The past two nights have been as bad as spring training games. It's just one big promo for PR and how great it is and everyone has such pride in the island. It's obvious the agenda is far more important than the games.
I wrote this several years ago but just posted this off-season: http://twinsdaily.com/blog/1032-what-if-the-twins-had-drafted-prior-or-teixeira-instead-of-mauer/
I like that Madden had to use some ****ty reliever for more innings and pitches than he allowed Kyle Hendricks to go because he is the king of over-managing and ran out of position players.
In 2003 I was circled at the Trop in Tampa for my very generic "Circle Me Bert" sign. The girl I was with had a sign that said, "We love Dick too!" which Bert was very happy to comment on. The fine folks in security almost didn't let us in with the sign until we explained who Dick was. I still have that game on VHS. The memories...
It's following the crowd. There is no rational reason to have 13 pitchers on any roster. It's not like the 13th guy contributes in a positive manner. The way teams manipulate the DL and every transaction should negate this perceived necessity anyway. You really handcuff yourself when you can't make any bench moves due to a lack of options.
The unwillingness for teams to field a pitching staff of less than a dozen really screws over guys like Vargas, who 20 years ago would be a nice switch hitting option off the bench for a lot of teams.
The last sentence of your first paragraph is what confused me, but yes, I think we agree that Ryan is at fault for the initial extension and Falvine is at fault for keeping Hughes last year and if he does so again this year.
This is stupid. It was obvious three years ago that Hughes should not be on this roster in 2018 and yet we drag it out due to financial reasons. Thanks, Terry. Just cut him loose and take the monetary loss rather than the standings loss along with the financial loss.
I'd rather have Lance Lynn than Mejia. I don't think it helps to have a lefty just for the sake of having one. How many of these teams had a mediocre lefty?
