Not a chance Pedro is on the 40 man in 2 years.
  2. Punto was misused. That was the problem. Put him in Carroll's role and we would have loved him. Give him 500 AB's a year... majority at 3b... and people are going to scream.
  3. Liam is still 24. Younger than Gibson and only 7 months older than Trevor May. I think there is still hope. I'm still hopeful he can figure it out and become a solid part of the rotation. If Diamond and Pelfrey get to suck for half a season in the rotation, I'm not sure what is stopping them from allowing Hendriks to get an extended look.
  4. What has changed? To me, coddling of pitchers and crybaby attitudes. Many people get tired of Bert's rambling about his philosophies, but I would love that attitude in players/coaches. Talent has to be a factor too. I can't get over how much terrible luck the Twins have had with injuries and wonder why is happening. I don't pay enough attention to other teams' injuries to know how widespread this is.
  5. At the time, there was a ton of praise. After seeing him play for 2 weeks, there was a ton of hate. The scouts that thought he would be able to adjust were way off. Cubans have had way more success in the MLB as a whole than Japanese players too... especially recently. The Twins dropped the ball scouting Nishi and as a consequence sent one of the best SS in the league packing. It was a complete blunder. This is a different scenario. The Twins have a hole, and the money to plug it for the next 5 years. If this guy doesn't turn out to be Tulo it isn't going to cripple the organization. Plus, if he can't stick at SS they can move him to 1b (if his bat plays up).
  6. This party just keeps falling further and further off the deep end. I don't get what they are trying to do here.
  7. That is only Plouffe's 9th error this season? That is pretty surprising.
  8. Its only been about a month since I updated, so I'll go right ahead and throw down. Felix had a nice outing tonight after a little run of rough starts. 7 IP 4h 2er 2bb 7K was his line tonight. Updated season stat line: 41.1 IP 39h 13bb 45K 3.17 ERA 1.26 WHIP I still hope he gets to see time in Cedar Rapids this year. If he keeps putting up starts like tonight he will be making a good case for it.
  9. I hope nobody is ready to give up on May in the rotation. If nothing else, he's shown progress this season. He has the stuff to make it as a starter and I hope the Twins are showing him the right things to groom him. Progress could be better, but I'd give him a while longer before pulling him from the rotation.
  10. It goes both ways. Put those guys in this era with the technology and knowledge and they would excel too. Bert wouldn't make it to the bigs as quickly as he did, but I would guess he still would have a great amount of success.
  11. Gibson wont be pitching by September. Hopefully he can have a nice outing the next start and end his season on a good note. I suspect Hendriks is ahead of Diamond at this point. Colabiesie and Hermsie will be the guys optioned most likely. I wish they'd give Colabiesie a real shot, but alas, this isn't Cinderelasie.
  12. Comparing Sano to Hicks isn't even a conversation. They are completely different players with completely different tools/deficiencies. The only thing they'd have in common is skipping AAA and getting their first taste of the bigs. Obviously Sano might struggle a little at first, but like Arcia, you'd see real flashes of the potential. I'm not as confident about Hicks. Hopeful, but not confident.
  13. I didn't sulk through those years John. I'm much younger (cooler too?), born in 85'. I grew up on Kirby Puckett and Chuck Knoblauch. My favorite baseball memory as a kid was asking Chuck how old his glove was and why it was so little. We had a regular 5 minute convo while he was warming up by left field in the dome. Baseball season just feels like it has gone through the motions. Not too long ago I probably watched almost 100 games a year, never wanting to miss a game. Passionate Baseball fans I feel are different from any other fan. We stay through the tough spots and find any silver lining to cling to, value and keeps us watching. I can't wait until we get to have 10 page threads of playoff rosters and pulling Joe Nathan too early/not early enough. Those are fun. Only a month and a half left, and we get to do this all over again.
  14. As I sit here tonight not being able to watch a game (haven't really cared if I do or if I don't lately... sad). I'm just thinking about how long the last several seasons have been. The losing amplifies the frustrating moves or the frustrating players. Man I wish for meaningful baseball again.
  15. Yes it was. Him clearing waivers is not a sign that Terry Ryan made a good move. He got lucky this time.
  16. I'm not a fan of Gardy, but this goes a little far. I don't like how he's handled young guys in the past, but he's handled Arcia pretty well IMO. He also gave Hicks way more leash than he deserved. I'd like to move on from Gardy too, but not because he's a terrible manager and messed up the team. Lets look at things objectively.
  17. If that was the return for Butera, what would be the return for Doumit? I get that Butera has defensive value for a contender, but I would think Doumit would have far more value. I can see him being moved this offseason if Pinto is given some AB's this September.
  18. I'm torn about bringing him up. Plouffe will have the rest of this month and still the majority of September to prove his worth, so bringing Sano or (more likely) Romero up for a coffee would be to give them a taste. Similar to Benson and Parmelee, I don't think this is too far fetched at all. The 40-man thing might be a hindrance, but if they are planning on him taking over 3b sometime next season (better be) they are going to have to add him anyway. I'd like to see him get the call in September just to see MLB pitchers. The game will be different and getting a taste will only make him better. He should still start the season in AAA until his arb clock is past in May. Then call him up and keep him up for good. Plouffe will need to start producing a little more to garner a starting spot. I doubt the Twins dump him anytime soon since he is cheap, provides position flexibility, and has some pop in his bat.
  19. Wow you guys are really hopeful of Buxton's power. I don't think I've ever seen anyone say he has that much power potential. Like Steve, I'm in the camp of 20 HR, 30 2b and 20 3b. Add 50 SB and you got yourself a pretty potent offensive threat. His .404 OBP in 2013 is what is really impressive right now.
  20. A 3.22 ERA!!! As much as I would love that, lets be realistic here. I would like to see an ERA just under 4.5 from him. That would be a solid first year contribution. Anything from 4 to 4.5 is going to fluctuate based on luck so if he can sit anywhere in there I'd be pretty happy.
  21. I would disagree with him doing a good job in the 00's. Actually, I think he did a pretty poor job of finding talent like he has lately. Those teams really only needed a few pieces to play at an acceptable level, and he failed to find those pieces miserably. From RonDL White, to Tony Batista to Sidney Ponson, these guys were not good investments or even attempts at an investment. His forte seems to be finding guys to succeed in the bullpen. Lately he has found more talent in guys like Thomas and Colabello so perhaps he is getting better at this. When the big time talent starts trickling into the MLB roster I hope he can continue to find useful pieces, because those are the guys that can make the difference in winning championships.
  22. Possible. He was completely terrible in July though, so there wasn't much saying he was going to hit 7 homers in 2 weeks.
  23. The point is to clear waivers and not get claimed. Putting him on waivers now is the absolute worst timing possible (considering his homer binge). That is why it is a blunder. He clears waivers in early August and Terry Ryan would be negotiating trades right now instead of praying he doesn't get claimed.
