  1. 2? Mets, Royals, Jays, Astros, Pirates, Rangers, Angels, Dodgers, Cubs all made significant to major moves during the deadline time and made the post-season. From the teams that made the post-season only the Yankees stayed put.
  2. I am not talking about your lists Seth I get your point and the restrictions you are working with (like GCL only and if they qualify for Rookie status in 2016, they qualify for your list.) I am talking about the "pros". BA and MLB.com (even ESPN) do have people who have seen players from Latin America play and I am sure that they would have a better way of creating lists vs. what they are doing now, which is outsourcing to local writers (who have not seen people who have not made it to the US play.) Would it hurt to spend some time and have a round table of those folks in making those lists?
  3. That's what I don't get: Why would a top international signee will not be in some top 10 lists, while an equally unproven 1st round pick almost always breaks the top-10 in the same lists? Bias? Must be. I'd love an alternative explanation, if we are talking about tools and potential... Javier has a much higher potential than Gordon (and actually might even be a better player than him now,) for example...
  4. Pretty sure that Mike Berardino had not seen Rainis Silva play before he wrote this Wonder whether he will change that this off-season.
  5. Can you imagine any of similar type information to be extracted out of the Twins' front office?
  6. Pretty sure that the personnel stuff mentioned at that report was not what the Twins did not want to talk about, since Ryan talked about it in a TV interview as well. The Twins had every right to ask for the removal of that because it was publishing something that was happened inside a focus group (and likely against legal paperwork that someone signed to be part of that focus group.) Pretty sure that it was about the other stuff. The player stuff is out there, plus you know when DSP is talking about players... The TD staff really saved that post's OP's rear end by deleting that post, if you ask me, so back off
  7. Arias will make my top 40 list, and so will Wander Javier, but they are not Catchers The one Catcher who compares to Navaretto is another high Latin American pick a couple years ago, Rainis Silva. Not sure whether he made Seth's list, but he is probably the best game caller and fielding C in the Twins' system (including the majors) with his bat trailing, but he is 19 and hitting better than Navaretto and just looks like a catcher... Had him at 24 last year (and 10 of my list graduated this year,) interesting to see whether he will make Seth's list
  8. I know. I'd actually say that I think that Michael would be as good as, or even better than, Dozier, and Michael is light years behind Polanco...
  9. People behaving as if Plouffe and Dozier were superstars or something. Facts: Plouffe was 10th out of 15 AL third basemen with at least 350 PAs in wOBA, WRC+ and OPS and 11/15 in OBP. Not average for the league. BELOW AVERAGE. Which means that getting PAs for a better than average 3B (Sano) and a better than average DH (go find him) will improve the team. Dozier was 9th out of 18 AL second basemen with at least 350 PAs in wOBA, WRC+ and OPS and 12/18 in OBP. AVERAGE or below average. Which means that getting PAs for a better than average 2B will improve the team. Also if they can bring a better than average Catcher and a better than average Reliever for them two, you are in business. Not sure why people acting like they are superstars... Dozier's wheels have been on the decline btw, as well...
  10. The time of that comment is so appropriate for its content There are better choices that Pierzynski for a LHB C, as cheap free agents, including this guy and this guy and this guy.
  11. Sure, why not. Pretty sure that the Mets would trade Cuddaver and eat up most of the $ for someone with a heart beat. Punto is a free agent as well. Bring them all back, the Twins won a whole bunch of World Series with them... /sarcasm
  12. Nah. Pretty much the same player as Escobar who is just one year older than Castro but is free. I'd take Miguel Montero's bad contract from the Cubs ($14M for each of his age 32 and 33 seasons) any day though
  13. Navaretto is bigger than Perez. Plus he is 20 and has yet to hit at any level. Perez made the majors at age 21 and never looked back.
  14. Navaretto is a cut candidate. .537 OPS after 3 years in the pros and a. regressing every year with the bat while b. getting biggest every year, does not bode well. He is around 6'5" 250 these days. The only way he could remotely be a prospect is if they pulled a Derek Rodriguez on him and turned him into a reliever. That big arm could surely play more than his stick. Turner has the career path of Drew Butera in the minors. Only Butera hit better than Turner. Prospect? Sure. But not number 19 in this system...
  15. Alright. Sub "Sano" with "Polanco" and see what happened? Polanco is that good and that ready...
  16. Well... between Dozier (.307), Plouffe (.307), Rosario (.289), Hunter (God forbid they re-sign him.293), Suzuki (.296), Escobar (.309) getting on base is a big problem. I'd take a single, two walks and a double over a solo HR any time of the day... They need high OBP guys as well. I think that Sano, Arcia, and Vargas would be fine with power. I expect Hicks and Rosario each to get to 20 or so as well in a full season. Sano was on pace for 40. Need OBP Re: Dozier: He was league average bat: 101 OPS+ I'd give Escobar a try at second with Polanco at SS. Polanco will likely hit better than 101 OPS+
  17. How many more years does he see himself doing this? When he retired previously, he mentioned that he wanted to see someone come in with "fresh and new ideas". Is this need less now, 9 years afterwards?
  18. Agreed. Berardino got over Hunter. Are you sure that Hunter got over himself? Totally a big deal.
  19. I'd like to see Hughes as the closer next season (was lights out in relief with the Yankees) with Perkins, Jepsen, and May as the core. That would give the Twins a chance to get after Zimmerman (the only worthwhile price/value arm out there) I'd also love it if they can move Santana to give the kids a chance. Sorry cannot trust the guy. Who can tells us that the good start and finish was due to steroids? Sell high and good riddance. Re: Berrios Not the only one. Alex Meyer actually has better stuff and higher ceiling. One bad season. I'd love to see Berrios and Meyer make the Twins out of Spring Training. Add Zimmerman, Gibson and Nolasco/Milone/Duffey, and this rotation can be something. But the pen is the biggest problem here...
  20. That's 39 left now (with Darnell and Pressly) Boyer, Cotts, Duensing, Hunter Free Agents and Achter, Darnell, Fien, O Rourke, Tonkin, Herrmann, Nunez (nobody of those pitchers would made it to a post-season team bullpen and there are better options than the last 2 out there...) Bring it down to 28. That gives the Twins plenty of room to protect some players, get some new blood up, and get 4-5 new pieces in trades and as FAs
  21. How about, hypothetically, if Mauer's decline is not really Mauer's fault? The whole team hit like a AAA team and every single hitter (other than Hicks) has declined. How about, hypothetically, finding a hitting coach who can help Mauer (and the rest of the team) return back to form?
  22. Working on mine will get it going after the Rule 5 draft. Here is my 2015 top 40 list. More than 10 players from that list either graduated, retired, released or traded, so 2016 will be interesting
  23. Batting Average? Seriously? How about RBIs and SBs. Pretty sure those dropped too.
  24. How about Arcia instead? Career .807 OPS vs RHPs (and last season had .779) - His issue has been LHPs.
