  1. My own eyes I see those guys play, you know Last I saw Pino pitching in the second game of a doubleheader against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs here. (Meyer started the first game.) That's what he was hitting in the pretty fair Coca Cola park scoreboard radar gun. Not sure where other people get their scouting reports. Here is the major thing: He changes speeds a lot. 88-94 is the range. There might be one one each end, but think bell curve and tossing around it top to bottom all night. You'll see tomorrow
  2. you are missing someone Shane #FreeEduardoEscobar.
  3. Yeah. Also .199 BABIP and 4.13 xFIP and a fastball that barely touches 90. In other words, a disaster ready to happen yesterday. If anyone, ever, anyhow, picked the phone up and offered anything resembling a prospect for Thielbar, the Twins' brass will be nuts to pass. On the other hand...
  4. I was surprised to tell you the truth. I thought that it would be May. Don't be disappointed at all. Pino has a lot of movement (like Deduno), but (unlike Deduno) he has command of the fastball and he can change speeds (94-88) and locations regularly. Plus he has 2 out pitches (change and curve.) Not sure if you remember, but for a couple seasons he was a top prospect for the Twins (I'd say at the Felix Jorge/Lewis Thorpe level) Then he got nagging injuries and slowed down. Still, he was a top 20 prospect when traded for Pavano. You'd like what you'll see, believe me. Saw him pitch live earlier this season and in Spring Training. Pretty dominant in May. Eventually I see him in a Swarzak (or a Ramiro Mendoza) type of role in a contending team (and hopefully that would be a Twins' team.) So think of him as a spot starter.
  5. Donuts to Dollars, unless there is something catastrophic with the Twins' rotation, Meyer will not get call up this season. He has shoulder issues and is in a strict limit. Here is the kicker: If the Twins' wanted to, he could had been called up tomorrow instead of Pino. He is pitching tonight for Rochester.
  6. Trading Hughes (who just entered his prime btw) makes zero sense. Not sure how long they have to keep Morales before they trade him. I think that they should sell high on Dozier, because his reminds me a lot of this guy (check how the OPS is driven by SLG and the BA and OBP levels) and his peak will not even be close to that guy's, but he does have value now. If Correia and Deduno and Theilbar and Swarzak can bring a warm body with a pulse, I'd take it at this point, just because May and Meyer and Achter and Johnson are better players. I don't think that they are getting anything for Guerrier and Burton, but they should go (heck Burton might be already gone)
  7. How sure are you about that? I think that best case scenario with Buxton is to have a healthy season in AA next season and fight of a 25 man roster spot in 2016. That said, I'd still keep Rosario at second base and sell high the off-season on Dozier, but the Twins will not do that. Hicks will be fine as the Twins' starting CF in 2015. His OBP his season is higher than Span's last 3 seasons with the Twins and he has the glove and the arm to play there. It is hard to form opinions about MLB readiness based on A+ numbers. For reference: Buxton is where Meyer was 2 seasons ago.
  8. Next year is way too soon. FSL is a pitchers league. Let's see some success in AA first. He is still very young.
  9. I'd take the every year for the Twins (99+96+96 is not an easy feat.) But it does not happen with every team. Some teams might have an off year here and there. Very rare to be awful 4 years in a row, even rarer to keep the front office and management intact in these situations and pretty much unique to the Twins, for fans to be ok with the situation. On pace for 88 losses this season, btw. Nothing that does not stink or is remotely excusable (in a valid way) about that.
  10. I have zero problem with this, if they use Deduno appropriately (i.e. only in blowouts as a mop up pitcher.)
  11. Nope. But he has the responsibility to a. realize that Deduno should not start for this team, if the team might want to win that game and b. make a recommendation to his boss to replace Deduno. WHO will replace Deduno, MIGHT be the GM's decision, but based on what Gardenhire has said before (e.g. things like "WE decided that player A was not good enough") he is mucho involved in those decisions.
  12. Nobody is putting stats similar to Pino or Achter. I suspect that Dedudo's, Burton's, Guerrier's spots (to begin with, not to mention the Colabellos of the world) would be enough
  13. I think that the most accurate statement is: Phil Hughes has been very impressive. Including Hughes, as a collective the rotation has been mediocre to bad (4.86 ERA, 1.436 WHIP, 5.3 K/9, a .286/.336/.443 opponent batting line etc). I know that mediocre to bad is a step up from hideous to awful that was the last few seasons, but by no means it is "impressive" or "solid". I'd replace Deduno and Correia with May and Meyer right away, Burton and Guerrier with Pino (yes, I still see him as a reliever) and Achter, Theilbar with Kris Johnson and maybe Swarzak with Correia (or Darnell)
  14. Big problem here. Vargas should not sit. Vargas is the better hitter, but his skill set is identical with that of Kendrys Morales. Kennys will be up here in Sept. and replace Kendrys in 2015. Also, this is the last contract season of the Twins-Rock Cats contract. They will move up the street in a 10K people ball park, the biggest in Eastern League. There are a lot in play there...
  15. Forgot Guerrier. Thanks. Thielbar too. I think that Parmelee and Swarzak do have some value but they are not used correctly.
  16. (move Pelfrey to 60-day) Burton Deduno Ibarra Fryer Florimon Colabello (In no particular order) can go and this team might actually be better. Correia too.
  17. They said something like bruised ribs and it looked like that than an oblique stain by the way it happened and were he was grabbing himself after he plopped on the ground.
  18. Very true. Should had counted Nunez as a SS. (Nah. Plouffe's SS train passed. He is a corner OF miscast as a third baseman.)
  19. Nope. 60 day Pelfrey. There is a spot
  20. Hmmmmm. Time to play GM: This team has 3 players who can play SS (Escobar, Dozier, Santana), a couple who can play second base, one who can play third (and happens to be the starting shortstop), Florimon is hitting .237/.292 /.340 in AAA without ever playing an inning at third, while Rochester's starting third baseman (Deibinson Romero) is hitting .302/.402/.444. Who would you bring up if you were the Twins' GM? #knocksheadonthewall
  21. Did you watch the game today?
  22. As far as this goes: I have never seen so much fan enthusiasm (and forgiveness for the doers) when their team went from terrible (99+96+96) to bad this season. Well... as far as pitching goes: Alex Meyer and Trevor May are way ahead of Kevin Correia and Sam Deduno at this point. and Kris Johnson, AJ Achter, Yohan Pino are way better than Caleb Thielbar, Jarred Burton and Matty Guerrier at this point. Burdi when signed will be way better than every reliever in this organization. There are options in the organization.
  23. Interesting? What's new? We are talking about the same people who preferred Nishioka & Hoey over Hardy, Capps over Ramos, Young over Garza, LeCroy over Ortiz, had Livan Hernandez as an opening day starter (and Brad Radke over Johan Santana multiple seasons & Pavano over Liriano twice,) discarded Carlos Gomez, Kyle Lohse, R.A. Dickey, Pat Neshek et. al. Why is the Worley situation "interesting"? SOP for them. Could had been worse. They could had anointed Diamond the opening day starter last season. Heck, this is the same people who brought us 99+96+96 and then had the audacity to celebrate Gardenhire's 1000th win in that context. And the worst part about that, is that only a few Twins' fans blinked an eye. The Twins' FO and field management are talking about players' "scholarships", while they are tenured.
  24. If Carew could file a grievance against the Twins he would have done so. The (main) reason he was traded was because he was very vocal in criticizing the Twins' ownership and front office. I would call the "Hunter" era with another name. He was not the best player in that time (Santana, Mauer, Morneau in any order you want to pick were.) Plus he declined a fair offer by the Twins and signed with the Angels as a free agent for more $ (something that Puckett had a chance to do but did not) and, then, when he hit Free Agency again, he signed with the strongest team in the Twins' division. Sorry, he is not a Twin as far as I am concerned and I hope he sucks every day (Nathan too) and the Tigers suck. I am a Twins' fan. Cannot root for the enemy. The current times are too current to be chronicled...
