As critical as it is, it's completely historical numbers based. It's hard to hate on it much as it's not just a simple opinion. I thought the last paragraph in the article was actually spot on though.
This is very much a damned if you do, damned if you don't attitude. Doing well? They are lucky. Doing bad? Front office is trash. They are obviously doing something right. First 20 win month in 25 years and one of the best records in the league so far.
They spotted us 4 in the 1st and then we gave them 8 innings to catch up. May made the mistake to Donaldson and he took advantage. Hats off to Buerhle, he really composed him and cruised like he has against the Twins in so many games. Tomorrow is a new game, go gettum boys.
There were only 2.2 IP of relief in those 2 games as well and Duensing, who is struggling, got an inning out of it as well. It's not like there have been ample situations for Stauffer to pitch since he has been off the DL.
Dissapointing. But the true reality that between the two of them, they have tosses 1.1 IP combined in the last 9 games. Tonkin now because he has options and Stauffer when Arcia/Vargas is back up.......one can only hope.
I don't understand why this team would dangle Arcia/Vargas/Pinto/Santana/Rosario/Hicks right now. All are young, cheap and likely haven't hit their peak yet and provide great depth. On top of that unless you are packaging at least 3, you aren't getting anything back in return that is worthwhile.
They have options. With 13 arms up right now and Fien about ready to come back, they need to get rid of 2 pitchers. DFA'ing Stauffer would be one, and sending one of Tonkin/Pressly would be another. It just seems like the more realistic situation IMO.
Can Santana "rehab" from a suspension? Does he have any options left? You would imagine they would want to get him in some sort of game before throwing him in there are the Major League level.
You can probably count on him being in the lineup through the 2018 which he is signed through unless he really, really starts to struggle Outside of this season besides slugging, Mauer has consistantly been a better player than Plouffe. Plouffe did outslug Mauer by 52 points last season but Joe still had a 20 point edge in batting average and a 33 point edge in OBP. While not worth his 23M salary by any means is not a worthless player and IMO is no way holding Sano back.
I would want nothing to do with Eithier and the $35M he is owed over the next 2 years. 33 years old and is having his best season this year after having his worst last year? No thanks.
How is Hicks value at his highest? I would say if anything, trading him now would be getting pennies on the dollar for the type of potential talent he has. He is under team contract for 4 more years, he is only 25 and is a much better 3rd or 4th OF going forward than Robinson, Schafer and Hunter.
He has been hitting better, but mashing? 49 AB, 2 2B, 2 HR, 6 RBI, 2 BB, 12 K. Can we save the word mashing for when.....idk....someone is actually doing it?
