  1. It seems like Duran Duran has 15 hits vs Twins pitching this spring.
  2. The 9 K are bad enough. But the 9 K on a lot of swings and misses on pitches middle middle is more concerning.
  3. This wasn't unexpected at all. They put the lipstick on it. But it didn't work.
  4. No teams goal is to finish 2nd. But by finishing 2nd. It means you had an OPPORTUNITY to finish 1st. 2nd isn't the goal but it sure isn't a failure. Its a disappointment. And do you think the Twins care (fan) what you want? What you're saying is the Twins are striving to put a team just good enough to keep you interested as a fan. That would be conspiratorial. They're not smart enough to have those thoughts. The loaded Dodgers aren't guaranteed a WS win either. But if for whatever reason they don't, they've created a window of opportunity to win for several more years.
  5. So putting oneself into position to possibly win it every year doesn't count for anything? Those 80s and 90s Atlanta teams were failures. They only won 1. Or the high spending Dodgers. The Astros of the past 10 years is who I'd rather emulate. But at least get to the dance. That rotation Tampa started the year with was the best in baseball. Injuries killed them. And who couldve predicted the Franco incident. To say their approach isnt working because theve never won it is just an easy way to argue a point that isn't true. Once you're there. Anything can happen.
  6. So Ballys is giving a subpar product. Hmmm. Maybe they had to cut payroll. But honestly, I haven't noticed those issues???
  7. 4 homers in 4 innings. I sure hope Lopez is just pitching himself into form.
  8. A F1 reference for Buxtons speed. Good one.
  9. Wallner is in no position for a "notoriously slow starts". In the minors as a prospect you have that luxury. Not so much on the major league level. Unless you've built up equity. He hasn't yet. And you mentioned 3 outfielders. 2 projected as starters. If all 3 start off slowly. That won't bode well. Unless the reinvigorated Buxton and Correa and mvp candidate Lewis are doing max damage as heavy haulers.
  10. Not the way I saw the season. The only regular who fixed the choke problem on the carburetor was Kepler. Kepler got hot. Miranda was put on the IL. Larnach was demoted. Correa never got going. Buxton and Gallo contributed early and fell off. Polanco was steady after starting on the IL . The offense kicked in with the infusion of Lewis, Wallner, and Julien. Farmer, Solano, Castro, and Taylor were the only guys who started the season with the club who were steady all year. And the plan for those 4 guys to start the season was as role players.
  11. And if the bullpen is not dependable then one would tend to stick with the horses a little longer. Which is the lesser of two weevils?
  12. Well they haven't hit double digits yet. So the spikes are safe for now.
  13. Isn't that the same number as last year?
  14. What are they counting? And have they taken their shoes off yet?
  15. Twins A squad was outscored by Jays B team. They're just working out the kinks.
  16. I'm not suggesting a conspiracy. And I'll even acknowledge that they misdiagnosed initially. I remember Rocco saying that he wasn't where he needed to be when he was asked about Buxton returning to CF. That was May if I'm not mistaken. Buxton continued to go downhill performance wise. And yet they still acted like he would rejoin them after he was I Led in Aug. Did a short rehab stint in st. Paul before they shut him down. Then activated him for the last playoff game. His procedure was shortly after the season ended. So somewhere in that time frame they figured it out. Bummer either way. The problem I have is that the Twins put a 1 legged man out there until they realized he couldn't help them.
  17. They seem to do that a lot. I wouldn't let them treat my pet gator. They'd tell me he's a frog.
  18. I don't believe that for 1 second. Buxton said this spring. That last spring it felt like a knife in his knee coming into 2023. That's not what the Twins were saying at all. They were the Kevin Bacon character in Animal House. Let's see. Training camp starts in February. And they misdiagnosed all the way through the season and shortly after the season ends they remove the plica. I'm not buying it.
  19. I demand a recount. For what purpose? I know not. Just felt like demanding something. But seriously, great job. Hoping for big things in the coming season. 👍
  20. You just validated my point. Baseball Reference has Buxton and Betts WAR at 21 and 64.5. That more than a 10% difference. So which one is correct? How can you do math if the variables are different? That's my problem with metrics. And you can't say, well the value is X. But when your negotiating contracts it's not really X it's Y because the money's guaranteed.
  21. Just because you put a value on it doesn't mean it's accurate. I'll use Betts again. He has 9 years of service and has avg over 7 WAR for his career. If each WAR is valued at your 8 million figure, it would factor in contract negotiations. So they use projections for future WAR which isn't accurate either. His contract is for 12 year for 300 million plus he got 65 million to sign. Some of it is deferred. If he avg just a 4 WAR that's 32 million per year. So where does 8 million per WAR come from. And don't use double speak. It's not an accurate figure for value.
  22. OK. But last years narrative was Buxton was rehabbing and they were bringing him along slowly to eventually get back in CF. This year they're saying Buxton was only playing on one leg last year. What happened?
  23. Wasn't Paparesta policing last year? He should have been shut down last spring. He would be as healthy as he is now going into last years playoffs.
  24. Where do you get the numbers that Buxton has provided 151 million dollars of value while earning 36 million? Those are made up numbers no matter how you value WAR. if that's the case. Mookie Betts has provided 500 million worth of value. What has he earned? 100 million plus? Idk. But you can't say 1 WAR is worth X. It doesn't work. Now when these guys careers are winding down and their numbers aren't what they were in their prime it will look like the exact opposite. Buxton to be really helpful needs to stay healthy and perform. Instead of being streaky good, how about consistently good. Forget the notion of 20 or 30 steals he's been talking about. Stay on the field.
  25. What rabbit hole? The Twins have tried used up arms in the past. Shoemaker, Happ, Archer and others. Bauer might actually have something left in the tank. My question is why not Bauer. If he is a cancer. Cut ties. Easy peazy lemon squeezy. But the public would howl so it won't happen. Plain and simple.
