  1. This is impressive.... I don't have any money besides my 401k and Roth in the market now, so this doesn't affect me too much. I am going to start a few 529 plans soon though.
  2. We got into approval ratings and midterm potential in the other thread, but I want to migrate that topic here. The Nunes memo seems a lot to do about nothing. Nobody except Trump seems to be taking it seriously. Even on the faux news website, they provide the disclaimer many gop officials and the fbi discredit it. It provides fodder for the base, but not much. The Democrat lead is narrowing right now, but what happens when more Russia indictments start happening? Or am obstruction case moves forward? None of it matters if the democrats don't get organized and push good candidates.
  3. Thanks for posting. My wife is passionate about this topic and will appreciate it too. Sex trafficking is a real tragedy. With the option of tinder like apps, hopefully people can find other ways to be promiscuous without damaging the lives of young women or men.
  4. Mike, why are you such a big proponent in lowering taxes and smaller government? Do you see the benefits a single payer health system would provide, especially lowering costs? Like Levi, I leaned more libertarian up until a few years ago. Thing is, we need government to do things in our country, they need money for that. Improving the lives of the poor and lower middle class helps everyone, including the wealthy/corporations. I don't buy the montra of lowering taxes. Corporations are setting records for profits, they could pay employees more of they wanted, but they don't. They only wages rising are executive wages, because they control everything. Plus, upward mobility is a joke in our country right now. Middle class people generally aren't able to break into that elite class, it's almost like the good old boys club in many cases.
  5. Again, nothing matters anymore. The president blatantly lies during his state of the union, and tweets afterward, and his supporters don't care. It's like the twilight zone. I feel like if I ran for office, it would be mandatory to lie now. I couldn't win or keep supporters by telling the truth all the time!
  6. The last month has given republicans more hope in the midterms. All these states congressional maps being thrown out is going to have a huge impact. If democrats get fair maps in states like Pennsylvania... there could be a huge swing. I think the democrats are best to barely take the house, and even it up in the Senate. I don't think winning both chambers will help in 2020, and only having power in the house will work to their advantage. They should want to stop the bleeding now, and slaughter the pig in 2020 with the census and new maps being drawn. For the gop, there will be a judgement day. The base is leading them further away from the center/truth/reason. If Romney runs for Senate, they will gain a huge boost from him. The louder and more people listening to the extreme end of the party the worse off they are. Their demographic is changing to a flighty demographic that relies on memes on Facebook for info, and the ultra wealthy that prosper at the peril of others.
  7. The economy is going to eventually stall. There is enough reason to believe the Dow is over inflated now. If the tax cuts don't translate into higher pay and faster growth, it isn't going to play well. There will be a lot more momentum in 6 months. Just wait until Trump starts campaigning or being asked not to campaign. The house should swing, the Senate is up in the air.
  8. Why is there a consensus that Waynes is good? I'd put him average. Still, even if he is good, you need another average corner. A great corner, good corner, and disasters is not good enough. Add another at least average corner, a good d lineman and see how the defense looks. The offense is pretty clear too. The line struggled despite playing well all year. Maybe an upgrade at guard. Cook will be back, and will hopefully add another dimension Murray and McKinnon don't have. I don't see diggs and theilen being big time guys. There are obviously flaws with keenum too. I don't think there is a contest between teddy, Bradford or keenum. Keenum wins that job. It should be keenum vs a free agent, and at a good price.
  9. Exactly my take. This is a good defense, but Sandejo has been bad all year, regardless what Paul Allen says. Between him and Waynes, plays are always made in them. Smith even took a step back. Regardless, I put this big of a loss on Zimmer. This doesn't happen to elite coaches. Look what happened when they Steelers, Patriots, Saints got down by a lot... They stopped the bleeding and pulled the game into reach. This was a flat out disaster for this defense. 38 unanswered points. The defense has some soft spots, but putting your offense down big against an equally solid defense is a death sentence. See what they do with the qb situation. I want no part of teddy or Bradford. Go with keenum or find someone else. Keenum was one of the top qbs this year, and won a bunch of games. Sticky spot for Spielman.
  10. It goes both ways Mike. The house passed an abomination of a bill, that they knew would be Next to impossible to pass the Senate. The shutdown is their fault. The win elections argument is valid here too... if you don't want to govern and compromise then win an outright majority. There has been months to get this figured out, and a democrats concerns haven't been heard at all. This bipartisan immigration bill keeps getting broken down by pressure from the far right. Jeff flake, and other (sane) republicans were promised a daca bill for voting for the corporate tax cuts. Hasn't happened. Would you continue to give concessions to people that don't hold up their end of a deal? At what point do you stop? Trump and the republicans are in a tough spot because of their big mouths. All of the blame went to Obama and democrats last time, and people aren't idiots. The Trump base doesn't care what he does, they will always, adamantly, and with vile hatred, blame democrats. This is a PR game. Seems to be about even at this point. The Schumer shutdown slogan is catchy. I'm not sure how I would spin it if I was the dems.
  11. Not a surprise democrats are following the lead set by republicans and now the government is shut down. Slightly different situation, as republicans were trying to get an ObamaCare repeal in the budget, and dems are pressing the issue of immigration. I really don't see why republicans proceeded south a bill dems wouldn't vote for. Dems have the leverage since they are not in control of any branch.
  12. Why would Norwegian people want to come here? So they can have more expensive health care, more crime, less pay, less benefits at their job.... I don't see the incentive.
  13. First, I went to high school in Anoka and never called Blaine, Coon Rapids, or Champlin a ****hole. There are countries in this world that are not first world countries, that are predominantly made of non white people, where the people live off what we'd consider crumbs. That doesn't make them less than a white European making more money than the average American. Our president, whom used to be considered the leader of the free world, calling any country a ****hole is a disgrace. The people defending it, you included, should take a hard look at how blessed they are to have been born in the USA. The people of Haiti didn't choose to be born into poverty, the people of Sudan didn't choose to be born into an unstable region. As the strongest military power in the world, the largest economy in the world, the richest people in the world, and the strongest advocate for democracy in the world, calling any country a ****hole is unacceptable. Words and facts matter. Republicans at that meeting dodging the statements by Trump are cowards. The longer this presidency goes on, the more respect the Republican party is losing. The next 2 elections are going to be a blood bath.
  14. I have e^i(pie)+1=0 on my thigh. Props if you know that equation. I also have 4 more... Need more.
  15. Really thinking Vancouver. We have 4 elementary school aged kids, so it seems like a better fit. We still need to sell our house, so there are a few things yet to sort out.
  16. Who has this guy's ear? He said verbatim, I'll sign whatever you guys in this room come up with. They came to him with an agreed upon proposal, he rejects it and says no **** hole countries (countries where Brown people come from). That is exactly what a Bannon influence would be, and I bet the Breitbart base loved it.
  17. This book is going to take the drama up a notch it seems. Trump now claims Bannon cried when he got fired and is a loser. If there was one guy Trump doesn't want to turn on him, it's Bannon. The brietbart people are his stronghold. They are anti establishment, conspiracy theorist, racist, sexist, white males. Of course I'm unfairly categorizing this demographic, and not all fit in every box. Anyway, a fissure with this group and Trump / faux news would be very bad for Trump and the gop at large. The Roy Moore candidacy will only be a start. At some point, the gop will have to decide if trying to hold on to draconian ideas is worth losing elections.
  18. A scar for sure. The problem is, the rest of the world knows that our country elected him. It isn't like how Putin came to power, this was the American people. Also, they think our electoral college is really stupid. Regardless, this 4 years is going to cause some distrust towards Americans globally.
  19. I'm planning on moving just north of Portland this summer... Days like today make me hesitate. The Russia investigation must be hitting the right places. CNN says Trump is obsessed with it. Bannon says Trump Jr had a treasonous meeting. Trump hates Bannon now. We are absolutely being laughed at over seas, and the American brand is decaying rapidly.
  20. Trump in a grumpy mood. Wagging war against the DOJ and arguing over the size of his button with Kim Jung Un... again. Honestly, why does he care what that little maggot has to say? The base continues to be more concerned with deep state FBI and Hillary Clinton. What the hell is wrong with people? That was rhetorical...
  21. Kanye West (mostly kidding) partisan politics Gerrymandering restrictions to streaming sports Inability to stream local news science skepticism
  22. I was going to say the same. The premise was fun, but the execution was absolutely awful. How in earth did Will Smith get talked into this movie?
  23. Yes. The force awakens incorporated it much more effectively. This time around, it feels forced (hehe). I just didn't feel as invested in this story for some reason. I'm sure I'll watch it many more times and maybe my thoughts will change. To me, it felt predictable and reused.
  24. Just watched it. I think there was some really well done parts, some really predictable parts, and a lack of character depth. I thought it was ok, but not on par with force awakens. The director and editor shouldn't do this series ever again. I really find the nostalgia distracting. The character development was so good in force awakens and rogue one, that was a really disappointing thing for me. In all the great movies like this, the characters make the movie, everytime. This wasn't a let down like episode 3, but it could have been better. Are we going to do a spoiler thread too so we can discuss parts we liked and parts we didn't?
  25. Spoiling. I am kidding though, I saw the disclaimer and didn't read it.
