  1. He has all the leverage right now on the twins. Somebody is going to over pay for him this off-season when teams are bidding against each other. Twins best bet is to trade him and get the best offer possible. I think the twins window for extending him passed in June. It's too late now, but that doesn't mean he can't be flipped for a nice prospect.
  2. You can't make the argument that a manager can't be held accountable for W/L when they are directly responsible for who plays and who doesn't. Sure, the 25-man roster hasn't be good and its highly unlikely a different manager would have made any of those teams a .500 team. The problem is, you and I don't know that for sure. What I do know, is what I've seen from him over the years. You can't simply "throw out" past occurrences. If you don't want any blame put on Gardy, fine. Put it on Terry Ryan then. And take him out of his role. I say they both deserve blame and both need to be let go after the season.
  3. So wise one, I'm interested to hear your argument for gardenhire. In his body of work, what has he done to make you defend him so strongly? Not only that, but deny an obviously and well documented weakness? I don't get it. I don't hate gardy, but it's time to move on. The terrible seasons combined with botched games when the team was good are pretty tough to ignore. The current regime of this organization are just succeeding. You want to keep losing and give them longer.. whatever. Some of us are ready for a change.
  4. The arguments for Ryan and Gardy are tiresome. If you choose to look past the record of futility in the playoffs, and look past the last 4 seasons of embarrassing baseball, nobody can sway you. People get fired for less. Continuing the good ole boys club only continues the results we've had. Its obvious to me and many others that this regime is not going to bring in a championship. A change needs to be made, because it is necessary.
  5. Give me a break Dave. How long does this pair get to lose before bringing new people in? Putting aside the historically bad playoff record, this team has been terrible for 4 seasons now. You can try to suggest Ryan is building on prospects, but that doesn't mean he gets an endless leash.
  6. I think it could go either way with those comments. Another 90 loss season would be tough to stomach for everybody. At some point you have to acknowledge whatever you've been doing lately just isn't working. I'm glad he points out that prospects are prospects and they haven't proven anything yet. He seems a lot more connected to this team than many have given him credit for in the past. I wouldn't be surprised to see him go either way with the front office in the off season.
  7. This is pointless. Meyer and May aren't coming up ever. In fact, I'm starting to doubt they aren't even real. They are an elaborate hoax created by the Twins to keep fans interested. I'm not fooled anymore. This circus is over boys! I feel a whole lot better knowing they aren't actually real.
  8. This is really surprising that Berrios is that high. KLaw doesn't like the height issue with him for sure, but he must see enough stuff to rank him this high.
  9. Brock, a lot of that has to do with defense. Plouffe already has 1.6 WAR on the year, and I'm expecting a big second half from him (if he stays healthy). Across the board he is a better player this year. He is hitting balls hard and playing solid defense. His patience at the plate is getting better too. When you look at advanced metrics for him something has to give. He is posting career high LD%, career low HR/FB and IF/FB (significantly less than previously in the worst kind of contact); all the while he has maintained a similar BaBIP and AVG. These will go up along with the number of HR's he hits. We might be having a very different discussion in 2 months. Why is everyone so convinced Sano is going to push him off the position? I'm not. Sano is will probably be great, but he has contact issue and might get too big for the position. Have we all forgotten Sano's faults? He wouldn't be the first uber prospect to fail. If you're the Twins you don't put all your eggs in the Sano basket. He is going to play the whole season in AA/AAA next year unless he puts up a 1.000 OPS for a half the season. When that happens you worry about moving a solid player. There is only a dozen guys in MLB that are better at 3b. Plouffe is being sold very short on this thread. I hope my predictions come true and he has a big second half.
  10. Twins could learn a thing or two.
  11. Sounds like a bunch of crying little bitches to me. Obviously the personalities didn't mix. AJ wasn't welcome in SF either. I don't remember much negativity about him in the clubhouse when he was with the Twins or the White Sox.
  12. Really? Do you have any examples of a guy they "cleaned up?" Because I can think of several guys that they tried and failed. I'm not knocking them for continuing to try this approach, because you miss 100% of the shots you don't take. At this point it is just an interesting story.
  13. I voted Plouffe. He has a 26% LD rate and a 4.7% HR/FB. In 2012 this number was 14.5% and 2013 7.3%. At some point all those doubles he's been hitting will turn into HR's.... I hope. I am contemplating writing a blog about his sneaky progress this season.
  14. Wow that delivery is bad. Sounds like he has some good stuff in that FB and SL. Hopefully the Twins find a way to get through to this guy. They really haven't had much success with these types, so I wouldn't hold my breath.
  15. He's gotten ok results thus far. You really think it's sustainable? I don't. I certainly hope the twins don't, and many other posters don't. Why do you think a career aaaa pitcher is a better option than a young guy without giving them a chance. We know what we have in pino, and it isn't a guy that should be on a 25 man roster a competing team. I want to win as much as anybody. In order to do that the twins prospects have to develop and be given shots to succeed. You seen to be under the impression that young guys can't succeed right away. You are wrong. It happens every year. Even not highly regarded prospects can come up and dominate (neshek is a good example). Continuing to run out guys with marginal talent will only give marginal results. Plus, young players generally need an adjustment period. While they can be successful right away, most players need to adjust. Leaving a player in aaa when they are to that point does them no good. Gibson, May, Meyer, parmelee and even Hendriks have all been kept in aaa too long in my opinion. You don't learn to be successful in the mlb playing in aaa.
  16. Not just contact, but pretty solid at that. Looked like all fastballs too.
  17. Hope nobody blinked. Meyer with a 5 pitch inning.
  18. That was effortless.
  19. Thanks for the link. Looks like a lot of people there to me. Wish I could have caught Berrios pitching...
  20. I'd like to see how the Twins compare to other teams in International signings. They have an impressive laundry list of player/prospects right now. I think this is an area the Twins are doing extremely well in right now and I wouldn't criticize them at all.
  21. Pino looks like a guy that will provide some nice depth to the organization. Pretty soon May will be a fixture, and Meyer should be except the inning limit might prevent that this year. He seems like a good option when you need a few starts when someone goes down, or needs to be sent down.
  22. Forgot to ask if there is any statistic that makes duensing look more appealing in trades? And if you've ever tried to "sweeten the pot" with him?
  23. I have a good and simple one for you Jack. What are some of the most difficult challenges you face in your position? We all like to act as if decisions are so easy and clear, but we know that isn't the truth and I'm interested what parts of your duties are the most difficult.
  24. I missed all the fun! I got a few for you Jack. First, do you consider WAR, especially combining WAR from year to year, a good way of evaluating a player's worth? Second, do you do any type of work with players/coaches on the Twins to help improve current players? Like a type of internal scouting? Going to bed, I'll post some better ones in the morning.
