  1. So Book it? Or is this thread like other of your threads.... All the best, really. Remember that your happiness matters, too.
  2. Why not next year? Advanced college hitters can move quickly through a system, though all don't succeed. This is totally optimistic. I hope he'll be ready shortly after Mauer leaves after 2018 (or Mauer stays at severely reduced salary and role).
  3. I was thinking maybe they saved on both Lewis and Rooker, and the combined savings were necessary to net Carlson. Is Doogie speculating or sourcing?
  4. Gotta be Carlson for the first pick in the second round, right?
  5. It's clear the Twins were not in love with any of the options at the top. So picking a player they like just as much with less risk (as non-pitcher), and saving money to get two more guys they want at 35 and 37 makes a lot of sense to me. As the margins between slots gets tighter and tighter, whatever money the Twins were able to save will have greater leverage as the draft moves into even later rounds. I'm excited to see what they get at 35 and 37, but the Twins set themselves up to get high upside players throughout the draft. There's a clear logic, that can work to the Twins benefit. Of course the actual players will determine the success of the draft, but the blueprint itself has no logical flaws. It mitigates the risk of drafting a pitcher number one while giving more flexibility and leverage throughout the rest of the draft.
  6. https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/871331574649901056 Couple days late on this. But why aren't we talking about how many less are dead because they didn't have assault weapons?
  7. What value does Wheeler have to the Dodgers? Is there depth so limited that even without Stewart, and now Wood, that Wheeler will help in some way? Whatever the case, there's a working relationship there, evidently, post Dozier non-trade.
  8. (If it wasn't clear) I meant for Trump. I see a serious of desperate and more desperate acts. I think we are getting pretty close to the moment in the movie where the bad guy, bloody and battered, against an indefensible position, throws his last grenade, which careens off a wall and back into his hands.
  9. I see it more as a death spiral. That's my sunny optimism though.
  10. I thought Josh Marshall's analysis on what, in part, motivated Trump to ditch the Paris Agreement, was pretty spot on.
  11. As exemplified by the Hicks and Meyer threads in this forum, reaffirmation is sought by both those who were for and those who against a given trade/non-trade. It's simply rare that people move off their original assessments, even in the face of disfavorable facts. The ole knowing-what-I-knew-at-the-time justification.
  12. Did I say you could speak? Get back to your mother's basement, buddy.
  13. Pitching depth is a maddeningly problem (especially and obviously in the bullpen). The FO did not do enough to address the depth in the offseason. (Clearly, Falvey/Levine didn't really believe they had a competitive team, or else they would have spent more to assess obvious ML weaknesses.) This is especially offensive given their strict protocol on the development of their actual pitching prospects (Reed, Melo, B̶u̶r̶d̶i̶)--which isn't a bad thing, if the team wasn't competitive. Perhaps the FO's willingness to promote Rosario portends good things later this summer.

  15. If Clayton wanted to bring suit, the fact that Stark and others went before him certainly bolsters his case.
  16. I've never seen this guy before (not a tennis fan, in particular). So the latter. No way someone behaves that way without a well-worn path of similar deeds.
  17. Right. Not the first time he's done something like this. No one should be so comfortable/familiar with repeated, and overtly refused, acts of "intimacy."
  18. Why can't it be the front office has a plan with the actual prospects and they are sticking to it in regards to the young bullpen arms? You don't promote a prospect simply because a spot opens up at a higher level; you promote a prospect because he's ready for that level or has more he can learn at that level. Until I see Terry Ryan rip off his Derek Falvey mask, I'll continue to give the new regime the benefit of the doubt when it comes to pitching development.
  19. What's the record for most times on base in one game? 4 hits and 3 BBs from Mauer is pretty impressive.
  20. The behavior of Flynn, Kushner, and even the President sure makes it seem like Russia has something on Trump and family. Whether its evidence of crimes, unpaid serious debts, or whatever skeletons and golden showers--there's a too much smoke present for it to be simple naivete; these guys were acting with a disregard that stinks of desperation. It remains a question whether the FBI can find evidence of any it, but at some point Russia may decide the better play is to sink the Trumps themselves by an information dump.
  21. I don't make much of the Twolves reported interest. I imagine the source is from Rose's camp seeking to drum up a market, and trying to capitalize on the Rubio for Rose rumor during the season.
  22. Trump won Montana by 20, Gianforte won by 6. Not a victory, but certainly inroads.
