  1. I do. I just don't think Dozier's rookie campaign is going to mean much to his long-term abilities at any position. Granted he wasn't very good in 2012. But he was excellent in 2013 (or at least the second half), he looked so much more relaxed, he didn't take his at bats into the field, and knew that he belonged. That will work wonders for you, whether you're at 2B or SS. In any case, I think it might happen, not necessarily because of Rosario being better than Dozier but because Florimon's bat might open up a spot at short.
  2. What about Worley? No faith he's got anything left?
  3. Yep. And I also hope you're right about Aaron Hicks.
  4. I'll admit to not following Pinto's career very well so far, so I have some more basic questions. It looks like his hitting game is a high-average, high-OBP kind of thing, which is very encouraging as most catchers don't do those things very well. Throwing out his SSS appearance in the majors, what is your read on whether the power stays with him? Is he a legitimate home run threat too? Can he keep his ~.300 batting average with some seasoning in the major leagues? Is he actually a threat to reach ~.400 OBP in the majors? I guess what I'm asking is how you'd project him as a big league guy. Most reports I've seen don't really peg him as a star, just a solid starter. On the other hand, if he can get his stats to where they were in the upper minor leagues while wearing a Twins uniform, I think you have one of the top hitting catchers in the league. There are only 3 or 4 catchers in the whole league who can OPS .800. Is this a real possibility somewhere down the line?
  5. Yes we did boo. I've never heard the dome boo so much, and I've been to Vikings games.
  6. I was at both of these games, and I agree wholeheartedly. Actually, game 163 was probably my favorite in-person sports moment of my life. I did see my alma mater win a national championship football game, but it was a blowout. Game 163 was much more of a nailbiter, and much more satisfying.
  7. You're crazy! (What does it say about me that I scrolled down in the middle of reading this to look at your footnote?) Also, I'm all for trying Dozier at SS again, but I'm not sure the right way to do that is by moving Florimon to 2B. I think Florimon's bat might force him out of the lineup anyway, at which point you slide Dozier to SS and put a utility guy over at 2B. If Florimon is serviceable this year, then I don't think you move him until Rosario is up. At that point, I think it's more likely that Dozier and Rosario is the better pair, so you relegate Florimon then and slide Dozier one spot to the right. It'd be a nice problem to have.
  8. Rebuttals: He's injured. He's tired after his first full season. Small sample size. Moving up a level (even from A+ to AFL) takes a little bit of adaptation. I think that whether they decide A+ or AA is the way to go with him, it won't be more than half a season before he's moved up again, and he probably gets a September call up either way if he plays in 2014 like he did this year.
  9. This more or less describes why, despite my post count, I'm basically a lurker these days too. Sometimes it's difficult to contain my frustration with the same old crap over and over again. Though I have found the ignore function to be a ridiculously useful tool. There's still a lot of good content here, and it helps not to have sort through the usual suspects. I also tend to spend more time over on the minor league side of things. It's nicer there.
  10. Re: Jerry Kill. Tim Brewster left the cupboard bare, and it often takes more than three years to build up a program. But that's what Kill does - he builds programs, and he does more with less. If this were the NFL and the guys on the roster were finished products, then I would care very much whether he's on the sideline for the big game. But this is college where X's and O's count for very little overall (see Charlie Weis's decided schematic advantage), and the things that really matter are recruiting and development. Minnesota is not going to get the five-star players that are going to Michigan and Notre Dame and USC. But if they can turn the two- and three-star guys into players, they can win. That's what Kill does. Of course I'd like to see him on the sideline every game, but a college coach does so much more, and it isn't the time to throw in the towel on him yet.
  11. First off, I'm going to ignore the posters who are treating this as another excuse to talk about how the Twins don't care about winning. I disagree with that entire premise. Second, and more on topic, I generally agree with many of the names you proposed: Very good start. I'd add in that I don't think anybody would be picking up Colabello. I'd hesitate to drop Parmelee at this point, and I think I'd rather have him than Colabello. We wouldn't really miss Mastroianni much I don't think. I'd like to see Hendriks moved into a bullpen spot if he can't cut it in the rotation or if he is displaced by better free agent starting pitchers. I think he and Swarzak could do the same thing, and they both seemed to follow the same pattern when starting - a few scoreless innings and then a complete blow-up. And Hendriks probably has more upside at this point. Then again, you could feasibly replace other bullpen arms with Hendriks too. As for whom to add, I'm just not familiar enough with which players have to be added to be protected. I know there are some talented guys on that list though, and they should have priority over guys like Colabello who may be role-players in the majors but won't be a part of the future.
  12. Come on guys. Everyone knows the only team Pravda writes about is the Reds.
  13. East Bay hardcore.
  14. True and true. On the other hand, how many of those starts are due to his quick return from Tommy John and how many are him not being very good? I agree with many posters here that we should have had an option year tacked onto the back of his contract, but what's done is done. If he can be reasonably good next year, we should at least consider him.
  15. Because he might not make it? Thome hit 600 in what? Early August? I think everyone knew that barring injury, he was getting there that year.
  16. I wouldn't gloat so much after one bad start if I were you. Hey, by the way, how's Joe Benson doing these days?
  17. I read this story too, and what I got out of it was that irritability in and of itself is a symptom of concussions: In other words, people recovering from brain injury often don't act like themselves, which manifests in irritability (alluded to in the article), which is very out of character for Joe Mauer (also alluded to in the article), and team brass is picking up on these signals as a sign that he isn't ready to come back (also alluded to in the article). It has nothing to do with Gardenhire, it honestly has very little to do with non-brain-injured Joe Mauer, but it has everything to do with concussion symptoms playing havoc with the concussion victim's mood.
  18. I was under the impression that the posting fee bidding for Darvish was ridiculously one-sided. As in, the Rangers paid $52 million, and the next highest bidder bid something like $15 million. I guess that kind of gross overpay is the price of certainty, but the only other posting fee that's ever even been in that neighborhood was Daisuke Matsuzaka. In other words, if there isn't one team out there ready and willing to break the bank to guarantee Tanaka's rights, is there any reason to think that this posting fee would be even close to Darvish? Even half?
  19. I think Mauer is the clear choice here, despite his quieter style. I wonder if you expanded it to include some of the up and comers who would emerge? It seems like Miguel Sano wouldn't be shy about speaking his mind, for example.
  20. And this is exactly what we said would happen. Frankly, I doubt he gets it together enough to stick on a major league roster.
  21. I make it a point to block idiots. You're blocked. Have a ****ty day.
  22. Ooooooh. I'm not touching that one. Don't want to get banned.
  23. If you punch yourself in the face enough, it starts to make sense.
  24. Can I just interrupt the same exact discussion we've been banging our heads against on this site for two years and actually mention something about Justin Morneau? It seems as though his post-ASB hot streak is continuing. In just a few games with the Pirates, his triple slash is .462/.588/.538 and OPS 1.127. For a team like the Pirates that don't have a wide lead in the playoff race, this version of Morneau is exactly what they needed. Good for him.
