Totally disagree. Avg game time in 1984 was 2.35, last year 3.22. What happened in those 40 years. Pitchers strolling around, hitters stepping out after every pitch to re-adjust their batting gloves, catchers running out to the mound, etc. I guess the shorter games is too distracting for the phone watchers. Now you really have to pay attention. Wow! I personally like it. It's not speeding up the game. It's just bringing it back to where it should be by eliminating all the extracurricular activities. But the ghost runner has to go.

I like the addition of Farmer. But I have seen him make numerous baserunning mistakes and a few plays where he didn't hustle. Once on a pop-up that dropped in and another on a strikeout that went to the backstop. Maybe this is where the Carlos Correa leadership role comes into play. 2 posts in 1- 15 replies

I don't think it's cynical at all. Because it sounds eerily similar to their statements about Buxton starting off as dh and maybe as the weather warms up he'll get back to CF

Go back to last ST and read what Falvey or Baldelli said about Archer. He was getting older, and with a shorter ST due to the lockout they were going to start him off slowly and ramp up his workload as time went by and he got stronger. So the were bs ing us all along because that never happened. And reading what Gray had to say in this article, thats pretty much what Archer expected every outing.

I mentioned Mahle not because I think he's hurt, but because he went down last year and has been so-so this spring. I agree he's nice better than Bundy.

SP pitchers want to pitch more innings because SP that pitch a lot of innings get paid more. Ding ding ding, we have a winner. But what you forgot to mention is that managers decisions are not his decisions they're made by the FO. Every decision, roster moves, lineups are based on dollars saved for most clubs. Not all. YET . Base ball has changed more in the last 20 years than it did in the first 100 years, and not necessarily for the better. Cars and phones have too.

"great pitching and defense (on paper) but their offense stinks." The only part of the offense that has changed from last year is Arreaz is gone and Polanco is injured. Miranda was added after the season started to replace Kiriloff, so the optimists are saying Kiriloff and Polanco should return soon. Can't replace Arreaz. Agreed. But I'm still more worried about the starting pitching. Lopez, Gray, and Ryan and pray for rain. Because I think Mahle and Maeda are going to be clones of Bundy and Archer

The players all know the deal. I know he's p o at not making it. And his teammates empathize with him I'm sure. They see and know who's deserving but they also understand the business side too. Every time I hear a gm or manager talk I believe about 1% of what they say in regards to a players status or where they'll fit in

What I'm not understanding is that you state, "Start with the pattern of a full-time DH, gradually into CF as health allows." Generally as the season goes on a players health deteriorates instead of getting healthier. And with Buxtons history. I don't understand how anyone can realistically expect him to play in more than 100 games in any capacity. It would be great to see him play in your 108 game scenario, but I see a lot of posters suggesting 140 games and that's just not realistic

So first he was highly rewarded, and then thrust into MLB only to suffer from ineffective leadership that originally highly rewarded him? Do I have that right? If one of his peers couldn't get through to him and show him the way, what makes you think the coaches could. He got hurt and he got into bad habits and he got lazy.

I don't know if Sano wasn't physically capable. He didn't stay in the best of shape. But you can't sit around drinking beer and smoking cigarettes while everyone else is working to get better, and you just showing up. The only person who let down Sano was Sano himself.

So Nelson Cruz made a statement. That's his opinion. Every MLB team is made up of players from all over the world. So IMHO that makes it a world series. They just happen to be based in the US and Canada. So let's just scrap the system. Form a league made up of all the Latin America countries. Have a US/Canadian/Mexico league. An Asian league and a European league. You'll be down to 12-16 teams in North America so you can kiss your Twins goodbye. And then you can have your REAL World Series. Top 2 teams and playoffs.

It is a global sport and every team is represented by teams made up from many nations. The Twins have players from multiple countries. Your idea won't work simply because of logistics ie travel time. From New York to Tokyo is a 15 hour flight. It could work but you'd have to shorten the season. And if you were to play a team from Caracas or Monterey or Seoul are you suggesting adding more teams or relegation like they do in Soccer

I agree, but in this case you're saying the owners are making money on the WBC. And yesterday's TD article about the Twins and other teams losing money every year. Which is bull carp. I know I'm off topic but extremely rich people are always crying poor mouth. So if they are indeed making a good chunk off the WBC it'll stay. And not 100% sure the Diaz injury will be fully covered by insurance. That language usually consists of if injured during action on the field of play. So if he slipped coming out of the dugout to assume his position or got hit by a line drive, then yes. But you know how insurance companies are. They'll say it happened due to negligence.

It's been called the World Series since 1903 or somewhere in that time frame. I don't think we need to change the name to be "politically correct". They've already caved on changing team names and mascots.
