  1. Also, boiling this down to wants vs needs seems a tad silly. For one, yes it's clearly a want. Two....another bar sure as hell isn't a need either.
  2. Good thing one belief or opinion being stupid isn't a bar we use here at TD to dismiss people or we'd all have no one to talk to.
  3. You can hate an opinion without hating the person. Hell, its important to do that so you can work to change their mind. Fiercely defining a person by one mistake or one belief is a dangerous, and more than a bit preposterous, stance.
  4. It's also only natural for kids 2-8 years old to want to get up and see the ballpark and do something active. God forbid they enjoy going and picking up a bat and playing baseball or something. I think we all understand that the team doesn't have to cater to us every minute, we're parents for god's sake - we're all well accustomed to how the world works. But even a rink-a-dink mall finds a 20 foot area for a freaking park/climbing area. All Target Field seems to find is another place to dispense overpriced crappy beer. Every other ballpark I've been to that has been renovated or built in the last 15 years has made an area that kids would like to spend time in. Target Field has nothing. Unless you count sticking two kids in a bear costume on a 90 degree day. come to think of it...maybe the Twins just hate children?
  5. Gold Gloves are their own host of issues.
  6. I support pretty much any kind of gun control. Seriously, pass whatever you want. I don't like guns and find no redeeming value in them. How I feel about legislation is different then being honest about how that legislation will (if at all) actually work. The gun show thing is silly, but it's a drop in the bucket. Feel free to put those drops in, but filling the bucket isn't going to happen that way. We have to neuter the NRA's influence until we can pass gun control that will actually make a difference.
  7. Exactly. It's going to have to be a dirty, ugly, nasty fight. But it's one that HAS to be won. You don't have to like it, but the NRA controls the system because we haven't properly destroyed their image. I talked earlier about tobacco being a model and that's what it has to be. It has to be relentless and ruthless until they start to feel it.
  8. I will greatly miss the Funkadelic, it actually relit my interest in the Wolves a bit purely by how likable Flip Saunders was. He and Barreiro made for some excellent radio and that segment will be sorely missed. Barreiro's tribute show was excellent, it's another reminder how spoiled we are by that program and we rarely celebrate it for what it is.
  9. Congrats to Molly, an award decided by your peers says a lot in any situation.
  10. Oh I know, but even then Chicago has a fairly tough set of gun control laws. But Chicago is sort of a unique case and not a good case against gun control. I honestly don't know how we pass any gun legislation that makes a difference in the current climate. I know that's pessimistic, but it's also just being honest. We have to find a way to neuter the NRA but I don't know how that happens without a long, long campaign.
  11. Patrick Wilson is impressing me as well, those two staredowns were intense.
  12. I don't think it should be all that surprising that a vast majority of Democrat mayors want gun control. I tend to agree with them, though, especially about the possibility of allowing different gun control laws in urban/city areas compared to rural ones.
  13. This is the best show on television. Last night was exceptional and Bokeem Woodbine is going to get serious awards consideration.
  14. Absolutely, it wouldn't take much and would serve as a place you could go walk to, spend some time, and then come back. It doesn't have to function as an all-day distraction, just an option to explore for a chunk of the 3-4 hours you're there. And it helps those that want to concentrate on the game. Though, personally in my experience, my game viewing enjoyment is far more often ruined by obnoxious drunks than it ever has been by a kid.
  15. It was a very good career and I hope retirement serves him just as well.
  16. Baseball has always had a very deep family component for me. My apologies (I guess) for wishing to share that with my son. Feel free to enjoy yet another over priced place to buy nothing but Miller that you could've gone to for free with less parking hassle. I guess.
  17. Boy it's hard not to respond to this post in the way I want to. Insulting someone's kids you never met seems like a real good way to make your point. No, not Chucky Cheese - just a space that kids can go to appreciate baseball might be nice. You know, a place that MANY other parks have opted to include in their space because they see the value in it. Another bar? Beyond redundant. (You're paying money to go to a place that you can go for free and the beer selection is both cheaper and more plentiful. How stupid is that?) When the ballpark isn't filled and people that would bring 3-6 people with them (who buy a ton of concessions and other junk) aren't coming: that's a market you shouldn't be ignoring. Many other clubs have realized that, by the way.
  18. You're right, I could do that but I'd also love to take them to see the Twins. And I don't have any advice spycake. My son is 2 and my wife and I decided (after taking him to a CHW-MIN rivalry game his first two summers) that we weren't going to keep that tradition because Target Field just wasn't family friendly. I hated agreeing with that conclusion but didn't feel like I had much of a choice.
  19. This is where I'm at too. My son is too young to stay immersed 100% in a game and even if I take him on Sunday to run the bases, the only thing to do during the game is to walk the concourse. It'd be nice if there was a place to go for young fans and many of the new ballparks have done it.
  20. Yeah, I don't get why people think Plouffe is part of this deal. The only way that happens is if you deal Plouffe for a prospect you use to acquire Lucroy. (Which, I think, is a route to pursue)
  21. That's fair Parker, I agree with that. My issue is that they took a space and chose "bar" as the thing the stadium needed. Given the options already there, it seems like something more kid oriented might have been a better use of space.
  22. Investing in families brings in plenty of money, not to mention builds future money paying fans.
  23. Bringing your child to a bar doesn't make it child friendly.
  24. Even the plaza is packed with people with nowhere to go. No mini field to play on. No quiet place to sit and play with other kids. Nothing child themed but the mascot. But we have a dozen bars. C'mon.
  25. As a parent.....not a fan. There is almost nothing child friendly at our ballpark.
