  1. What the hell does Arcia have to do to get an at bat?
  2. A guy with limited experience and instincts and natural fit at ANY position creates significant risk. So, yeah, this is concerning hug Schwarber just reinforces the first point.
  3. A site I try to avoid, but should have substantial liberal chops, had an article about this. The problem with the Sanders' argument that getting out more votes means something for the down ticket, requires those extra voters to know what is at stake in those lower races. I don't think it's crazy to suggest that Trump and Sanders voters are going to be more likely to be ignorant of those stakes than their counterparts. This is a very Bernie-centric push, I doubt it does much good at all for Democrats in general. Which, sadly, they desperately need at state, local, and congressional levels. Hell, we all need that to balance out a bit more.
  4. Fair point, though I'd argue the overlap is rather significant.
  5. We had a couple of torrid hitters carry us for stretches last year, this offense really worries me. I hope this doesn't become a trend. I feel confident we can get competent starting pitching, but I'm not nearly as confident in our ability to score runs. And if Sano has an adjustment period for any stretch of time that lack of confidence becomes full blown pessimism.
  6. I don't understand what we're arguing about - what is entailed in being savvy? Smerf is right that, in general, the midwest has significantly higher portion of intelligent people.
  7. Right, you do that and you get crucified but if you slide and grab a guy's leg as he throws you are perfectly in the right. I just don't get why 2nd base doesn't follow the same rules.
  8. I thought it as it was happening. As Nunez is standing there ready to PR...all I could think is - why not just hit him? I'll always prefer Nunez to Suzuki in a tight situation, PH stats be damned.
  9. I'm glad Mike pointed out the pinch hitting thing. If you're going to pinch run Nunez for Suzuki anyway....why the hell don't you let the better hitter swing in that situation? I can't make sense of that.
  10. I would say yes and I'm glad to see that. The second "hard slide" isn't making any effort to be safe, only to impact the fielder's ability to field. And think about any other situation in baseball - do we allow that? Do we allow someone to barrel into the first baseman? Or slap at a glove? Only at second do we have some kind of bizarre set of different rules in which players think interference should be legal. Why is that?
  11. Ok.....any shreds of optimism about Sano in RF are evaporating quickly. Eek.
  12. Hope he isn't hurt, but I expect a lot of that kind of ugliness this year.
  13. I pulled this thread up and all I read about is ABW. Looks like Garrett Jones is going to need to hand over that "Golden Calf" moniker.
  14. Holy assumptions. He grabbed his leg. Have you ever tried to throw something with someone grabbing your balance leg? It absolutely could have impacted the throw. You're trying to have your way which is some kind of bizzaro set of rules at second where runners are allowed to deliberately interfere with fielders and deny what you can see with your eyes to make it true. Even the other people wanting the bust-up slides in this thread are acknowledging what Bautista did is illegal. What you seem to miss is that the basis for this rule is that no where, other than apparently second base, is a runner given so much deference to interfere with a fielder. All that's happening is bringing second base to the same playing field as the rest of the bases.
  15. Bautista did not just slide hard into the bag - he grabbed the body of the fielder. Is that something you think is ok? How much contact are runners allowed to have with fielders? How far does it have to go before you agree it's interference, if you believe it's ok to grab and pull a fielder's leg?
  16. This in no way answers the question. You continue to bristle every time someone points out that player safety is a real factor and that you are promoting player injury. But then you also complain about "busting up double plays" going away, as if the injury-causing slides are somehow different than the "bust up the double play slides" Players are injuring each other with the express intent of busting up double plays. So you seem to want to have it both ways, so better clarity on what you actually want to stick around and want out would be helpful. Otherwise, you look like you're trying to have your cake and eat it too.
  17. So what are you promoting then? What is fair to do? You got asked before and you ducked it. If you're against the Utley slides but want some other kind of "bust up the double play" - what are you allowing?
  18. Right and all we lose is something that is absurd in the first place. How many times are these take out slides actually effective? The only thing they effectively did was force baseball to stop forcing infielders to touch the base. We got this bizarro "in the neighborhood" rule. Not only does it hurt players, it doesn't even accomplish anything other than make second base some kind of Twilight Zone for rules.
  19. You seriously think a flying kick to someone is baseball? Were you taught that in high school? I was taught to slide hard into the bag, as crazy as that apparently is for some of you.
  20. Palin looks like she's gone with the "middle age stripper" look - am I the only one thinking that? Coulter legitimately scares me. Like, go into the fetal position if I'm in the same room as her, sort of fear.
  21. God forbid we ask people to slide into the base and not the human. I thought the point of baseball was to safely advance to the next base, not safely advance some body part of yours into the opponents? Where the hell did some of you learn what baseball was?
  22. It's great Sanders is winning states, but pretty much everyone agrees he needs to be closer to 70% than 50% for it to matter. This is also is softest part of the schedule, so we'll see what happens next.
  23. Wait, you mean now we're going to play baseball like we do when we're 15? I don't understand how the same people that want no celebrations in the game also want us to play it like it's the Thunderdome version of hte sport where broken legs are par for the course. You know what this looks like? Baseball when you're a kid. When you're not deliberately trying to hurt each other but just, you know, have fun and play baseball. Good for us all.
  24. In fairness I think most candidates, when pressed for specifics, will flop but you're right that he should have better answers. I mean, he can't even confirm that what he's promising is even legal and indicates he never even bothered to check! The foreign policy stuff wasn't much better.
