  1. What do you think of the return the Twins got for Drew Butera? Klaw (2:13 PM) Fringe reliever prospect - 5'10", 88-91, change for average breaking ball, but unlikely to ever be more than a middle reliever. That said, way too much to give up for Butera.
  2. Whether or not the quality is there in FA is certainly arguable, but the Twins will still go out and acquire all kinds of arms to compete with the guys you list above. I don't think there's one spot guaranteed for next year, even for Deduno and Gibson.
  3. They are better than we feared. They are back to playing watchable baseball, after a very dark time in July.
  4. No, it's not probably or realistic, it's totally cynical. There's no way the Twins don't go out and at the very least acquire a bevy of other options (from bad to mediocre to injury-recovering). And likely, they'll do more than that.
  5. Oh boy, more painting the worse case scenario as the likely outcome! The Twins added four starting pitchers last offseason (Pelfry, Correia, Harden, Worley). At the very least they will repeat last years crapshoot model. But with all the money coming off the books, many of us are hoping for more than that.
  6. From Warne's column today:
  7. Unlikely, they'll still have 48hours to work out a trade. Rios continued to play for the Sox after the Rangers had claimed him.
  8. Could be Morneau's last game as a Twinkie.
  9. Lamb was just promoted to AAA so that might be a really good get.
  10. I don't think that's a given at all.
  11. Sano with his 30th homerun of the season.
  12. Yet another indication that Ryan doesn't know what he's doing.
  13. I've thought about it some more and I think I know what the Twins were thinking about waiting to put Justin on waivers. We've been assuming that Justin would pass through waivers. I'm guessing the Twins didn't want to take the chance that he'd get claimed while he was producing so poorly. (Say the Yankees or Rangers may have been willing to claim despite his contract, just to take the chance on his production).
  14. People can be both gracious and narcissistic, as I said I think Morneausy has demonstrated plenty of good will and isn't phoney at all. That said, I remember Justin's wry smile during that interview, and as you say, pretty classy.
  15. I am awful at all of them. Anyone who's seen me type monster posts knows how sloppy my brain works. It's a wonder that people don't believe I'm partially retarded. Typo-tarded?
  16. Morneau and Hunter have strong personalities, both seem to have a sense of leadership, loyalty, and goodwill. Neither strikes me as phoney, even if both are pretty full of themselves. That said, people with prominent personalities and different ideas of what leadership and goodwill look like will clash under high stress. Too many cooks in the kitchen scenario.
  17. Right. I'm trying to think of any benefit from waiting until he was hot to put him on waivers, but I really can't. Is his contract really that big of a factor (both in terms of his likelihood of being claimed and ownerships desire to move him)? It makes me worry that if he is traded, it will be all about the money.
  18. Here's a list of teams in order of the chance they have to claim him. Given his streak, it's not clear that he will make it through waivers. Yankees Indians Royals Orioles Rays As Rangers Tigers Boston NL Teams All these teams have need for Morneau (some more than others) save the Royals, Tigers, and Redsox. Any realistic 'specs you guys like off some top 20 lists? (Link to prospect lists for ease)
  19. I have such mixed feelings about this. If they can't land more than a PTBNL, I'd rather just keep him, and explore resigning him on the cheap after the season. Honestly, I can't see him netting a top 10 prospect from a team, and less than that it's hardly worth it (to me).
  20. Mediocre pitchers who eat innings and stay healthy have value, who knew.
  21. Sano goes yard in his first at bat.
  22. I'm not sure how you can continue to expect people to take you seriously when you answer this so glibly. The challenge is targeting specific players, the Twins have their own top 30 list, and it might look nothing like 'whatever scouting sites' we might prefer. The notion that the Twins are purposedly screwing this up because they are cheap, or that they are being negligent, just seems off-base and ill-intended given the recent past. The signing period isn't even done yet (I believe).
  23. I'm sure jim does too (not that I should speak for him). But really, we all use our own personal probablistic model, which we base on all kinds of information (statistical and otherwise), which, again, we all weigh differently. For some of us, investing in debatably above average options isn't worth the risk.
  24. Weird. That list is from the official site. Maybe it's dated or something
  25. There simply is too much unknown about both the players and the process to get worked about this. Don't confuse headlines with results, guys.
