  1. Am I the only one who thinks that the Twins are better with Perkins on the DL and not "closing" games for them?
  2. Did Perkins look worse last year? Did the bullpen look worse last year? Biggest issue with the 2015 team and biggest reason it did not make the post-season was the bullpen. Does it look better this year? Fatal flaw fixed so this team can go to the post-season? Just saying. It is not just the 7 games.
  3. 1. Fire Brunansky 2. DFA Fien bring up Chargois 3. Move Perkins to a mop up role
  4. That extension has been looking like a bargain the last couple years...
  5. FTFY
  6. I'd try May before Jepsen and even call JT Chargois before Jepsen if May fails. Perkins should be the 7th inning guy, unless his FB gets to 94-95 and his SL to 84-85
  7. Odd? Should not be odd. Ryan himself admitted that time has passed him by, the first time he retired. He does not know how to manage a competitive team long in the post-season. And he is a spendthrift. So the Abads, and the Fiens and the Tonkins on the world. Plus he is delusional thinking that magically Perkins will become effective at age 33 with -5-7 mph velocity and keeps rewarding players based on having the (half) season of their careers. Add Jepsen to the Suzuki and Capps and Hughes equation. Add the fact that the ones who owning the team do not hold him accountable, and then why should he do it?
  8. It is not 6 games. It is one post-season series win since 1991. Been a while.
  9. Perkins Dozier Plouffe Abad Santana Nolasco Jepsen Suzuki Milone Fien Park Got to rebuild at some point...
  10. Twins' MO. Did the same to Polanco 2 seasons in a row.
  11. This is the safe thing. Only OFs in 40-man were Kepler and Walker. Only one who can play CF is Kepler.
  12. Data: Twins' ranking in K% (highest is worst) 2016: 1st 2015: 12th 2014: 8th 2013: 2nd 2012: 29th 2011: 23rd 2010: 28th I think that the numbers speak volumes here about Brunansky as a hitting coach...
  13. Brunansky has had 3+ seasons now. The strikeouts have been a problem since he took over and are progressively getting worst. It is not 2016, it is 2013-16. I'd trade him for Herr tomorrow.
  14. Agreed on all of that, but the problem is that Buxton has a grand total of 1 PA with 2 more balls than strikes (2-0 or 3-1) and he stuck out on that PA, so he really has not gotten that much ahead on the count this season. Career he has 27 2-0 or 3-1 PAs and he has 5 hits (.185 BA), 2 BB, and 7 K. Not. Good. Enough.
  15. Do you happen to watch NFL and/or College football? FWIW, that particular ball in regular circumstances was Dozier's, but he was shifted.
  16. Wonder how many people are unwilling to fly after a reported plane crash. Not that different than this situation.
  17. A C is missing
  18. So you want your coldest player to bat third? Gee
  19. Re Hunter: Among 18 RFs with qualifying PAs, he was: 7th UZR, 14th DRS, 7th Fangraphs Def, 14th Plus/Minus, 14th FP, 17th RZR, 14th Out of zone plays, So, depending on how you are counting...
  20. Look at his statistics at either fangraphs or baseball-reference. They are all about average. The old school ones like fielding percentage and range factor have them way above average. SSS, but that cuts both ways.
  21. The problems I have with this are: a. there is an assumption that Sano is a bad right fielder, while all numbers indicate that he is at least league average (but it is small sample size any way you cut it) b. there is an assumption that a 22 year old player will not get better in a position the more he plays the position, which is plain wrong. I'd wait half season at least before I jump into quick conclusions. Regardless, Ryan had better choices than to play Sano at RF. Punto retired and Gardenhire is thankfully gone. Who cares about those two in 2016...
  22. Been there, done that. Way before anyone could believe. Three words: Gardy. Pedro. Florimon, I rest my case.
  23. So one Buxton (70) is worth 8 Doziers or Rosarios (55) ? No way I think that it is fine the way it is. Multipliers just skew it way on one side and, since we are talking about prospects, those 70s and 65s some times fail (eg. Shawn Abner, Bryan Bullington, Matt Bush, Brien Taylor; all those guys were up there...)
  24. So the though there is that a "fix" that Perkins introduced in the second half of last season, a period of 7.32 ERA, 6.69 FIP, 1.88 WHIP, and .356/.394/.674 opponent slash line, would actually help him in 2016? Also, for some reason the data stop at Aug 17, covering 17 games with the "new and improved" slider, while Perkins appeared in 12 more in August, September, and October. What does the data show about that slider in those games? Was it better or worse? Not sure why they were omitted from the story...
  25. Really cool stuff. I think that age will help a lot. Also breaking down the systems into draft vs IFA will also help because it will show that you don't have to "tank" to build a top minor league system; you can do it by focusing on IFAs and mid to late 1st round draft picks, like the Dodgers who never tanked (and it is the only top third team in this ranking not to do so.) This would also single out perennially bad drafting teams like the Twins...
