  1. The game really has become ALL about hitting HR's. I wonder how Carew would have stacked up on this stat. After all, he was one of the greatest hitter of his time!
  2. IMO, fans are still bummed out with the way they cut payroll last year. They may have added a bit to payroll this year, but I've talked to several friends that still are angry, In addition, look at the core players, while yo can, because yo can pretty much bank on them missing considerable time with injuries. Bright spot is a team that looks to have real strong pitching, both starters and relievers. So as I see it the biggest problem looks to be the hitting/ scoring. With so many of the core guys missing time with injuries, who can step up when the game gets tough?
  3. I hate to see a promising arm get away, but at this time it looks like there may not be a good answer. If it's win now time he will probably be gone soon. If they are building for a run after this year, then they keep him.
  4. Yep, reminds me of some of the darker days of Twins baseball. I hope Ishbia eats sh#%t and barks at the moon!
  5. As I remember he was hurt at the beginning of the season last year and probably didn't get the work and conditioning he should have,
  6. The starting pitching scares me a little, but between Witt and long time Twin killer Perez, they still look formidable to me.
  7. Yhe concern I have with putting a player like Wallner leading off is douple play grounders. I guess time will tell, but I would think a slower footed player could really clog up the bases. We'll see how things work out.
  8. I'm thinking we'll see Miranda at 3rd and Lee at 2nd.
  9. Absolutely, retire his number. I rank him right next to Kaat as best pitchers the Twins have had!
  10. IMO Julian should go to St. Paul and play 1B every day and see if his glove plays there. I just don't see a place at 2nd for him with his defense, and all signs point to Lee there for now, with Keaschall knocking at the door.
  11. Move Lewis to 1st, Lee to 3rd. Keaschall did play on defense last year and will again this year. I anticipate him up by mid season, and 2nd is the most likely position for him.
  12. How are they going to develop a 1st baseman if they keep getting these types on 1 year deal? It sure would be nice to have a youngster to put there and let him grow. I've been advocating to move Lewis to 1st for a couple of years now. With Keaschall on the verge of his major league debut, they move Lee to 3rd and Keaschall to 2nd. Now that has the potential to be a really good defense, with guys that can hit!
  13. I don't think this is going to be a week division. It turned out to be pretty good last year, and the other teams have been fairly active this off season.
  14. I think Martin really needs some more innings in the OF. He grew up playing IF, so he's got to learn stuff like routes and where to throw in. He may not ever be a gold glover but with more experience I can see him better than avg. with his speed.
  15. Unless Julian is lights out for the rest of ST I would start him in St. Paul. Miranda is my choice. Yes, he had a rough 2nd half, but he was hurt, and don't forget about him getting hit in the face with a pitch. He hits righty's better than lefties, so I don't see a logical platoon with Julian to start.
  16. While ST stats are inflated due to facing so many non MLB pitchers, I'm sure the confidence has to get stronger. France was a good hitter a couple of years back, so I will give him the benefit of the doubt for the 1st month or so. Time will tell, but he could be a good pickup.
  17. Early in the game the wind was blowing hard out to RF. That park is like Yankee stadium in that it has a fairly short RF. Some of those bombs would have been gone anyway, but I think a couple of them were really wind aided,
  18. For so many years the Twins had impressive hitters but so few "quality" pitchers. They had to basically out score everyone. Now the roles seem to be reversed a bit. Now it seems they have really good pitchers with questionable run scoring ability.
  19. I think in some cases the risk is worth it. Getting him to 2nd makes a single a run most of the time. Obviously he needs to pick his spots, but I would think 20 -25 steals is in the realm of possibility.
  20. Defensively I would much rather have Lee at short if C4 goes down, even if he isn't hitting. I'm old school and believe defense up the middle is so important. Looks like at this time, 2nd may be a problem if they don't have Lee there. That leaves Castro or Martin. That makes defense at short even more important IMO.
  21. I think Buxton proved there's a big difference hitting in the DH spot vs playing the field in 2023.
