  1. Nolasco and Santana were signed in different years. It's not really viable to say you would rather have 1 $25M pitcher over the 2 $10-13M pitchers. Neither Nolasco or Santana were bad, medicore players before coming to the Twins either.
  2. 4 years ago the Twins were coming off a division title with much of the same roster and aiming at competing again in 2011. No one could predict the amount of games lost to injuries that year. If you are going to whine about the re-building process at least at max use 3 years. This team was not rebuilding in 2011, hell for the most part they weren't rebuilding until after the 2012 season.
  3. The extra year for Hughes was a little puzzling to me just because of the timing, though I don't mind the Dozier extension. I do think the Dozier extension points to the front office seeing him improving on his season from the previous 2 years.
  4. If a pitcher is healthy and pitching well, starting 32 games and going 209 innings is not overuse IMO. He started 29+ games in 3 of the previous 4 seasons. There are far more things to be concerned other than Hughes right now.
  5. Because they were both drafted last season, both of them have thrown less than 35 total innings and before the handful this year nothing was above A ball? They are both 22 and have big upsides, but what's the rush to get them up to the big leagues as soon as possible just because......they couldn't be any worse? You have to assume if they succeed in AA and AAA their path to the big leagues could come very soon. Would the team be that much better with a 22 year old with virtually no experience learning on the fly to face professional hitters in the bullpen rather than a guy like Boyer right now?
  6. 1. Still going on about extending Mauer? When did this cripple the team? Injuries 2 years later and a lack of depth in the high minor leagues from poor drafting crippled this team. 2. The franchise was at a point where there really were no other options than to rebuild. You can look at as the team choosing to be thrifty, but what else were they suppose to do? Sign huge free agent contracts every year? Did you really except a team with so many holes to throw huge money at players? They have built a farm system among the best in baseball now. If that was their plan, it seems to be doing quite well. 3. The Twins did nothing to "sell" Buxton and Sano as the future of the team. Being ranked in the Top 5 of every prospect report on the planet did this. I would like you to show me direct statements from the Twins about these two being "can't miss" and "immediate stars." 4. I won't sugarcoat it say that his team hasn't been crappy thus far. We are also less than 5% of the way into the season. If this roster looks the same in 6 weeks and they are losing at the same rate we can talk ending with the worst records. I think anyone believes that Terry Ryan is trying to fool fans and thinks for himself that the current 25 man roster is good team is joking with themselves. He knows whats out there. You can also blame pitching and defense all you want, the fact is everyone on the offense is off to a slow start. Joe is the only regular hitting above .241. Score 16 runs in 7 games, I don't care how good your pitching and/or defense is you aren't winning many games.
  7. Joe just got rung up on Ball 4.
  8. The same Rosario who hit .237/.277/.396 in 336 plate appearances in AA last season? What is performing well in ST? He hit .233/.227/.442 this Spring. Yes, he can field but if anything he has shown he is not ready. He should have to at least show SOME aspect that he is ready for the show before he is labeled "blocked." Before 2014 neither Meyer nor May were blocked, as neither of them had pitched above AA! Pelfrey and Nolasco were signed before either one of them had thrown a pitch above AA. They both still struggle with control, but I think we both can agree they both probably should be getting a shot right now. How is Burdi "blocked" by anyone? He was drafted less than a year ago and before last week he had never pitched above A ball. I think some people see a handful of college pitchers make it very quickly to the majors and assume every college reliever should be the same. Burdi is a great talent and will earn his spot, but he didn't even get an invite to ST, his spot is not being blocked. I just think there is this general consensus that the Twins are not aggressive when promoting guys which really isn't very true.
  9. Honestly, outside of Meyer who have they not been aggressive with? Hicks, Vargas, Arcia, Santana and even Pinto all got shots in the last 2-3 seasons at a very young age.
  10. Tommy "Lawnmower Man" Milone.
  11. In other news, 3 Indians pitchers no-hitting the Astros through 8, albeit 7 walks.
  12. 2 walks, 2 bloop hits and a grounder that finds a hole through the infield. Sweet.
  13. I agree 100% with this as well. In retrospect what we know now with players on that roster, they should have started selling off during 2011. They didn't, brought in Willingham to re-tool and on paper did not begin a rebuilding process until after 2012, which would put us starting year 3 of a rebuild process.
  14. I've seen the numbers. If I didn't watch the game, I would assume the Tigers just clobbered him. His control was terrible, but like I said there were very few balls that anyone actually squared up against him. The defense didn't help at all. We can go on and on and on how he sucks, TR is an idiot, or we can actually talk about what went on during the game. It was cold, on the road, against a good offense and nothing went his way. I've seen him pitch worse.
  15. 5 years ago the Twins were starting their road on a division winning, 94 wins season. 4 years ago the Twins brought back a little changed team at defending that division title. The absolute earliest a 5 year rebuild plan could have started was 3.5 years ago during that injury riddling horrid thing we called 2011.
  16. It was one twitter response aimed at a fan (a female fan) after the season had ended with him on the DL after his worst season as a pro while the Dodgers were headed the playoffs. I wouldn't exactly call it openly speaking about being back in LA and I think it was taken a little too serious. Regardless.....let's hope he rebounds in his next start.
  17. Actually 15 to 0 but who's counting
  18. Nolasco wasn't hit that hard today, but the 4 walks were inexcusable. The 3 runs in the 3rd were set up by a lead-off walk and the runs scored on a bloop single to center and a 1-handed Cabrera double down the line on a very good pitch. The 3 runs in the 4th were set up by a lead-off walk and a nubbed infield hit, a Gose should been single that Torii turned into a triple and then Nolasco was pulled. The 6th run came on the should have been single by Kinsler turned into triple by Schaefer. The hardest hit ball off him all day was probably the fly by Kinsler in the 1st that Torii caught at the track. While I don't want to insinuate he pitched well, because he didn't, but he wasn't knocked around the yard. Something positive to take I guess.
  19. Lol. 2 games in. 2 flippin' games. Amazing.
  20. From what I see, West has 2 country music albums out. As far as a dinner reservation is concerned, all the people I know, including those skinny people generally eat dinner. Is it so far fetched to think he might be playing a concert or eating a meal?
  21. Torii is 39 and has been a big leaguer for almost 20 years. I think he knew what he was getting signing with a team who had lost 90+ their last 4 seasons. I'm not worried about stuggling with losing. I don't mind what Torii said after the game. Anytime you call out an umpire you will get fined, no problem with him getting fined, and he knew that when he made comments. Anyone looking further into his comments for personal attacks, all I can say is really?
  22. Is this type of post going to be the norm this season? I really hope not.
  23. If he could limit those 5 or less innings with 5+ run outings to say....3 or 4 instead of 8 like he did last year, that alone would pay dividends.
  24. Ok, maybe I worded that wrong, but if minor league numbers before his injury and the increasing K rates between 13 and 14, I wouldn't be surprised for him to move closer to the 6.5 K/9 range, or maybe it's just blind optimism. Either way, minus 50 IP last season was essentially his rookie year. I think we have a lot to look forward to.
