a big wall".
  11. Interesting pushback on Sanders. I don't think he handled that well at all.
  12. With the changing money situation in the NBA I think this comparison falls flat. You still won't get much for him but there may be more suitors than you think.
  13. Sweetest revenge there is: winning.
  14. Maybe all his positive experiences hitting in Target Field recently will sway him to sign a team friendly deal?
  15. He should have sipped his tea, curtly bowed, and remarked that he was "ever so sorry to have helped his team win". Clearly.
  16. I think it's been pretty clearly a help. And next year, when this changes, we won't have any Kangs or Tejedas to regret. That'll be a good thing too.
  17. I imagine more shoe flying than banging in that situation. I like Bernie's principled approach to being a legislator and I appreciate his passion. But I'd rather have him advising a President than being one.
  18. In my head I imagined him negotiating with Putin like that.
  19. The details of the deal are important and the team's status as near contenders makes pausing to consider that important. But the reasons to shop him and explore options are compelling when you don't pick them apart. Again, not that you have to trade him, but those circumstances make it ideal to explore it.
  20. When you isolate the reasons of course they aren't sufficient, it's the combination. It's that we have a ready young bat at 3B, contenders for the DH spot that are young, he has value, and he's only got two years left. It's those things together that make shopping him wise, picking them apart is a disingenuous framing of the issue.
  21. I guess what I mean is that I feel like he really just wants to tell people what he thinks. That's his objective it feels like. And in the first half you saw some of that - everyone else is talking issues and when it pans to Bernie I feel like I'm getting lectured by my dad. The same way every time Trump talks I feel like I'm getting a lecture from a half-wit uncle.
  22. Loved it. I'm really excited about the show - the tone and the atmosphere just kick ass. Plus - Nick Offerman!
  23. The home plate changes, as far as I know, eliminated any nasty, injury causing collisions this year. And the game is still alive and being played hard. It's just no longer recklessly dangerous for no reason.
  24. It's not that his ideas are intransigent, like I said, I actually like some of his ideas. But so much of his platform is based on sounding specific and good, but the deeper you dig the worse the idea is. Just a few that I don't like: 1) Free College - No. Not until you fix the way the colleges are already abusing the system. Then we can talk. 2) Federal Minimum Wage at $15 - That's stupid. I'm ok with raising the floor, but that's just too high for many parts of the country. You'll have people at Subway making more than teachers and nurses. 3) Comparing everything to Germany and Norway - It appears any nuance to those comparisons is totally lost on him. That said, you put him against basically any of the Republicans and I at least consider voting for him.
  25. I think I wasn't clear about my comparison to Trump, it wasn't in the buffoonery of ideas that I was drawing a comparison, more that when I listen to him it's clear he's just not president material. That his entire campaign seems more about himself than it does about actually being a leader. Maybe another way to say it is that I can just as easily see Sanders as a viable President as I can Trump, not because of ideas but because of personality.
