  1. Lets not get into Hicks. I hate every moment of him on the Twins. Arcia is adjusting (hopefully). I'm not sure what their exact reasons have been for sending him down, but they have a plan. I doubt he'll be down much longer than he needs to be. This season is a learning year for him so bouncing back and forth a few times isn't going to hurt him. Next year will be a different story.
  2. The Twins received a good deal for the AJ trade because he was a young, All-Star catcher. Unless Morneau starts hitting better, he is not even worth a "lottery ticket." Nathan, and Liriano were both high upside players. Nathan was a failed starter and Liriano had control problems and injury concerns. If Ryan had been offered the right deal he would have pulled the trigger. My guess, is that teams wanted him to pay salary while only giving up a prospect that wouldn't break our top 25 (seriously, would you give up one of our top 25 for Morneau? I wouldn't). So this argument is redundant. He starts showing some signs of life and a deal will be made in August.
  3. Oh happy day, happy day You washed my sin away Oh happy day, happy day I'll never be the same Forever I am changed
  4. I hope to Joe Baby Jesus Mauer that hitting the other way isn't his problem.
  5. The bad teams have had less assets to trade. There is no Sabathia or Grienke dangling.
  6. You both know what waivers are right? If a team claims him they have 48 hours to make a trade or the Twins can pull him back. The Twins aren't powerless if he is claimed. The other team also has to pay the entire salary remaining. I would be extremely surprised if he didn't pass through it. Much better players have passed in previous years.
  7. I hope you're kidding? He passes waivers faster than aunt Sally at a buffet. He doesn't get traded he will placed immediately on waivers to allow him to pass through quickly and be available immediately.
  8. Thanks for the compilation psuedo. I'm not a twitter guy and don't want it for the 2 times of the year I feel it is relevant (MLB deadling and NFL draft).
  9. Define "potentially valuable." I would trade a BP pitcher for Morneau, that is kinda potentially valuable. Morneau is probably not being traded because he is one of the worst 1b in the league, not even mentioning the financial obligation. He isn't worth anything right now, GMs have no reason to trade a potential MLB player (i.e. top 10 in organization type prospect). This is why it is depressing. Not too long ago he was considered one of the best hitters in the game, young, a leader on a playoff team. Now, he isn't even worth a marginal prospect across the league. I hope he can turn his career around and be productive for a few more years, but he is showing little signs of doing that.
  10. He has really been disappointing this season. If the Twins wont eat salary there is no way anyone trades for him. He's been one of the worst 1b in the entire league. Tough way to end his career as a Twin.
  11. My sentiments exactly. Don't see why the Sox would make this move other than to save some payroll. Guess they are in fire-sale mode. They are my pick to have the number 1 pick in the draft.
  12. There has to be some sort of adjustment he needs to make.... or a "distraction."
  13. Still a hater. He has been on thin ice all year and I highly doubt he will sustain this going forward. Fun story, but.... I'm a hater.
  14. In the midst of a 3-30 slide an ugly July, Plouffe is not making a very good case right now. He is a funny player to me. When I look at his advanced stats, I can't believe that it doesn't show up in his results. His LD% is amazingly high (25%!!) which has led to a higher BABIP this year (.284) compared to last year (.244). To put it in perspective, Joe Mauer has a career average 23% LD%. So, Plouffe has been making some pretty good contact that isn't being reflected right now. Also, progress has been made by less IFFB (infield fly ball), which is the worst type of contact a player can make. What is making the difference? Looking deeper Plouffe is also showing better plate discipline by swinging at less pitches outside the zone. However, he is also swinging at a significantly less amount of balls inside the zone. So, if he's swinging at less inside the zone and outside the zone, he's just simply swinging less. So plate discipline really isn't to blame. If I was a stock broker, I'd be buying on Plouffe right now. I think he will have a better month of August and really turn some things around.
  15. Anderson's time has passed. So has Gardy's and Ryan's IMO. I'm not going to point at the curious case of Liriano as my breaking point. I'm going to suggest the game has passed them all by. To Ryan's credit, he has the best farm system in baseball right now looking to bring the team back to credibility. Say what you want about where responsibilities fall, but this season has been a complete disappointment. I wont be surprised either way Ryan decides to go with the coaching staff. I'd like a change, many others would like a change, it all just depends on if Ryan wants one too.
  16. I'm not surprised they are playing him a little there. The OF will hopefully be pretty filled by the time he is ready while 1b might be open for the taking if Sano can stay at 3b.
  17. Its ok. They are both Minnesotan, but the 2nd goes a little far lol.
  18. Who are you going to trade!? Morneau: one of the worst 1b in the league with a huge contract.... RP: any of the RP the Twins have now not named Perkins hasn't built enough equity to be worth much Perkins: young, good, controlled contract at team friendly price.... high asking price, might still get dealt with the right offer
  19. It makes no sense to trade a guy that is a legit MLB player (example: Burton) for a guy that has little chance of making any kind of impact down the road. Get a good prospect and it makes sense, trading just to get a warm body does not. GM's are not stupid. You all are assuming Ryan isn't making a trade because he is tight? He hasn't made a trade because he hasn't been offered a good enough deal. Teams don't just panic and give away players that have a shot at a future in their organization (unless you're Bill Smith).
  20. Stop. The Twins organization will never have a fire sale. Organizations that respect their fans don't do this. They will move players that make sense, not move them because they have nothing better to do.
  21. I'd rather watch Pelfry put up a 4.5 ERA the rest of the season than trade him now for a prospect that has a ceiling of a back-up. Those guys have little value and are already abundant in the system. While I agree about getting talent, no GM will give anything of value for Pelfry right now. I also place value in watching an acceptable baseball team play. Keeping a few guys that make that happen isn't a bad thing.
  22. Move guys for the hell of it? You don't just trade guys because your team sucks. In order to get better you have to make better baseball decisions than in the past. I agree that part of that wasn't trading Cuddy and Kubel when he had the chance, but this year is different. The only real trade-able pieces are Morneau, Burton, Fien, Pressley and Perkins. The only real payroll consideration is Morneau, and he is no longer the big Canadian. Unless he makes some kind of great turn-around elsewhere, he might not be in baseball much longer.
  23. This is the perfect situation for Ryan. He has all the leverage right now. His asking price has to be high.
  24. All the aforementioned guys need to be protected. Teams like the Cubs (just guessing with Theo there), Marlins, Astros would be willing to stash a guy for a year if they thought they will get something out of them in the future. As for Wimmers. I don't see the point in limiting him to A+ this season. Age and the fact he needs to be protected on the 40 man next year should play into this. He has to see AA this season IMO. Even if he struggles some, that is where he needs to end the year and start the year next season. Hopefully he will get some AFL time similar to Gibson too. If things go right, perhaps we could get a look with the Twins by the end of next season.
